NO SERVICE!!! one waiter to serve the entire restaurant. Sundays is usually busy for them and they still refused to have another waiter working so they have just one waiter working. We waited and waited for our order to be taken. We noticed a man that had been waiting for longer than us had to basically go chase the waiter to order. We decided to leave, we told the cashier lady that we were leaving as it was ridiculous to have to wait so long for because they had no other staff she just she "yes". She understood what was going on but was pretending like she didn't know. They don't know customer service you're just another order number to them, no pride in quality or service. The venue is better than average; the food is variable; and the service has become progressively worse to the point of being intolerable. Sunday night must be a high volume take-out night. Life is like a box of Chinese food take-out...you always know what you're gonna get. Now there's been plenty of 3* "Chinese" places that I've neglected to review (FYI: The "Chinese" designation henceforth in this article really means "Chinese American" which to me means "YUM."). But I'm more than willing to give the 4* exception for Fu's Garden. If you take a gander at my lists, you'll notice I have a downtown dining one, topped off by my favorite "Chinese" restaurant (http://www.yelp.com/list/downtown-dining-houston). Seeing as how I'm client-based and now never there, it's high time I start one for the Galleria area (where I'm currently taking up residence during normal working hours). While Fu's Garden won't shoot to the top of my list, it'll find its way on there, by nook or by crook. Now by virtue of me being "Chinese" (half-Taiwanese, half-Singaporean, 100% American, natch), I never find myself actively seeking out these types of places. However, it happens to be a favorite of my coworkers. I can see why: it's cheap (lunch specials range from $6-$8), it's fast, and it's pretty good. Their lunch specials, which are offered 7 days a week, feature a pretty solid variety of your traditional "Chinese" fare. Yes, you can get your favorite General here. Every dish I've tried is pretty good, the latest being the Sesame chicken. Each dish also comes with a choice of soup (their hot and sour is particularly delicious), fried rice (possibly bland but not the worst I've had), and a veggie egg roll (meh). The parking situation kind of stinks, but once you get in, the service is extra speedy. Drink order, food order, soup comes out, food comes out, check comes out, bill is settled. There's almost no wait time involved. They're also fan-friendly about splitting checks. Add in the solid food and decent prices, and this is one "Chinese" place I keep coming back to. Just had the worst excuse for Asian food ever. Part of our pickup order was Sweet & Sour chicken I was told the sweet & sour was fried chicken tenders with the sauce on the side. And, that's exactly what it was - fried tenders without one bit of seasoning; some kind of red runny sauce that really wasn't sweet and there was nothing sour! When I've ordered this dish at other restaurants, it has had pineapple chunks, onions, bell peppers, and a splash of vinegar or lemon for the sour. I poured the red runny sauce out and used ranch dressing to get a bit of flavor. Chick-Fila or McDonald's would have been way better and much cheaper than $14.00. The Kung Pao chicken was rather bland. We have eaten here occasionally or had meals delivered from Fu's Garden over the past 15 years. Our relationship was like most good at first, but then we had some rough patches. She told us that because we don't buy there tea for $2 and she pays $40000 in rent a month that she would not serve us water because we beibg our own tea bags in. I ordered the general tso. It was ok. I wished it was a little crispier & the sauce was ok as well. On a good note the chicken wasn't fully battered. You get more chicken than batter. I walked inside and the place was dark and completely empty. I spotted a lady eating her lunch and it turned out to be the hostess. I asked if they were open and she did nothing but point me to my seat. I felt like I was on an episode of Kitchen Nightmares. The food was terrible, burnt, and tasted old. Only one person was working the counter and there was some confusion about pick-up procedures due to three different identification numbers marking these orders (the cashier was calling out phone numbers but there were also online order numbers and ticket numbers--indeed, even after paying online it was necessary to obtain a paper ticket before the meal would be sent to the kitchen.)
