This is a pleasant, welcoming rest stop. There is lots of green space, a playground and picnic tables. The inside is also welcoming with a route 66 display area and Illinois on the tile. I liked that there were two areas for women's restrooms with several stalls in each area. The vending machines are well stocked, and there is a variety - candy, chips, ice cream, water, and pop.

Sometimes when you're on a long road trip, you just need to stop and stretch your legs and give your tired butt a break. This rest stop had a unique design, which made it stand out from all the other rest stops we experienced on our trip. Plenty of vending machines to quench your thirst or satisfy your hunger pangs. I liked the metal sculpture promoting a family picnicking and this rest stop had the picnic tables to support it. It also had a special area for pets.

Pleasant stop on the way to Libertyville - everything is clean and CoVid signage is prominent. The bathrooms have blow dryers - cold, not warm air. The playground is closed due to CoVid. Signs about Historic Route 66 are in front of bathrooms, and are informative. Lots of parking - trucks and cars. More trucks than cars when we stopped.

Easy on and off the highway. This rest area is one of the cleanest I have ever been to and it has a nice picnic area.

I honestly asked the manager if the hotel had been involved in a flood and I am still not certain…read morethat it wasn't. The door to the room was warped so bad that it simultaneously stuck on the handle side as it looked like it was going to break off on the hinge side. When I got in the room, you saw a one inch gap in between the bottom of the door and the frame. The sheets were stained with blood. The floor was cracked and buckling. The ceiling and shower was moldy. I caught a German cockroach climbing up the wall. I went to tell the manager about all the issues and noticed a number of the other rooms also had doors in similar condition to mine. One had several hornets buzzing in the window, which makes me think that the broken door may have let them build a nest in the room. The manager dismissed my concerns by saying, "Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! It's an old building." I wasn't asking for a refund, but I got no impression that he would ever do anything to remedy all the problems that I noticed.

I stayed here in 2021 without issue. This year was unfortunately not the same. I arrived a little…read morebefore midnight and had to check in through a banker-esque slot in the window of the vestibule; I was not allowed to enter the lobby. The people checking me in for my stay were pleasant, though. The hotel is undergoing remodeling which it sorely needs. My room appeared acceptably clean upon first glance, though outdated. The door to the room did not close flush which made me a bit uncomfortable, so I made certain to deadbolt and fold the security latch over. The air conditioning unit was a bit noisy but got the job done if I bumped the temperature a few degrees lower than I wanted the room at. I went to bed fairly quickly due to my late arrival and was out of the room most of the next day. On the second night as I laid down to sleep, I spotted something scurrying across the wall near the ceiling. Turns out, I wasn't alone in the room and got share it with a cockroach. Where there's one, there's usually more... at that point, it was late and too dark for me to shake out my belongings (which had been open and in the room for 24 hours) before putting them in the car to try to find other lodgings with an event in town and traveling with a pet so I spent a pretty sleepless night laying in bed watching for more movement. At check out, the front desk person was polite and apologetic when I showed him the photograph of my visitor, but he didn't seem surprised. No compensation was offered, and no one has followed up with me about the experience. It will be my last time staying at this location and, after several poor experiences with the chain, likely at Red Roofs altogether. While I don't expect five star accommodations at a Red Roof, I did expect better for nearly $100/night.
