The menu seemed very limited I expected more especially because of how pricey the food was for a tiny corner shop. I ordered a rainbow roll which was okay. The quality of the fish was good which made the roll better than it actually was. The little mini udon on the side was yummy. My friend and I both got beef tataki and when it came out we wondered what it was. It was cooked medium - medium well with a few pinks spots? Last time I checked tataki is supposed to be super RARE. Sauce on it made up for the fail. It wasn't tataki but it was still good. We also got the Hamachi Kama which takes 20 mins to make. It was totally worth the wait because it literally melts in your mouth. Yes it's that good. I had a standout dinner at Furusato on my last day on Oahu. We made reservations for 630 and were able to be seated right away. Between two of us we ordered the rainbow and diamondhead rolls (they were huge) and one futomaki. When it says big roll... it meant BIG. We felt like we had way too much food, but it was so delicious that we powered through. Service was impeccable and food came out incredibly fast. First impressions are everything. Perhaps it's comparable to having your first date on all aspects of the experience. You remember how beautiful every detail is of the restaurant or how well the service was. Since you're dining in the heart of Waikiki, you would think the restaurant would take more pride in the quality of the food besides the price. I'm perplexed at this experience. A girlfriend and I were hit with a huge wave of sushi craving after a nice long walk on Waikiki Beach. One of the first places we visited for dinner was Furusato Sushi. They are located off the strip of Kalakaua Ave., in front of Hyatt Hotel. A small little vicinity for a sushi bar lies directly underneath and easily accessible for anyone walking past. A sample menu grabbed the eyes of tourists for perusing. My girlfriend and I decided to give it a whirl since it was the first sushi spot we sighted. Immediately to the right was a sushi bar with decent amount of seats for the solo or a small group. In the center are a few seats for two and the surrounding edges for a party of four. Again, the restaurant is small. There were numerous selections in their menu. However, I am looking for a variety of raw fish and of course to satisfy my craving for uni (sea urchin). I love the options of sushi combo's (price range $25-$30), and sushi roll selections. The choices for sushi rolls were overwhelming with some of the common rolls, dragon rolls, tempura roll, rainbow, and spicy tuna. The prices range between, $16.50-$20 and great for sharing on all the rolls. I have to give credit to the restaurant for having photos next to every name of the sushi. While I'm not fluent with many things on the menu, a girlfriend and I loved every detailed photo. Finally we decided on the Chirashi bowl of our own, which contained strips of maguro, amaebi, yellowtail, ikura, tamago, salmon, octopus and squid. While the rice was plenty and great, the freshness of the raw fish could have been better. The quality of the yellowtail was unbelievably fishy and salty and didn't smell right. I'm surprised there was no control before this came out of the chefs possession. I wasn't sure if this was just an error and they grabbed out of the wrong pile of fish. However there is no redeeming quality when it gets to anything slipping out of the chefs hands and into the many mouths of your customers when a product is simply near spoiled. After the first try, I was fearful to try the others. The salmon was fine and the octopus was okay. Very different to what I've had from other sushi bars and nothing to be excited about. The tamago was surprisingly perfect and comfortingly satisfying. The side of uni was the best experience of the night besides the excellent customer service. According to my very own standards, the sweetness from the uni was creamy from the very first bite down to the last tongue twisting, slow chomping, mouthwatering motion played by my jaw until my eyes opened to satisfaction. I couldn't get enough of it. I should have probably stuck to the uni. While the price is fair for Waikiki standards, you'd be compensating for the quality of the sushi. I've had affordable sushi in Waikiki and are mind-blowingly delicious. I'm happy that customer service was at least excellent from the beginning to the end. read more

Came here for a later lunch after the Aquarium, got seated immediately and chose to sit at the sushi bar. 3 sushi chefs, 1 server, 1 host/cashier all friendly. Food came out quick and it tasted very yummy! :) - Amaebi Miso Soup (5/5). Delish! Ebi makes it more flavorful! - Chirashi (4/5) Good amount, a little bit pricey and the usual fish/food found in chirashi. There is a deluxe chirashi which would've been great to try but the price for that was over the top. - Take (4/5) lunch special. Love the variety in this, nigiri, rolls, tamago on the side. Fish didn't taste as fresh for some reason though. - Spicy Toro and avocado roll (5/5) absolutely great! Highly recommended! Melt in your mouth goodness! :D Btw, hot tea is complimentary, big cup and yummy! Great for digestion! Overall $82 without tip for 2 people, pricey lunch! But pretty good. Great location! There is a men's bathroom inside, unsure where the women's one is located if any, but restaurant is small. I usually don't go to a place lower than 4.5 ratings. There are so many options around me so I am spoiled in that way. However, the location of this place is unbeatable and I was craving some sushi. I went to Japan 2 years ago and the place looked very similar (aesthetically) to the restaurants I saw in Japan so waited (45 mins) to sit. So glad we did it! We went there twice now and we tried the following foods: Soba noodles, diamond head, rainbow, omega rolls, sake sampler, miso soup. Everything was so good. I'd order all of these again without a hesitation. The fish was incredibly FRESH. The rolls were super tasty. Service was great. The price is very reasonable considering the location, # of tables, fresh fish and the amount of fish you receive. Honestly, a "grab-n-go" sushi is around $13 in Hawaii. So, this sushi deserves the price tag (I don't think it is expensive). We had take-out because no table was available. It is way too much expensive and not delicious at all. My kid always eats salmon nigiri, normally he would eat a whole roll about 6-8 pieces, but I only ordered 2 pieces because they sell by a piece for a high price. The pieces were really small and of course it wasn't enough. I had salmon don for myself and it was full of rice and very few pieces of salmon that had no taste. Way too overpriced! The location - being almost directly across Kalakaua from the Duke Kahanamoku statue - is probably the best thing about this restaurant. First, it's extremely small and cramped like you can't walk a meter without bumping into 3 people cramped. So expect to wait for a table since their service is kinda slow too. My sister and I had to wait 20 minutes for a table when we were next in the queue. Food wise, it's okay. I remember it being a lot better a few years back. I'm from California, so I'm used to eating way better sushi. On the flip side, it's moderately priced for Waikiki. read more

To begin, I typically do not leave reviews, but I feel compelled to share my recent experience at a restaurant in Honolulu. My boyfriend and I waited in line for an hour, only to have a dispute arise with two waitresses who claimed that another party was apparently ahead of us in line. This confrontation occurred while we had already sat down, ordered our food, and drinks. Fortunately, a nearby patron over heard and confirmed that we were next in line. Despite this, the waitress proceeded to shame us publicly. I am currently sitting here feeling embarrassed and ashamed, and have lost my appetite as a result. The few pieces of sushi rolls I had were mediocre. Miso soup was cold, spicy edamame was cold, the rolls tasted like rolls you get from the ABC store. The service we received was absolutely terrible, and I would caution anyone touring in Honolulu against dining at this establishment. 3.5 Stars This is a little hole in the wall place on the main strip of Waikiki Beach. I thought because of the location it would be a definite haole tourist trap, but to my pleasant surprise we were the only non-Japanese in this place. The place was packed the whole time we were there. The quality of the sushi was better than I expected. The fish was fresh, the rice to fish ratio was good and the temperature of the fish was also good; a nice piece of fish served on a small mound of rice and the fish was chilled but not cold so it melts in the mouth. The hamachi collar was also very tasty. It takes about 15 minutes, so make sure you order it first and then continue with your sushi selection. A lot of the other tables were getting some type of sushi combo called the bridge (assorted sushi served on plastic bridge). I don't remember how many pieces you get, but I think it was around $58. We chose to order a la carte. We had: saba, toro, maguro, topiko, uni, hamachi, awabi, and uni. So why the 3.5 stars? Well, it was kinda spendy for good, not great, sushi. read more

I come here all the time for their lunch special and its SOOO good . The lunch special comes as the whole package with udon or soba noodles, miso soup, salad, rolls and sashimi so it always fills me up and the sashimi is always really fresh and I'd say it tastes like pretty high quality ! And pricing is actually pretty good for one person like $20? OOOH and to add , there's a really lovely scenic view of waikiki ocean when you eat here .
