My boyfriend and I decided to go here right before we went to the beach. The waitress as we walked in was extremely rude and sarcastic asking if I had extra clothes to put on because I had a bathing suit top on. This isn't an issue if there were signs around the facility saying you couldn't wear swimwear or the waitress asked nicely. Once we sat down and I gladly rolled up my dress the waitress continued to stare at me and glare while i was checking out the menu. Although the she wasn't speaking in English it was clear she was complaining and because of her rude attitude my boyfriend and I decided to leave. First impressions and politeness matter just as much as the quality of a resturaunt food. Especially for a restaurant across the street from the beach if people wearing bathing suits is an issue the my should either have signs or be more polite in their ask. read more

This was the third we are here. Delicious sushi right across the street from Waikiki Beach and the Duke statue. Small and cozy. Go early. We did take out one night. They won't take phone in orders, but have your food ready in person in 5 min. Enjoyed the sake flight too! read more

I came here both times I've been to Waikiki. And both times, it did not disappoint. It's right on the beach near all the shops and restaurants so it's easy to spot. The place is always packed and we had to wait a bit. It was worth it though - the sushi was fresh and was worth the price (it was a bit pricey for rolls). Dined in. Ordered the omega and diamond head rolls. Both were absolutely delicious. Omega roll in particular was amazing, as the salmon practically melted in my mouth and the added char provided additional flavor to complement. Not a bad place, just nothing special, however. I'm not a sushi connoisseur by any means, so the omakase menu at Sasabune would probably be wasted on me. However, I wanted a nice homey authentic place (w/ a similar vibe to the ramen place I went too) where I can get some simple, fresh sushi at an affordable price. I probably should have looked around some more...but I got a little frustrated since most of the highly yelped places were a little too far (I wanted someplace walking distance from our hotel), and the Japanese concierge at our hotel didn't seem willing to recommend a truly authentic place (she just handed me a list of "officially recommended by the hotel" places which just had a bunch of high-priced sushi restaurants in other hotels). I wound up just going here since I got tired of looking and it was the first sushi place we saw. The food wasn't bad, and at least it was pretty affordable. I got their special for $24 that had an assortment of nigiri and rolls, while my hubby got some rolls and their $4 mini-udon which was pretty good. I would say it was not a bad meal, but it wasn't particularly memorable and I could have gotten it at any bay area sushi place. I think next time I'm in Waikiki, I'll either do a little more research or splurge a little more, maybe I'll get a much better experience. read more

On our first night in Waikiki and walking around, we spotted this place. What I remembered was everyone in there seemed to be Asian. Good sign, but we didn't go in. A few days later walking around for lunch I had remembered about this place. Since everyone in there was Asian, it has to be good, right? Sushi is one of my favorite foods really. Being from Chicago, we have tons of decent to great sushi places which I eat at quite a bit. However, if you know your geography, you know that these places in Chicago have to fly fish in from all over the place fresh. Therefore, the sushi in Chicago is a little more expensive on average compared to some other cities on the water. I expected the Sushi in Waikiki to be a little less expensive because after all, some of that fish is local right? Not the case. This place was more expensive than what I have back in Chicago, which is already on average considered expensive. So I thought, maybe it's more expensive because it's just great quality. No, not the case at all. I ordered a Somen lunch special for $18. This included a bowl of warm somen noodles, a small cup of miso soup, a small salad the size of a miso soup, an 8 piece simple maki roll (half of it was cucumber, half of it was tuna), and 3 piece Tuna sashimi. $18 for that. I also ordered a piece of Salmon Nigiri ($3/piece) and a piece of Ikura ($5/piece). Was the quality good for the price? No, not even close. Not good quality sushi. Overpriced as hell. In contrast, i can get two pieces of Ikura that's flown in the same number of miles in Chicago for $5. At this place it's $5 for just one piece. The Salmon was not of great quality either. I had better Tuna on the island, the Somen noodles were nothing special. The salad dressing was decent on the other hand and the miso soup tasted like miso soup. I give this two stars because the service was OK. Not rude, and not overbearing. It was alright, and the place was clean. In my opinion, be cautious about this place. The quality currently is not that great and it's extremely overpriced. There are better places out there. read more

I've eaten at Furusato on three separate occasions. They have good fish, but it's not the best on the island. The atmosphere is cute, if you're into tourists gaping into the sushi bar, astonished with people eating raw fish. Also, it's a little pricey, most likely because it's across the street from the beach. I first found Furusato after spending some time on the beach. I had a hankering for something cold & delicious, so when I saw the big white SUSHI spelled out in the window across the street, I decided to take a look. When I stuck my head in the door, there was a host there right away asking me where I'd like to sit. It's pretty much always like that every time I've been. They walk you right in. On my first, discovery trip to Furusato, I had a lunch special which included a somen bowl and sashimi. I had never eaten somen before and the waitress was super nice & showed me how to dip it in the broth with the green onions & ginger. I think the entire meal cost about $27 including tip. The second time I went, I took my husband with me for dinner & we each had one of the sashimi specials. I think I had Dragon B & he had Rainbow B. We both had good cuts of yellowtail and salmon and the rolls were good. We also sucked down some sake. This meal was probably $50/each. The third time I went, we took a couple of friends that were in town visiting. This time, I had the Rainbow B roll, which I liked alot better than the Dragon roll. But, for some reason the yellowtail was not as nice as the previous times I had been there, which was a little disappointing. read more

The price is a little over priced for the quality that you are receiving. The service was very quick (almost alarmingly so), and the sushi was really good (I had some bad stuff in Kauai right before this). Also, not bad prices for Hawaii. The menu is vague. Not much to choose from. Bland food. I know this is Waikiki and it's a little more costly than usual, but OMG, if you are going to charge extra, at least have a better presentation on the food. The pre-made sushi that I buy from Safeway looks and taste better than this. I swear... after I order the food, it was on my table within 3 minutes. Even McDonald's takes longer to pack up a burger and fries. Was this sushi pre-made? Sure seem like it. The food was skimpy. I order this dinner A and my wife order a eel roll (about $15). The dinner A was like $27 or $29... it came with a california roll with a few not so fresh sashimi on top and about six pieces of not so fresh nigri. The sashimi tasted like its been sittin in the fridge for too long. Did not order any drinks... total bill was between $45-$50. And I was not even full. Meh is right. I stopped in because I was starving and happened to be nearby. It was lunchtime and the waitress seemed to be hating life or something and decided to take her grumpiness out on me. The sushi chefs behind the counter were friendly. I was,. however, amused by the loud, dumpy Midwestern tourist who kept raving at the top of her lungs about how wonderful the sushi was and how she had NEVER tasted anything better in her entire life, and kept asking for recommendations for an "authentic" sushi experience. As for the food, the sushi was just okay. The rolls were not well made and the ingredients were only so-so. I was appalled by the mini udon! They literally just dump a bottle of the pre-made soup base with some hot water to make it (and I know this for sure because it tastes exactly like this brand I've purchased for those lazy days). The only people that were inside were really old. I don't know what that was all about. We made the experience as fun as we could. The food was amazing! Rolls came out very fast, followed fairly quickly by our sushi order. Sushi was ok, the roll I thought was poorly proportioned, and the spicy mayo sauce was overwhelmingly like mayonnaise, and far too much on the rolls. The fish seemed fresh, and the food was Definitely not bad, but nothing to get excited about. I had a seaweed salad, which was somehow off, and I ended up not eating most of it.
