Cockroach in the room
Kelly S.

I stayed here in 2021 without issue. This year was unfortunately not the same. I arrived a little before midnight and had to check in through a banker-esque slot in the window of the vestibule; I was not allowed to enter the lobby. The people checking me in for my stay were pleasant, though. The hotel is undergoing remodeling which it sorely needs. My room appeared acceptably clean upon first glance, though outdated. The door to the room did not close flush which made me a bit uncomfortable, so I made certain to deadbolt and fold the security latch over. The air conditioning unit was a bit noisy but got the job done if I bumped the temperature a few degrees lower than I wanted the room at. I went to bed fairly quickly due to my late arrival and was out of the room most of the next day. On the second night as I laid down to sleep, I spotted something scurrying across the wall near the ceiling. Turns out, I wasn't alone in the room and got share it with a cockroach. Where there's one, there's usually more... at that point, it was late and too dark for me to shake out my belongings (which had been open and in the room for 24 hours) before putting them in the car to try to find other lodgings with an event in town and traveling with a pet so I spent a pretty sleepless night laying in bed watching for more movement. At check out, the front desk person was polite and apologetic when I showed him the photograph of my visitor, but he didn't seem surprised. No compensation was offered, and no one has followed up with me about the experience. It will be my last time staying at this location and, after several poor experiences with the chain, likely at Red Roofs altogether. While I don't expect five star accommodations at a Red Roof, I did expect better for nearly $100/night.

I think it costs money to watch satellite TV!! There is a very odd warning and not to mention the TV quality is shit

For the price this inn is as good as it gets. For less than $50 you get a nice room, breakfast, and free parking!

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel, which is literally just steps from the campus of Illinois…read moreState University. The front desk, staff and all of the staff that I encountered during my stay were very welcoming. The hotel was meticulous in my room was sparkling clean. That's not something you often see and most well used hotels. The bed was comfortable and I really enjoyed the toiletries provided in the shower. I often find myself wanting to buy different shower gels that I try at various hotels and this one did not disappoint. The positive is that they have a small dining area and shop in the lobby and they're also connected to a Starbucks that opens as early as 6 AM, if you definitely need to have your morning coffee like me.

I'm pretty lenient with my hotel standards, but this one really just missed the mark in so many…read moreways. We were midway on a road trip and stopped here, and it looked so promising online before actually experiencing it. The car area to drop bags up front is a small semi-circle and a bit chaotic. Cars get stuck easily if just one car up front takes too long. So it's kind of a weird 'welcome' as it is. From there, I think I may've experienced the most checked-out-check-in guy I've ever seen working the counter. It was actually impressive, like a caricature of someone who hates his job. I said hello, he stared at me. I guided him through how to check me in essentially, giving my ID, spelling my name out, and a credit card. He said not a word. I had to ask everything; ok and the elevators are that way? Breakfast is what time? Parking is where? etc. One big draw for this summer road trip with our longest day driving so no matter the weather, we knew they could swim here. Nope, pool was closed and that set everyone off. Girls were like "this trip stinks we wanna go home!" The room was fine, smelled a bit mildewed. Nothing too bad, but just fine overall. The breakfast the next day was poor quality, IMO. The oatmeal was impressive in that it was somehow super watery AND super thick and gummy. The fruit options are minimal, and it's sort of more 1990's continental breakfast than Hampton Inn. I was excited to see hard boiled eggs but they left the shell on and they were super sticky, so that was a one and done. Luckily the staff on the way out was friendlier than the guy before (would be hard not to be) and the hotel luggage carts came in handy. Other than that, very forgettable, and I would definitely go elsewhere next time around despite the nice location for this hotel.

Outside: cool looking building with current open space beside and across. Inside: cool lobby, workout area and outdoor hangout ( tables, outdoor fire). Rooms: latest everything! Big screen tv, microwave, kitchen sink, dish washer and kitchen utensils. Bed: of course ultra comfortable, pull out couch and privacy curtain if needed. Staff; always attentive manager walking around. Front desk staff ultra helpful as they also work out the newness of the place. Summary: love the hilton name and classy feel of the place. Upscale yet affordable in a great location. Had a dog with us and she also gave it a paw up. Great addition to the nice town of Bloomington. I will be back for sure.

Check in was efficient although the room I chose during check in wasn't the one I got. I didn't complain as I got a similar room just a different floor. A couple items to note the clock was really dusty so probably needs to wiped down and the lotion in the wall pumps needed a refill. I was there four days and was pretty much empty throughout the stay. Now for the pluses- a good variety of food for the free breakfast, water filling station, large room with full size refrigerator and microwave, lots of charging outlets and living room area. Lots of parking and close to restaurants, markets and other stores.

Staff were always welcoming & accommodating. I loved that everytime i checked in or called to book a stay that the staff remembered me. That means alot when you are frequenting an establishment on a regular basis. Housekeeping didnt always come in a do a full makeup either. Some days they came in & tool the trash but didn't make the bed. And it's like at that point why bother? For context my trash probably only needes to be pulled every 3 days. The rooms were a bit tight in the double rooms, with little to no walking space between the tv stand & beds. My biggest complaint would be for them to have oversized vehicles park in the back lot. Many days I got off a 12+hr shift & couldnt get a parl due to the Buses, trailers, etc parking & taking up 2+ spots. I thought that was pretty inconsiderate & inconvenient to other guests.

Meh. It was a Best Western charging Best Western Plus prices because the room and experience did…read morenot justify it. Our room was small but that was fine as we were barely there. However, there were some issues that made the stay less than what we expected. First, the water pressure from the bathroom sink faucet was lagging. And the water came out at all sorts of angles. The water pressure in the toilet was horrendous as well. It barely could flush the toilet paper from a quick #1 visit. My husband, ever the brave and handy guy, requested a plunger but never was able to get a decent flush. And then there was the breakfast - it's nice there is a sign informing you that can inquire about gluten free and dairy free items BUT you have to have those items available. I can't eat dairy. It's not a lactose issue - I really cannot have any dairy proteins at all. At all other Best Western Pluses we have gone to, they have had individual serving cartons of almond milk that I can ask for - but they did not have them. So while everybody else had four different choices of dairy milk, yogurt, many assorted pasty, scrambled eggs, pancakes, etc - my only option for breakfast was...oh wait, nothing because I couldn't even find fresh fruit.
