We used to stay in the suites several times a year. After our stay last year I have to say that was probably our last. The room FELT dirty and smelled so bad I could barely breathe. We had to leave and go get air freshener just to stand it. The hot tub only partially worked and the shower smelled like mold! When we used to come all the time the housekeeping was impeccable this stay just left me feeling itchy and gross. So unfortunate! read more

I dont recommend anyone go to sunset inn in clinton. I thought the rooms looked pretty cool online. When we got there the bt player was broken hanging ou of the bed. Half the lighting didnt work, one side of the hot tubs buttons didnt work. Then when we finally got in the hot tub the button wouldn't shut off and started to flood the room. So then they gave us a dry regular room to stay in for the night even tho I paid for the fantasy room. I tried to get a full refund back in the morning and the owners were rude af and said it was our fault and we couldnt get our refund back. I went tf off. This place needs to be shut down! read more

The website did not indicate the pool was closed and apparently has been for some time. The pool is advertised on their electronic sign in front with beautiful picture. Disappointing if your traveling with children and expecting to get what is advertised. Some locals I spoke to while in town said that this hotel used to be well maintained and a great destination. There were some bad reviews had us a little skeptical, but we went anyway, and had the time of our lives. We stayed in the rainforest room and it was beautiful. The ambience of the lighting was wonderful. It was a little dusty, but it was nothing major I think those people were just being picky and the bathroom was absolutely stunning. We had the best night That we have had in a long time and the staff was super friendly. We even got to see rooms the next morning of more fantasy rooms and we cannot wait to go back and Erin was the lady who checked us in. She was absolutely amazing had the best personality ever the lobby was super clean, so I don't know where all the bad reviews come from very strange, but I highly recommend this place, we cannot wait to go back!! read more

We were staying in Clinton Illinois at the fantasy suites. When we checked in the first thing to hit us in the face was the smell of marijuana. The room looked nice but the recliner was broken, The hair dryer also didn't work. And you couldn't get into the room very easily as the key barely worked. So we moved to the 2nd room and the barstool was broken and the trim around the door to the sauna fell off when I opened the door. No coat hangers to hang up our clothes and the hot tub was all chipped up. All and all our stay wasn't the most pleasant. We even had to endure thumping music coming from the next room for about an hour before I called the desk and complained. I asked if they had a maintenance man and she said he hurt himself and wasn't available. We felt like they had a skeleton crew and I don't feel that the people were legal in our country. I give it 2 stars and I wouldn't stay there again. read more

Sarfari room had no a/c. The fridge did not work right it was stuck on 46 degrees. There was a very large fan setting next to the safe. I wondered why. The guy that came down did not speak very good English and knew less about a/c than me. They had to know there was no a/c because the fan was there. They had no other suites available. We took a regular room. It was also disappointing the shower ran water on the floor and the sink leaked where the faucet mounted. At least it had a/c and a cold fridge. The hallway stunk like weed. The rooms we were in were tired and not professionally maintained. They were supposed to call the next day and have never done it, a week later. This is what happens when someone from a squat pissing third world country comes here and tears a very good business down. Dont waste your money. They bought it to take money out and not put anything back into it. Its not worth spending your hard earned cash there. Plenty of better ones around and cheaper. We will never go back read more

Poorest room! Left a day early! Went to rekindle my romance with my ex husband after two years! Shower you couldn't get off of 110% my ex had to fix it the next day! Sauna would not shut off the first night there, went and told the owner he proceeded to tell us to get out and shut it off my the breaker box! Had the repair guys come in the next day to fix it! Asked for our money back since we left early and all we got was a $50 voucher for the casino room and next time we come a credit for a room! Which will be never!!!!! read more

Just rating the pool area. We went on a Saturday and it was crazy busy (which I totally understand). The water was cloudy and filthy, lots of stuff floating around. The bottom of the hot tub had lots of sediment... I don't want to know what that was. The bathroom by the pool had no soap. I took a very long shower when I got home. It also seems like there are kids whose parents just drop them off and don't supervise them. That's not necessarily the hotel's fault. But their signage says kids need to be supervised and it's definitely not enforced in any way. The pool party room was fine though! read more

The highlight of the room was the hot tub and shower. Unfortunately when we entered the room it smelled like cigarette smoke. Neither one of us smoke. The hallway reeked of weed. Sunset Inn & Suites is an annual tradition for my girlfriend's birthday. Every time we stay at Sunset, we are amazed by the friendliness of the staff and the quality of the rooms. We try to stay in a different fantasy suite each year. Last year we stayed in the Starlight Glacier suite. It was a truly magical experience and the pictures simply don't do the room justice. This year, we stayed in two different suites: the Safari Adventure and South of the Border suites. Safari Adventure, similar in size to Starlight Glacier, was fantastic. Another magical experience. South of the Border, while smaller than Starlight Glacier and Safari Adventure, was still just as wonderful. The theme was expertly done and prevalent in every detail. Whoever designed these themed suites is truly creative. Shannon was also a highlight of our stay. She went above and beyond to ensure our experience was top notch. We look forward to our next visit and are definitely going to be repeat customers for a very long time. read more

We've rented the South of the Border suite before the only thing I didn't care for was the room needed dusting. Now we are here my twin sisters turn 60 this month one flew in from FL for the week so their spouses me & my wife decided to rent suites for the night ... I finally got the Roman Retreat I think that's what is called ... I wanted this one the first time ... Omg ... We paid $236 for one night here ... I don't mind paying the money but the suite is DEFINITELY not worth that cost. In both of my sisters suites the bathroom is awesome ours not so much. The lighting sucked & the flame on the supposed fireplace was so small we couldn't hardly see it ... VERY DISAPPOINTED! From looking over the reviews here & other places looks as if management doesn't care if you like it or not .... Most DEFINITELY won't be driving an hour to spend this kind of money again ... This review is only with regards to their gift certificates. Beware! Not only are they limited to Sunday-Thursday (which is super inconvenient), but they make you come to Clinton and drop off the certificate in person to secure a reservation. I do NOT recommend! If it was possible to give a zero or negative rating, I would. I stayed in the South of the Border suite on Friday 11/19 and I woke up at 2am to hear a mouse chewing on the snacks I had brought and left on a table, which was right next to my bags. Later we discovered mouse feces on the box spring at the head of the bed, which means this is an ongoing issue and something they should be aware of if the rooms were being cleaned properly. When I called the front desk, they said there was nothing they could do except offer me a regular room for the night, couldn't even come do something about the situation or confirm nothing had crawled into my bag. As if that wasn't bad enough, I have gotten the run around from the staff, management and the owners ever since. I had to call them nearly every day for over a week as neither the manager nor the owner would return my phone calls. In the end, the most they would do is offer me $50 off my next stay. No one should have to pay for the experience I had and I certainly will not be back. read more

Excellent themed suites with reasonable cost for anniversary get-away with saunas, hot tubs, and steam showers in most suites. Thrilled with many rooms - only one is non smoking so far with another one planned next year. We stayed in South of the border and the Cabin (amazing) this year along with the Pearl under the sea (amazing theme with fish tank between shower and hot tub but a bit musty and no real good seating - a great get away for a younger couple). Save money booking Monday through Thusday nights if you can. Pool and exercise room open 24 hours a day. Breakfast is okay but would welcome the addition of eggs, oatmeal, or waffles. We've stayed several times and are looking forward to the Glacier Suite next year. read more

Then I found out ONLY TWO of their fantasy suites are NON SMOKING!!! GROSS! They have the nerve to charge $40 more for a non smoking suite too. One of the non smoking rooms boasts a faux fur bedspread and I just can't even with that one wondering how often that gets tossed into the washer.. I booked the "Hawaiian Waters" fantasy suite as a surprise for my BF. Some friends stayed in the "Crystal Caverns" a couple years ago and highly recommended it. I was a little skeptical. I was worried about it being cheesy and unclean. I was pleasantly surprised. It was a beautiful room. The cheese level was low. It was a nice little get away to paradise. It was easy to forget that you were in Illinois during an ice storm. It was super clean. We brought a bucket of margaritas and enjoyed the ambiance. We would like to come back and try another theme. They have a pretty detailed website as far as pictures. I advise you to go during a weekday and save $70. Leave housekeeping a sweet tip. I am sure they deserve it. read more

Spent 2 nights here. The first night was in the "log cabin" suite...I wish we could have just stayed in that one. Customer service was good, place was clean, and I truly felt we were in a nice log cabin. Then came Sunday (day 2). A really unhappy desk agent took over. We were designated to move to the Arabian Nights suite and this personality literally called at 11:02 to tell us that check was at 11:00am. Nice 2 minute leeway beside the fact our next suite wasn't available. They did let us stay but when the Arabian suite was ready, the nice lady called again and was put off by the fact I told her we needed 15 minutes. Her reply was actually "you mean you didn't get your stuff ready when I called the 1st time"? Then to the Arabian room. My guess this is one of the 1st suites they built a long time ago. This room was horrid. It smelled of stale smoke and nude-e bar. It was beat up and cheesy. I was waiting for either Quagmire or Larry from 3's company to come strolling in. I literally felt dirty leaving the next morning. This 2nd day was just eery. The service sucked and the folks hanging around the pool had a charles Manson/Cult type weirdness to it. After all this, if I was guaranteed a new room like the log cabin, I'd be back but I sure won't recommend it to anyone, especially my conservative friends because they would think my wife and I are some sort of kinky, swinging, sex freaks! read more

I recently stayed at the Sunset Inn & Suites, in the executive apartment. I chose this room because of the fully stocked kitchen and the spacious room. My daughter and granddaughter stayed with me so we needed plenty of room. The staff at the front desk was very friendly and able to answer any questions I had. In the lobby, there is a nice sitting area with a fireplace. There is also a nice dining area where you will find a continental breakfast. The pool area and sauna are located down the hall from the lobby. There is also another room off of the pool area referred to as a tiki room. You can get out of your room, enjoy some drinks and relax in this area. There is also an on-site laundry area for convenience. When I opened the door to our room I immediately noticed how clean the room was. As we got settled I started to check things out. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, silverware, and pans. There are stainless steel appliances as well. The furniture is not typical of a hotel room. It is comparable to what you would find in a home. The sofa also pulls out into a queen bed for extra sleeping space. There are two flat screen TVs with one mounted on the wall in the living room and one mounted on the wall in the bedroom. There is also a DVD players for your entertainment should you decide to rent a movie which I did. The king size bed is a custom made pillow top mattress and very, very comfortable. There is plenty of space for you to put your clothes in the wall unit next to the bed and in the closet. The bathroom has a very nice, large shower that has a rainfall shower head and also another hand-held rainfall shower head. There is also a bench inside the shower should you require it. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you are in the area. The price of the rooms is comparable to other hotels in the area (Decatur, Bloomington) but, frankly, I think they are better because the rooms have been fully updated relatively recently. The only suggestion I would make is a broader selection for breakfast. I realize it is a "Deluxe Continental Breakfast" but having options like instant oatmeal or instant cream of wheat would be great additions to the selection. read more

We were there just for a birthday party in the pool area. The space is ok and the kids had fun but the water in the pool was nasty! I had to swim with our littlest one and kept stepping on debris at the bottom of the pool and kept getting nasty fake hair tangled up in my fingers. I didn't know it was there because I could not see through the water-it was so dirty and cloudy. There's sludge built up around the sides too. Needless to say we took full advantage of the shower stall in the bathroom and thoroughly washed up after swimming. The worst part-I emailed management but they never responded back. I would never rent the place myself- I only went and unfortunately have to go back because we are invited to birthday parties that are held there. read more

I have previously had wonderful experiences with this hotel, and I love the suites that they offer. I am incredibly concerned that they are ignoring a potentially large problem and exposing people to bed bugs on a daily basis. I spent the night of March 23, 2016, in the "Wine and Roses" suite, room 217. This was a get-away on my spring break, just for some relaxing time. I enjoyed my evening, went to bed, and woke up covered in bites. I have bites on my face, chest, arms, fingers, back, and on my legs and feet. I did check the bed, and I didn't see any bugs or shells. Hoping that perhaps it was somehow something else, I left, went home, and still immediately washed everything, just in case. In the next several hours, the bites became more prominent. I called the hotel to report the issue around 3:30 pm, convinced it had to be bed bugs and having then taken benadryl to try to help with my itching. A couple hours later, I decided to look to see if there had been reports for the hotel before. I was then incredibly alarmed to find a review on Facebook noting the same problem and having seen a bug. The hotel had responded to the review by posting their report that showed "no signs of bed bugs" --this report was for the SAME ROOM! just over a month ago. Becoming much more concerned at that point, I called back, and I was transferred to the owner. He told me that there was no way it could be bed bugs because: 1. They previously checked the room. 2. There was a mattress cover. 3. The friend I shared the room with wasn't having any issues. He told me that I must have either been allergic to the soap or been bitten by a spider (a good 40+ times?!!).I was told that people stay in that room nightly, and there had only been the concern over a month ago. I felt that the situation was very much laughed off. I would hope that someone running such a successful hotel would take concerns more seriously, even if the room had previously been checked (ie at least reassuring me that he would have the room checked again before subjecting anyone else to this). Had I been allergic to a soap, I would expect a somewhat regular rash over the areas of my body that came in contact with it. I have rows of spots in some areas, clusters in others, and it's in places that were not touched by any soap in the room. I am aware that bed bugs hide in places other than mattresses. This suite is filled with cloth-covered surfaces and thick carpet. I am aware that it may take several weeks for someone to experience bites for the first time, and a large percentage of people do not react to the bites at all. So, now I'm spending the rest of my break in pain, itching, and embarrassed by the bites on my face. While I previously recommended this hotel to any and everyone -- they do have amazing rooms and a great pool, sauna, and steam room, I won't ever again. The idea of anyone else spending $154 (or potentially more on the weekends/holidays) to be covered in painful, itchy spots is not worth it. read more

Just based on the room and we have been staying here off and on since 2010 and have no complaints about the hotel or it's staff. We stayed here last night and paid $162 for the Roman Retreat. (which room was beautiful) We had the worst experience the customer service was extremely rude. First they had a deal for a free gaming voucher that they never gave us, then when we went to the gaming room they asked us for our id's very rudely. Then last night i went to go ask for 2 paper plates to heat up our dinner. I was waiting for the lady to get done on the phone then she got another phone call i told her to go ahead and answer the phone. While on the phone she rambled off the rooms the person asked her to repeat it then she talked to them extremely rudely and talked to them like they were stupid. Then i asked her for for the plates after she gave them to us i was talking to her and she just walked off as i was talking to her then at 3am we get woke up to loud music when we finally called to complain at 530am we get told "You know we have other customers here too its not just you guys!" at 730 we could STILL hear the music over our TV the on duty manager offered us the gaming voucher (that we were already supposed to get) as compensation. So i called and talked to the owner and the only compensation he offered us was a discount on a room in the future. I told him so in order for you to make it right we have to spend more money there. No partial refund or a free regular room just a discount. He said if we had been there 5 or 6 times it would be a different story but since this was our 1st time here thats all he can do. I normally don't post reviews of places because I generally enjoy most places I go to. However, for this hotel, I will write a review to warn people NOT GO HERE! My girlfriend thought it'd be a fun little getaway to go here and I agreed. What a bad idea it was. The outside of this place looks like it was built in the 60's or 70's and when you walk inside, it isn't any different. This hotel is not kept up. The desk clerk was definitely not a delight either. They were very short with us before we even got to our rooms. And wow, our rooms. Immediately after turning the the key and opening the door, a smell of must mixed with smoke entered our nose. We set our bags down, looked around the room, and then back at each other. We weren't totally sure how to handle the situation that had just begun. Let me start off by saying that it at least looked like they tried to clean up the room. Really all they did was put a cheap mask over the mess. The first thing we noticed after the incredibly awful smell ( And seriously, the smell was BAD) was that the face-plate for the heater was just torn off and lying on the floor. A big old face plate that isn't hard to miss just there so you could see the nasty exposed heater. It was actually kind of funny cause you could see a little air freshener stuck to the heater like that was totally going to fix the smell. The next thing was that we saw a bunch of little white specs on the floor and table. What was it? Popcorn. So that tells me that the place wasn't vacuumed or that anything was wiped down... Great. To add to that, there was little piece of dried gum on the table next to the ancient looking recliners. Some other notes were that the bathroom walls had stains on it that may have been able to be cleaned off but who knows because I doubt they tried. The shower head was broken or rusted or something -- I really don't know, I just didn't want to touch it. The mirrored ceiling was coming off in certain places. And the carpet, bed, recliners, furniture in general, and basically anything in there looked older than I was. On a brighter side, i pushed the bed with my foot, and it seemed pretty sturdy... so ya, there's that... Anyway that's basically the gist of it. We weren't going to stay there even if our lives depended on it. Of course, we tried to get a refund, but it was no use. If you read some other reviews you'll see how the owner "Dick" is obviously a dick. They got our money with us barely touching the room so I'm sure Dick is happy. I was just happy I was out. So my final point being, DO NOT STAY HERE! I know there aren't many places to stay in Clinton but if you just go twenty minutes down the road, you can stay at a way nicer hotel in Bloomington for a cheaper price. Main points: -DISGUSTING -Rooms are way smaller than what they look like online. Plus a lot cleaner. -Staff was short with us -Smell was horrendous -Nothing was kept up and obviously not cleaned well at all. -If you book from a phone, you will not be told that your room is smoking or not. -They will also not inform you of the TWO WEEK cancellation policy. -I'm guessing the people who were ecstatic about the place are either not real or just had a lot of alcohol in their system to notice anything read more

My husband and I stayed in your fantasy sweet crystal cave on Sunday August 6, 2017. We were truly excited bc it was our anniversary. We felt as if there were numerous amounts of incidents that discouraged our stay. When we arrived there was a yellow 'blower' of some sort by the hot tub running. When my husband addressed the front desk clerk, he didn't even make eye contact and just said basically that they were working on that room because someone had made a mess previously. No big deal we thought so then went to get in the hot tub and it looked as tho someone had vomited in the hot tub... which I was already in. I was mortified. Again my husband addressed the front desk and we felt as tho we were of no concern. They finally had someone come in to clean it again and we left and came back to our room, could still see particles left in the hot tub. Front desk guy came and cleaned it also.. Again addressed it... my husband cleaned it himself after that. Went to shower the next morning and there was a half empty bottle of shampoo with the cap off next to it assuming the shower hadn't been properly cleaned. We were disappointed in our stay and thought this should be brought to your attention to make future guests you may have happier than we were. We were told that the manager or owner was out of town and would be contacting us when they returned but also never received that call. read more
