My car had been overheating this past weekend and with a set business trip down to San Diego, I had to quickly find a shop! I decided to bring it to the nearest and highest rated place in my area, so when I showed up to Chalard's, I literally thought I could not be at the same location that so many of our fellow yelpers had been so optimistic and praiseworthy about. The shop seemed disorganized, unkempt, and shady. I met Chalard, left my car, and prayed that I would not come back to a $5000 bill, both in regards to my wariness of the shop as well as my actual engine issues. less than two hours later, I get a call from Chalard telling me that the problems were extremely minor and told me that everything had been fixed. Once I arrived, Chalard pointed out to me the replacements he made and the condition of my car. When I asked him how my car was doing overall, if he had suspected anything else that could be improved or fixed, he replied with, "it runs very well, I would never let anyone leave here if their car was not in the right condition to drive. Chalard won't meet greet you with a smile and ask you how your family is, he won't show up to work in a suit, and most certainly: he won't lie to you. He is a man of few words but he is an honest and extremely direct man, a characteristic that is extremely rare to find these days, ESPECIALLY in the auto mechanic industry. Yay Chalard's! I dropped my baby for what I thought was a starter problem and I was quickly diagnosed with a low charged battery!!! So they charged me up, and I got an oil change (I had gone past my regular scheduled maintenance) and brake rotor change and scrubbing too, which I had also needed really bad!!! My AC starting going, I took it to a place called Firestone Auto Repair, in San Fernando, They diagnosed it and said my condenser, compressor and valves all had to be replaced, to a tune of $1,800.00 !!!!! (why did I take it to Firestone they're 1 block from my work) Took it to Chalard, I was expecting a lesser amount BUT to tell me that it was just a leaky valve!!! I spent less than 100 bucks!! Came here to fix my girlfriends brakes which were pretty much shot. Although he didn't take walk-ins, he was kind enough to fit us in as we did not live in the area, despite having a full schedule. I can't say enough about the team at Future Auto. I drive a 2012 Mercedes CLS that I have traditionally taken to the dealer for regular maintenance and repairs. Last year the check engine light came on and Mercedes quoted me several thousand dollars to replace the turbo. I took it to Future Auto and they did the repair for less than half of the dealers price and spent time to insure they addressed the cause of the turbo failure, not just the result. This year when the check engine light came on again I took it straight to Future Auto. They diagnosed the issue, ordered the part and repaired the car quickly, again at a very reasonable price. I will be taking my car, as well as my husband's car,to them for all our maintenance needs moving forward. read more

Aps sensor behind my wheel was broken off which threw multiple lights on the dash but the guys at future auto service quickly diagnosed the issue and got the part on order and it was done by the next morning. Also great price on oil changes/regular maintenance vs a dealership. If your car doesn't still have free service from its dealership save yourself the hassle and go to future. Friendly, quick and helpful service. Carlos scheduled me in right away. They addressed the issues with my Explorer quickly on a Saturday. Took the time to explain the problems with my warning lights in depth. He demonstrated a fix how to prevent one issue giving me the choice if I wanted to spend the money now for the repair. One downside was they were not able to address the problem with the faulty tire sensor since they don't have the machine required (less 1 star) but they checked the tires and gave me a recommendation where I could take it. Very helpful giving me estimated costs so I know what to expect with them or elsewhere. With diagnosis and checks the cost was very reasonable! read more

This isn't the same shop that has all of these reviews. It used to be Chalard's auto repair run by a nice smart honest man. He sold the business and now there is new management. They are not Chalard's price, quality and honesty. Any reviews before April 2016 are for a completely different shop. Good luck finding a good mechanic. After going to a well-known chain auto repair shop and being given an astronomical repair estimate, I was referred to Chalard's. I decided some of the positive reviews on Yelp had to be true, so I took a chance and dropped my car off for repair. I was amazed when the phone rang 3 hours later and the repair work was finished. Chalard replaced my 2 front axles for less than he quoted me, adjusted my clutch for free and told me I didn't need new brakes yet. That well-known chair repair shop told me I needed to replace 2 sets of brake pads, something I doubted at the time and Chalard proved was unnecessary. This man is as honest as they come and I trust him with all the repair work on my car. By being honest and fair, he all but assures the public will be knocking on his door and he will always be busy. It's hard to find honest people in the auto repair industry. When you do, you want to tell everyone you know. My brother will be taking his SUV in for work next week. I am so disappointed with the new ownership. I miss Chalard. Took my car in on Friday before I went out of town for the weekend. They called me to let me the cost of repairs and I approved it. Come to find out my car was still not ready when I got back to town on Tuesday. Had to re-approve repairs (miscommunication?) and waited all day for them to finish before I could pick up. Almost $300 later my check engine light came on the very next day, car was still running poorly, sounds like it's going to break down any minute and now has the most horrible exhaust smell/smoke that I never experienced before having these guys work on my Durango. If anything they've made the problems worse! I never even called to complain because I would never let them touch my car again. Sorry guys, but you really dropped the ball with my car :/ read more

I have so much to say about the service of which I don't regret going back again and again coz I have an old Honda Civic and they make it run like a new one. So here I go, Chalards auto repair is ok. Cheap yes, fix right the first time "sometimes". This is a good place to go if you are broke. The mechanics here are more like "Shady tree mechanics" replace parts until it works. I use to take all my cars to him but its really hard when you have to take it back 2-3 times to get it right. read more

My initial encounter with the new ownership was sketchy to say the least. We noticed the place had been cleaned up spotless and the "Chalard's" signage was removed. I swing back around and the new guy who I am assuming was the new owner told me that Chalard was on vacation and "he might be back next week, maybe the week after; but he still works here." Long story short, I was finally able to pry the truth out of him that Chalard had sold the business. He said we can still bring our cars there and that he would take care of us. Maybe it's an honest repair shop, but all I know is he tried to mislead me from the start. The new business will be called "Future Auto Service." He initially said "Future Auto Sales", but took it back. As I was driving a way, I noticed a car on the lot with a dealer ad license plate which said Future Auto. Chalard's is excellent. I recently moved to the LA area all the way from New York and brought my car with me. Within a month of being here, my fuel pump failed and I had to have AAA come save me. They brought me to Rocky's Commercial Auto, because it was AAA approved, who fixed it for a pretty penny. They also informed me that I needed my front wheel bearings replaced and they could do so for just $550. I couldn't afford that so I went online and found Chalard's. I went there based on only the reviews because I'm new and don't know a lot of people in the area anyway. He agreed my problem was the wheel bearings and said to come back in two days so he could order the part. Sure enough, I dropped it off this morning and within two hours he called and said my car was ready. The bill came to $128. I was so surprised! He's truly an honest and fair man, which is rare out in LA & in the auto industry. My car runs like new and I couldn't be happier. I won't go anywhere else for as long as I'm in LA. read more

Chalard to the rescue! I have been having some transmission problems recently... I did not know that Chalard even worked on those kinds of issues... but thankfully, he does. I got 3 different quotes to get a new transmission. 3000 from the dealer. 2000 for a rebuilt one at a local transmission shop. 1750 at a different transmission shop. My car is 11 years old and is in otherwise great shape... but the blue book value is only around 3500... so I was thinking about possibly getting a whole new car. As a hail mary, I brought it to Chalard to take a look at. He is not a man of many words, but I agreed to leave it with him for a day. The following day he called me and said that he was looking for a used transmission to put in. The next day he called me to tell me that it was done. Total price tag $750!!! I picked up my car the next day and drove away. I noticed a few problems with that transmission (which came with a 90 day warranty from the junk yard) so I brought the car back in to him. He had to replace that transmission with a different one... and after testing it himself, he realized that THAT transmission also was no good. So, he put a third in. I picked up my car a week ago and it feels like I am driving a brand new car. And what did Chalard charge me for all of the extra work that him and his employees put into my 3 transmission car? Nothing. I only paid the 750 that he charged me to originally to fix my car. He is a wonderful man with a kind heart. It truly makes him happy to see others happy. Thanks Chalard... for everything.
