Absolutely the best experience that i've had with an mechanic shop. I called ahead of time and was assured I can tow my van and drop it off same day even through this was Christmas week. They are a licensed and approved RepairPal service center for Carmax and work with the MaxCare warranty. It was a great experience dropping off my van, I shared all my issues and concerns and was assured they'd all be addressed. I was called the next day with the updates on the van and they got right to fixing everything. In 2 business days my van was diagnosed, serviced, and ready for pick up. Upon pick up the wonderful receptionist remembered my name and had me out the door in a few minutes. Funny enough I found Garage 88 while trying to make an appointment with CarMax and it's happened to be one of their recommended places, and it was close to my house so I made appointment through their website. It's always intimidating as a girl to take your car somewhere new but Garage 88 is great at making it a breeze. The girl working at the counter is super pleasant and welcoming. Their online system is awesome. Once your car is inspected everything is sent through a link where you can see pictures/recommendations with pictures as proof & paying can be done through their online site or in person. I was told my water pump, hoses, auxiliary pump and even that my bushings were wearing out, got quoted 2900.00 to do all the repairs, of course I know the type of car I have the repairs aren't cheap. Well, i decided to not to have it done their and wanted a second look somewhere else, because I had just gotten the car. Well Thank god I did turns out all it was a gasket leak from the Oil cooler. I get that sometimes you make mistakes but to take advantage of someone who doesn't repairs and thinking your gonna pull one over one someone shame on you guys. I couldn't just imagine had I paid all that money to have them fix my water pump and all it was a gasket that cost $20.00 .. Please do better as a company read more

I had my car serviced recently and brought it in to this shop. They pointed out that a lot of the components were in good condition and only charged me for an oil change and an air filter. That is a sign that they were honest and did not try to upsell me. They were also savvy in diagnosing that my washer fluid light coming on was not due to the washer fluid being low but actually the sensor was broken so I am bringing my car back soon to get that serviced. Highly recommend Garage 88, for so many reasons. The service I've experienced is always excellent. I found them under the Carmax site after getting an oil change at another shop where I felt taken advantage of. Nova is very clear when explaining any issue, has never once talked down to me and answers all my questions with patience and clarity. This is the biggest reason I keep coming back. But they were also understanding when the film industry was on strike and I brought it in saying I hadn't worked in months so I was worried about unforeseen repair costs. They walked me through what was immediate concern and what I should be aware of for next visit. I was recommended this BS by another mechanic that does not work on Fiats. I requested they perform a pre-purchase inspection on a 2015 Fiat 500c, and they were able to fit me in THE SAME DAY. I was able to get the results of the inspection quickly, and it was very thorough. It gave a lot to consider in the purchase of the car, and they also provided quotes for the repairs required. Yesterday while grocery shopping, my 2005 Toyota Corolla wouldn't start anymore and the alarm just kept going off, so I had to have it towed to my home. After talking to my Bay Area mechanic, I left the car overnight with the battery disconnected. Since I live across the street from a Toyota dealership, I walked there in the AM. To start, they wanted to charge me $180/hr for diagnosis even though I kinda already knew what was wrong. Anyways, they gotta do their job. That price however was too much. I called Garage 88, which I have previously used for oil changes and maintenance check ups, at 8:30am. Tim answered the phone, I explained what happened, and he quoted me for $156 diagnostic which if I decided to have it repaired at the shop would go towards that. Great deal! So I had my car towed over and even though they were super busy (Tim said they'd probably wouldn't get to my car until the end of the day) within a few hours they called me back to let me know that my car was ready to go. Like what?! Turned out that the security system reset itself and nothing was wrong. Aftermarket alarms do get finicky sometimes. Tim also explained that it locked like someone recently must've tried to break in to the driver's side as there were metal shavings inside the door lock. Scary! He told me how much it would cost to fix it, but also said it is not necessary if I always use my key fob. Very fair! But now the highlight: Tim charged me ZERO dollars! I'm happy to have found a body shop I'll continue to give my business because what else can you expect than fast, reliable service from kind people who do an amazing job! Glad I made their day with some good Cuban bakery goods, Gatorade, and well deserved after work Modelos for the entire crew. :) read more

I thought there was a fault with the temperature sensor but it turned out to be a non-issue. He could have charged me for an unneeded replacement but he didn't. This garage is PHENOMENAL!!! I feel so fortunate. Some back story: My passenger-side mirror got slammed by a garbage receptacle on Coldwater. And I LOVE my car. But when I parked and called my longtime mechanic...she had closed...forever! Incredibly I had saved an enthusiastic recommendation for Garage-88 from a neighbor. They are a gem! Even though it was "just" a mirror they were kind, patient. It was apparent immediately that as my neighbor had promised, their prices were CORRECT. (My being female and in an emergency did not ever enter their equation!) I first spoke with Tim, but then exclusively with NOVA who was SO RESOURCEFUL in getting the (ANCIENT-in-car-years) part and getting it painted. (G&A AUTO! I'm just sayin'! Body shop. And Art there is terrific. Great quote!) So I am back on the road! My car is perfect. I asked Nova to replace my windshield wipers and I now have something that looks intimidatingly industrial and verrrrrrrry effective! I gave this shop a great review on their services a few months ago, but since would not do the same. They replaced my catalytic converter. When I had asked them if the RPMs needed to be checked because they were running high quite often when starting up the car, I was told "no issue", car was in street-worthy condition, thanked them and left. A few months later my car went into "unintended acceleration" which totaled the vehicle. Cause? The throttle was sticking causing problematic (too high) RPMs and too much acceleration. I take away my compliment for "delivers what it promises". The accident cost me the loss of my insurance coverage. read more

I bought a lift kit for my Jeep and was trying to decide if I wanted to install it myself or take it to a shop to have it done. I had originally gone to a local used Jeep dealership that also does customization. The guy there quoted me a number that was ridiculous. I am assuming he didn't know that I know what the cost should be. I reached out to Garage 88 after and they installed everything for less than half of the price the other place quoted.
