I love that they have weekday lunch specials through 4 p.m. Angel the waiter was very serviceable. Lunch entrées come with fried or steamed rice, a veggie egg roll, and a soup. I had to forego the soup as their broth is not vegetarian. The egg roll was good. The steamed rice wasn't fresh. Because it was around 3 p.m., it was probably left over rice from earlier. My tofu with veggies and brown sauce was good. I'm glad their lunch prices are about $11.50. Many places have increased their meal prices in higher proportions than inflation. While I don't know how much lunch specials used to cost at Fu's, $11.50 is still reasonable. read more

I order either the Curry Chicken, General Tso's Chicken, Sweet n Sour Chicken, Chicken Leeks or Combo Fried Rice no pork when I come here. This time I ordered the Curry Chicken Meal, light oil n extra spicy. Every piece of chicken was tender and succulent. The onions were sautéed n cooked well. The meal wasn't hot for me, but nicely flavorful and light oil was great without being dry. If food can taste great a little towards the healthier side, I will always go for that option in restaurants. They nailed it. Very delicious n comforting meal. Open until 10 PM means perfect for us. One of our go-to for after the gym foods and Tsing Tao while we wait. The staff are always gracious. The food is consistently delicious. The Mongolian beef is lacking that sweet and salty flavor for me. It's a great bargain deal for lunch, the portion is rather large and could feed two people easily. This is not just your local neighborhood Chinese restaurant. You can tell from the number of people dining in and ordering out. With a large dining area and an open but separated bar dining area-with a TV- they can handle the high traffic. Servers are very attentive and observant when needing tea refills or time for bill. Our server still recognized us even though we had moved to another city and hadn't been there for over a year. Food is delicious. From the steamed rice to the shrimp dishes and everything in between, each menu item will meet if not exceed taste bud requirements. The serving size is satisfying as well. I'm very pleased to say that after numerous to-go orders Fu's Garden has reestablished its consistently. I have been going to Fu's garden for over 25years. I believe Covid created some challenges for them as it did for most businesses. There was a slight drop in quality and consistency but that is now a thing of the past. When ordering during lunch my food arrived incredibly quickly. I live in a mid-rise and the driver knows to call before he's parked to allow me time to get downstairs. The food was piping hot (temperature) and incredibly fresh. I was critical of their crab Rangoon's after experiencing a change in the recipe. However, I'm pleased to say they have reverted back to the ones I know and love. Please bare in mind while they say Crab Rangoons it's mostly creamed cheese. However, they are very fresh and made from scratch. One thing to note is the vegetable egg rolls served on the lunch special are frozen and the egg rolls on the appetizer menu are made fresh. The fresh ones are some of the best in Houston. If you have had a bad experience at Fu's Garden in the past or took note of some of the Covid challenges I would highly recommended giving them another shot. read more

Been coming to Fu's Garden since I was a kid with my grandfather. I'm now in my 30's and he's long since passed, but I am grateful I have fu's garden to remember him & their amazing food he introduced me to!! Picked up takeout on a Thursday, around 2pm. Not only was my chicken & broccoli the blandest I've ever had, I mean it was practically boiled chicken (see picture) I called the restaurant to complain before eating & the owner blamed me for not requesting "brown" sauce... what Chinese restaurant boils their chicken & broccoli & serves up bland, tasteless, pale chicken??? Sadly, my bad experience didn't end there.. halfway through eating I discovered a bug in my food & no it is not a fruit fly, not that it would be excusable for it to be in my food but maybe I wouldn't had been as disgusted as I was when I discovered it. I could literally puke just thinking about it. I have been paying Fu's Garden ridiculously high prices for ordinary Chinese food for far too long, even overlooking old vegetables in my dishes more times than I can count but after today's experience I will not be returning. Fu's prices do not align with their lack of quality, they can afford to buy use only fresh ingredients but they choose not to. I'm giving a 3-star rating just for what happened today. I gave a 4-star rating on a previous review. I ordered a $12.95 lunch special, shrimp and scallops with vegetables, that came with wonton soup and eggroll. I also ordered hot tea, about $4, I believe. I finished less than half of my entree when I saw a small insect-like object on a piece of cabbage. I took a photo and magnified the photo to confirm that it was a baby roach or some other insect. I alerted the waiter who offered a replacement. But I told him that I had already eaten close to half of the entree, and it was enough that I be not charged for the meal. The whole meal would have been about $12.95 + about $4 for tea +tax, about $19 ordinarily, I believe. The waiter alerted one of the management or owner ladies, and she came to apologize. I told her that it was no big deal because no restaurant was perfect and something like that (a bug in the meal) could happen anywhere. I only asked that I be not charged for the meal. But although the lady apologized for the insect in the meal, she said she would just take off the amount for my tea. I told her that for an incident like this, the bill, which had not been sent yet, should be dropped, that I should not be charged for the meal. Then she went back and brought a bill with $12? or so charged and said that she would not charge for the tea, but I should pay for the entree because I had already eaten some. Again, I told her gently that for an incidence like this, I should not be charged for the meal that was less than $20 with tax. Then she asked me to pay for the tea and soup since there were no problems with the tea and soup. I disagreed partly because the soup was part of the lunch special combination and for an incidence like this most restaurants would voluntarily offer not to charge for the meal. Because I was gentle but firm in my stance, she eventually gave up. But I found the experience disappointing. I would come to this restaurant about once a week, and she tried so hard to charge me as much as possible when there was a roach on my meal. But otherwise, I would still say this is a decent restaurant even though the management/owners do not have the best tack. read more

We arrived very hungry, and decided to order the family share meals for two, which comes with soup, appetizer and your choice of entree for a reasonable price. Just don't ask them to switch the white rice for fried rice, they won't do it. They claim they can only do that for lunch. So we were a little bummed about the rice but we bravely carried on with our meals. It all changed with the soups! We both got the hit and sour soup and it was the best hot and sour souls we've ever had! The appetizers came next, with a spring roll, cheese puff and shrimp toast. I loved the shrimp toast, this was something new for me but I found it to be hot and delicious. My wife thought the egg rolls were really good. Then the entrees came. I had the orange chicken, and I can't even tell you what my wife had because my food was so good I ignored everything else around me and just devoured it! Even though it was almost soul crushing to have to eat my entree with white rice, we will definitely be back, because the orange chicken is amazing! Angel is always polite and he will remember you! The lunch menu comes with one dish, one soup of your choice and either white/brown rice. I always get the same dish and the quality and flavors are consistent. He had to call the restaurant for confirmation even after I showed him the confirmation email receipt. FOOD WAS DISGUSTING! Kung Pao Chicken was buried in OIL...not a sauce, not even an oily sauce...JUST OIL! In my 52 years, I've never witnessed anything like it. Shrimp Lo Mein was a flavorless mess of linguine, a couple of tiny shrimp and 3 pieces of carrot. I notified the restaurant of my dissatisfaction. This is really a 4 star review but the service here has always been top notch and lately I've been fed up with incompetency in this leg of a meal everywhere else. I don't expect for my trump to be wiped after every bite by someone standing behind me with a napkin but common sense things like being able to read your customer if they are looking down at the menu and not letting them get a good thought on what they want before looking up giving you the cue to come to the table to answer questions, yes, that was a run on sentence but it's the only way I could put it at this moment. These guys are good at reading their customers and the team work is there. I have yet to have a bad meal here in my 15 plus times here but then again I always seem to order the same things over and over so I will need to. The Sesame Shrimp is to die for but I don't mean by choking on a piece that went down the wrong angle through my throat one night almost calling for the Heimliecht maneuver but that sauce just makes you want to ask for that stuff in a large bottle to take home and eat it with everything you can. The General Tso Tofu, just as good if not better (health wise) as the General Tso's chicken. I mean, the sauce is just right, not too tangy, not too runny, a zing of spice but will not surprise you even to a guest if they've visited from another part of the country where there really isn't a "thing" for spicy food. The Moo Soo Shoo wth Pork, I don't remember how it was spelled on the menu but it is pork in a heavy black sauce (Hoisin?), shredded and with crepes. My only complain is when I read "crepes" I am thinking the egg, milk, flour, sugar batter that is fried wafer thin but apparently somebody got the idea to steal 4 flour tortillas out of Jose's lunch box in the back and place it on the plate to be served as that dish. It was good though, I had that dish modified to be spicy and they sure stepped up to bat with that. The only maybe no so great but not bad food I had there was the combination crepes (with the 4 flour tortillas again). It had a combination of vegetables such as bean sprouts (or was that shredded cabbage? oh well), shredded chicken just like the Moo Soo wth pork but with chicken meat, a plate of "Hoisin sauce" to spread on your tortilla and make like a Chinese Taco. Parking is ok at night time since they usually aren't busy Monday through Thursday but I'm sure at lunch that if you do not get here before 11:30 a.m. then you might as well have been working in an adjacent office because you WILL NOT find a parking place here, you have been fairly warned.
