They did a great job carving a hotel out of a historic building. My favorite part of this hotel is the fun bar in the basement. My second favorite thing is the coffee shop on the ground floor. It is so nice not to have to drive for a nightcap or your morning cup of joe. Cornerstone is an exciting part of the rebirth of downtown Washington. It's way more fun to stay here than some corporate motel!! PS. Wife wanted fluffier pillows.

I wish I had seen the review about room seven! I would've requested to have any other room. We got room seven, and had a similar, but maybe worse experience than the review we read about it. Not only did we hear voices until late in the night outside the window, but trucks and vans, etc. loudly going by honking screeching, etc. The windows in room seven are so thin you can hear anything from the outside. Additionally, the windows that are inside the room facing the inside hallway light up your room all night long. If you're going to stay there, please, please, please remember your sleep mask! We were there for five nights, and never saw another person working there. We had to contact someone via phone for Internet service, for the code to get in after 8 PM, and for additional clean towels. I really felt that it was done on a extremely thin shoestring budget. One more item, if you are the least bit immobile, do not consider this place. There are many steps in and out, and up and down to the breakfast room. The steps are very steep and narrow. I would probably not recommend it to anyone over 40 years old.

The hotel has a patio so you can head outside and enjoy the view. The inside of the hotel is also really cool, with several seating options and a waterfall. There are also several walkable restaurants nearby such as Buffalo Wild Wings, Culver's, and Shake & Stake. Too cold to walk? Don't worry the hotel has a restaurant inside, of which my party ordered from. There was one employee working and serving us--I don't remember her name, but she was kind and considerate. They also have breakfast in the morning. The hotel offers a pool and gym. The gym was in really good condition and had several adjustable equipment. The pool water was a bit chilly and I thought there would be a hot tub--based off online photos, but there wasn't one. The pool water was also a bit salty. The rooms were in great condition, with two beds and one couch-bed in separate rooms--each with their own TV. Furthermore, the sky-bridge from the hotel to the conference center is insanely convenient. Would recommend this hotel.

A lot of cleaner type services were covered with the allergy label- filtered shower water, hepa air purifier, non scented sheets, no pets allowed (huge one for me!)... I was so thankful. Our room was great! It was spacious and they upgraded us to a view of the river / lit up bridge that my kids loved! There was reception with two free drinks and snacks, they seemed to be low on the chips next to the salsa. There wasn't a lot of allergy friendly food, but I was able to get a drink! We had great service when we forgot a few things late at night and they were very prompt and helpful. The lobby is absolutely beautiful and a fantastic place to catch up with family or play a game. There is sooo much mingle room. The fountains were a little dirty and everything in general seemed to need a tune up. At one point the elevator door wasn't working but it was promptly fixed. The bed in our room was comfy, though th allergy liner kept coming loose. The workout room was pretty nice with towels and a great variety of different machines and free weights. Definitely above par from your normal moderate hotel. My two main concerns were breakfast and shower soaps. As someone with allergies and skin issues I usually bring all my own items for shower, but occasionally my husband will use the on the wall soaps... the allergy friendly room was marketed as no harsh smells, but that definitely wasn't true for the soaps on the wall! Holy cow, it was pungent, and even when hubs walked around after it was wafting off him and permeating the bathroom. It was super disappointing and for someone with breathing issues; it was overpowering. Second... i called ahead of our trip to talk to the person that runs breakfast or to have an allergy menu sent and was told they don't have one and that I would be fine and there were lots of options... When we stayed with Drury they had an allergy menu online and a QR code posted by the food. For a hotel marketing to allergen folks, to not have an allergen menu available is insane. When my very hungry 15m old came down to breakfast with me we had to ask someone restocking the buffet about safe food and she told us to stand in the 5-7 person line to ask about food... so holding my impatient and hungry baby, we waited for the man to cook 5-7 omelettes, waffles, etc. we got up to the front and explained our situation (dairy, peanut, soy, almond allergies... anaphylactic ones) and he was listing off various things we couldn't have and seemed completely out of touch with how serious this was. Wouldn't want you to try that... that cough have peanuts... I could make you an omelette in this pan after I clean it out (as there is actively cheese being dumped into it). No. Way. He don't consult labels at all, didn't reference any supporting information, just seemed to be going from memory. Completely unacceptable. Grabbed some Cheerios, fruit and bacon (he said it was safe) for baby and ate somewhere else. She reacted to the bacon from cross contamination. My baby has a rash on her face is going to be up all night screaming from pain. Before this incident I was thankful and excited for a hotel taking allergies seriously...

The bathroom in our unit had a cracked sink and drained slow. I appreciate having four pillows on a bed. The beds were made up nicely. We returned to the reception, and they changed our room 207. But after the manager's hysterics, who tried to prove that the wardrobe could be fixed, the dust was blown off it and the curtain was rehung. Why this was not done before the guests checked in is unknown. In addition, as we already saw in the lobby, the manager simply yelled at an elderly man who had questions about an error in the bill. With shouts and rudeness, they gave us another room 207, in which most of the furniture was broken: a table, a chair, and the door to the bathroom did not close at all. We smiled because we did not want to listen to emotional squabbles and raised voices from the manager. In the morning, we noticed that the hotel had charged the payment twice from two different cards. The reason for this was some kind of system failure: the payment terminal showed a successful payment, but for some reason the staff asked to make a repeat payment with a different card. We showed the staff two receipts for the payment and the debiting of funds from our accounts. The manager came running again and instead of apologizing and solving the problem, he immediately started yelling at us. He also started waving his hands in front of our faces, behaved extremely aggressively, yelled at us and provoked a fight, despite the fact that we asked him to calm down and fulfill his obligations to clients. We were forced to call the police, and only after their arrival did the manager start to behave calmly. But the problem remains: two funds were debited from two of our cards. We demand an apology from the manager for his behavior. We demand an immediate refund.

Check-in was at 4. It was self check-in and super easy. The cabin was clean, and everything was in order. The office was closed by the time we got unloaded so we didn't go. It is open for guests to borrow movies or puzzles or purchase firewood. We met one of the owners the following day. Very friendly and lovely lady! I forgot my hair dryer and she lent me one. There were trees surrounding the cabin area, a swing on the front porch, a grill and picnic table in the backyard, and there is a 2-person jetted tub along with a shower stall inside. It had such a comfortable feel to it. Full kitchen and a table for 4, a small TV and a blu-ray player, and a comfortable full sized bed. The couch was a futon, so if you need another bed, it's ready to go! There was enough space to set up our large crate for our dog. We stayed at the Zonta cabin. Overall, I had such an enjoyable time. Nothing beats waking up early in the morning to some fresh, cool air, the trees swaying gently and a nice stroll with the doggo away from traffic and car horns honking and people hurrying to get to places. I got a lot of peaceful reading time done, about 4 hours' worth of hiking in 2 days, and worked on some puzzles we borrowed from the office. I absolutely recommend this cabin resort for a relaxing getaway!

I'm very happy to report that Kishauwau's cabin fit the bill nicely. Kishauwau is what I've been describing as a cabin development. There are about 15-16 cabins in an area that backs up to the Vermillion River. In fact, the ravines behind some of the cabins are very steep. Anyone with small children will have to keep a close eye on the kids every minute they're out back. The scenery is spectacular, but oh boy, you don't want anyone sliding down that ravine. Our cabin had all the basics we needed -- a double bed, a fold-out futon couch, a big bathtub with a separate shower, and a kitchen stocked with plates, silverware, pots and pans, dishwashing liquid, and more. Every cabin has a outdoor fire ring, a grill, a porch swing, chairs, and a picnic table. The larger cabins had several chairs and tables. We had a TV with a DVD player -- you can borrow DVDs from the plentiful supply in the office building. NO INTERNET! If you can't live without access to instragram, you will be out of luck. So, be sure to plan ahead for ways to entertain yourself. I should also mention that the cabin was spotlessly clean when we arrived. The grounds are neat and well-maintained. The office has simple supplies for sale such as toothpaste, shampoo, etc., along with some snacks and drinks. There is also a small gift shop. I've already recommended Kishauwau to two friends here in Chicago. I'm very happy to recommend it to you, too.
