After visiting the store to look at futons I priced a mattress and frame. I was quoted a sale price that was going on that weekend. After shopping around I realized the style of frame I liked was very competitively priced at the store without having to wait or pay for shipping. Unfortunately I was unable to return to the store until after the sale had ended. When I did return I was informed the sale had ended, however since I had returned in such a short period of time I was offered an alternative price which I greatly appreciated given the circumstances. My wife & I purchased a futon from Futon Favorite in 2012 because it was affordable and we were able to find a sturdy and attractive futon. Two cross country moves later not only is our futon as good looking and sturdy as when we purchased it but also, when I called the shop up because we had lost the hardware, not only did the owner remember who we were and what we had ordered but he was able to walk us through in great detail how to put it back together. Big selection of different frames and mattresses. Went in thinking I was going to maybe get a futon and mattress since I downsized to a studio, but had mixed feelings about that because I have a queen sized memory foam mattress I love (been using this mattress on the floor since I moved). He ended up having platform frames for much cheaper than anywhere else I had looked that were solid wood and nice quality. Bought the platform frame, took about an hour to assemble and it is a solid high quality frame. It was time. The foam mattress was at its end. What to do? Something affordable. Something not foam (no matter how fancy). Futons came to mind. Google provided various providers including amazon, multilocation bed stores, etc. The pictures look good, the reviews were not. The Futon Favorite was the next link on the search page. Wow! This is what I was looking for. Tom Flower made the futons himself. He looked like an honest happy chap and it would give me an opportunity to support a local mom and pop business. It was well worth the hour drive from East Mesa to Phoenix. His store is lovely, has all the various styles to try out. It was a busy day at the store, giving us time to try out different blends of cotton and foam fill, look at the variety of folding and flat frames and the variety of covers, pillows, etc . I decided on all cotton batting and a simple platform. This fit my budget perfectly. We were there on a Thursday and delivery was set for the following Monday. Wayne, the delivery and set up fellow was right on time and put the frame together in about 45 minutes and Voila! I had a new bed. The futon is very comfortable, fits in the space perfectly. Finally a good nights sleep! I am really pleased and delighted with my interaction with Tom and highly recommend his store, The Futon Favorite. OK, I can not speak for the people who had a bad experience but the store I walked into and the Tom I talked to and his staff were all really super nice. My wife and I wanted to replace a full size bed with a queen size futon in one of our guest bed rooms because we were converting the room to a music studio/guest room and a futon would give us more space. It is really important to us that our guest are comfortable and have a nice place to sleep when they spend the night. I did a lot of research about Futon mattresses and found Futon Favorite online so my wife and I stopped by to look around. Tom was very laid back, not a pressure sales type of guy and let us look around but gave us our space. He just told us to let him know if we had any questions. We sat on some of the different Futon's and were amazed at how much better quality the mattresses were than what we were used to seeing with Futons. The frames were all solid wood and he has a mixture of ones that are functional all the way to artistic. We settled on a more functional frame where the arms were most comfortable when you sat on it when it was set up as a couch. Then the biggest part for us was picking the mattress. We were just kind of laying on them while they were set up as couches and Tom immediately insisted that he set up a few as beds and that we actually lay down on them to see how comfortable the mattresses were. This was great advice and made a huge difference in how the mattresses felt. Tom really knows his futons and easily answered all our questions and explained things really well. Tom even talked me out of spending more money on a more expensive futon cover because he said he thought that particular company just priced things to high. The cover we bought was cheaper and just as good of quality. We ended up picking a queen size single coil mattress futon and the mattress is more comfortable than the full size mattress/bed we took out of the guest room. The frame is rock solid and the mattress is top notch. I will mention this about the pieces and parts of the frame. We were almost done assembling the frame and it appeared some pieces were missing but a quick search of the boxes the frame came in and I discovered the missing parts taped to the styrofoam. I had just missed seeing them. They pack everything up in those boxes pretty tightly, I am sure to keep the shipping cost down since futon frames are so bulky. I recommend Tom and Futon Favorite to my friends and they all love the futon. read more

I am also very confused by the 1 star reviews! I had a wonderful experience shopping here and thought Tom could not have been more helpful..... First of all, we walked in 10 minutes before he was closing and he had no other customers so he could have easily been annoyed, but not only was he welcoming, he even turned on the music for us! (he was obviously not expecting any more customers and had already been closing up shop) secondly, we walked in with our 2 young children who were being especially obnoxious that day and he still made us feel comfortable (which is not always the case with sales-people and obnoxious children). He made sure that we purchased the futon that was right for us and he could not have been more helpful and pleasant. He was sweet to the kids and seemed genuinely interested in our lives, not just interested in selling a futon. He even offered what I would consider a generous discount on the frame that I picked out after I inquired about the price on the price tag. I have only shopped at Futon Favorite one other time, about 9 years ago I bought a cover there for a friend and I enjoyed the experience (and great selection of covers!) then, as I did today. I am really looking forward to my new futon, my inner teenager is extremely pleased right now- I've wanted another futon since I had to part with my first one when I moved out of my childhood bedroom 10 years ago. I can't wait to sit on my new futon and settle in for a 'Friends' marathon.......... hello, 90s heaven. oh, and I will definitely be returning to buy a futon (just the mattress) in a few weeks when we get our old bed-frame out of storage. This place was AWESOME and Tom is a rockstar! We needed to get a new futon for our den and had looked at all of the big box stores when my wife found this killer little Mom and Pop shop. I'm so stoked she did because I have yet to sit or lay on a futon so comfortable. The wood frame was, wait get this....real wood, not manufactured crap like IKEA or one of those other big box monsters. We purchased and drove off with everything this afternoon and had everything put together in about 15 minutes. Tom was a great help and had a great grasp of what customer service is all about. As I come from a small beach community, shopping and supporting local business is huge to me and I'm very happy that we found The Futon Favorite. We have 3 frames from Futon Favorites. A California King in the master bedroom, a Queen in another room, and a cot sized futon that we have in front of our living room window for our 4 dogs to sit on. I also have a nice bench type drawer set that I purchased there. Everything was extremely reasonably priced and are as sturdy as the day we bought them (we've had them a few years and we are not thin people). They were delivered and assembled by Tom's delivery crew and we had no issues with the delivery. I didn't like the original cushion on my cot sized futon and I was able to trade it for one I did like (I returned it still in packaging and unused). I recommend taking the time to actually go in the shop to see what he has. read more

It is very easy to assemble and disassemble--have assembled and disassembled three times now and it is very easy, even for one person. Although the saleperson was great, we saw a futon frame online under "specials", at a sale price and when we wanted to order it we were told it was scratch and dent only. BUT it did NOT say that on the website. They wanted to charge over $100 more than the website stated. This is the old "bait and switch". I needed a futon cover for my queen-size futon. I was not happy with the Internet options and service available, so I resorted to an onsite visit. (I live remotely, about 90 miles from Phoenix.) My husband and I traveled almost one hundred miles to this place of course we found it online, I looked at so many different futon places on line but was not satisfied. I was very impressed with the pictures and the prices this place had to offer. When we called and spoke to Tom asking many questions about different futons that I had to write on paper so I could remember just to ask most details on each futon, well that really was just asking too much. I knew we just had to go there and look at the futons ourself because our list was "oh" maybe four to five different choices on our list. We were very impressed with the owner Tom, he was very nice to us had all the answers to our questions, then we told him we would be back that we had other places to go to and that should give us time to think of just what we really want. It was hard to decide knowing that he sold out on the matress size that we needed. People were coming and going buying futons left and right. We did not have time to wait two days for a new matress because we live one hundred miles up the mountains. We go down the flatlands making our rounds buying all we needed. And we wanted very much to go home with a futon from this place, but were very sad that he sold out on the matress size we needed with no time to wait. So we left, then we called him from a distance telling him were are coming back to buy the frame we fell in LOVE with. And when we arrived there he came out from the back and my husband said joking but serious have you been taking laps? He answered YES I AM MAKING YOU BOTH YOUR NEW MATRESS FOR YOUR FUTON. Our eyes and mouth just opened wide. Our hearts were so happy I just wanted to cry with happy tears. Our heart is still very happy we still are looking for a cover with the holidays we ran out of time. With the reviews negative about this place I guess you just can't please everyone.
