For my children to be hurt by a bully or to be mislead and taken by a stranger was my biggest fear. I found the structure my family needed in Legends Martial Arts. Let me tell you how Legends Martials Arts program continues to work for my family after a year. I was at a park with all three children, but I was only watching my 4 year old. My 7 year old son was on a play structure and was approached by two boys. One of the boys punched my son immediately. My son was caught off guard but he didn't forget what he had learned at Legends. The boy tried to hit my son again but this time my son had his hands up to protect himself. He also asked the boy why he punched him. At Legends Martial Arts students are taught to not be the first one to take a swing, but to figure out where the anger is coming from. They are instructed to keep their hands up in protection while they ask why there is a problem. So that's what my son did and the kid didn't have an answer. So my son continued to talk because Mr. Burleson at Legends Martial Arts instructed him the best way to win a fight is to not fight at all. The boy got bored and realized my son was not weak. The boy who was with "The Bully" ditched his bully friend and started to play with my son. In my heart he won his first fight. At seven years old he was prepared to encounter his first bully thanks to Legends Martial Arts. My daughter struggles standing up for herself and speaking in front of others. At Legends not only do the students learn how to defend themselves but are required to perform public speaking at their belt tests to advance. They practice in class together. On belt test day they must do it on their own. One belt test it was her turn to speak and she froze. In a belt test there is a minimum of fifty people in the room and she was nervous. She looked at Mr. Burleson to save her. He looked into her eyes and told her to start with her name. It took a minute but it was all she needed to conquer her nerves. My 4 year old started Legends at 3 years of age. His first month at Legends he spent in my lap watching from the side lines. I asked if I should wait until he was older. I was told to keep coming. It wasn't about the money they would lose, I truly believe it was about not giving up on any child. So I continued to bring him. Now he is four and still has difficult days on occasion. When my 4 year old is having a bad day Mrs. Walters picks him up and kindly encourages him to continue. It may take ten minutes of class time but she does not give up until he is actively participating. I appreciate her efforts every time. While the other instructors are working with the class , Mr. Klosterman moves in close to instruct the parents on how to effectively work with our kids at home. Focusing on injury prevention he guides the parents by physically showing us the correct way to execute each move. I only have positive words to write about the staff and instruction my three children recieve at Legends Martial Arts. Every time we go we are welcomed as family. If I have questions they are answered immediately. This program works if you are committed to bringing your child to practice and encourage them not to give up when it gets hard. If you want a safe environment filled with love, respect, discipline, laughing, and learning for your children, then Legends Martial Arts is the place . You can sit next to me. I'll be there surrounded by genuine people dedicated to keeping our youth safe and inspiring their little minds while they do it.

The kids learn discipline and karate skills in a fun environment. One of the things that I really like is their method for advancement. Since it takes a while to move up belts, the kids can earn stripes in between belts in order to keep them motivated. The only "negatives" would be that some classes are taught by younger black belt students and they sometimes have trouble keeping the littles in line. But the adult instructor is usually nearby to assist when needed. Definitely give them a try if you're looking for a safe (and indoor) way to keep your kiddos active.
