I had an excellent stay here for a work event during the summer. I checked in on a Thursday and out on Saturday. All of the front desk employees were excellent. They were very friendly, helpful, and provided good directions to local small businesses for food and beverages. The location was also walking distance to ISU campus which was nice for my event. My room was spacious, very cool on a hot summer day, and well kept. The only challenge was that parking was across the street which could be a challenge if you had a lot of luggage- but it was fine with my one bag. Overall, I felt that the entire hotel seemed bright and new. Breakfast each morning was included and was nice with a good variety of options. There is also a Starbucks in the hotel, though I did not use it this time. I will absolutely stay here again if I have another event! read more

I was in the area to visit my boyfriend's Alma mater, and we decided to stay here because he got a good deal. We had a great experience. I liked how they had free breakfast - nothing fancy but multiple options which was nice. The room was spacious and clean. There is a pool, but it was unfortunately closed. This place is pretty good people at the front desk are very friendly. They smile every time you come in the door and greet you. They have a pool they have a gym. They have a deck outside with a fire pit overall, they cleaned the room very well. They didn't disturb anything we had in the room. They were very friendly. They didn't speak English, but that was OK. I would definitely recommend this place if anybody's in the Bloomington Illinois area or normal. read more

I was just here to visit my brother in college and the hotel was wonderful! I was having a bad night due to going to another hotel that turned out to be terrible and immediately left. Last minute I called here and they have affordable rates and Simone at the front desk was so lovely. I will be definitely be returning here when I come out again to see my brother. This is the place for normal visits that everyone raves about! The room is spacious and the coffee in the room worked for me. The blackout curtains were top notch and the room was very quiet. There was a fridge in the room and the bathroom has a size able countertop. The lighting in the bathroom was horrendous for makeup, weird shadows everywhere, so that was a miss. The closet had plenty of hangers and the beds were firmer than I like but probably appealing to most men. The hotel bar has a nice Prosecco but honestly I wouldn't have anything nice to stay about other wines I have tried there. The lady bartender really makes the place fun! The location has plenty of walkable options for pharmacy, bar, restaurants, coffee. They do breakfast, I almost forgot and it's pretty good actually. I only tried it on the last morning of my stay. With a choice between Hilton and Hyatt, I would pick Hilton for the makeup mirrors and comfortable beds. read more

Ghetto hotel, way overrated. Inconvenient parking across a street that has no stop sign, we were almost hit by two cars that ignored the cross walk markings and also a city bus. The parking area is shared with the train station and we ran into all kinds of characters over there. Did not seem 100% safe. Our room was dirty with leftover underwear. Shower head didn't work well, tub didn't drain well, towels were worn and should have been replaced. Hair dryer hardly blew any air. Small tv. Everything seems original and dated. We had a three night stay and our room was never cleaned. I asked about this on the first day and they said, yes it would be cleaned. It never was. The front desk was useless. They said the mgr would have to address but i guess the mgr is never there, we never heard from them. Upon checkout they said they were unable to adjust the bill - charged us the full amount. They are total crooks and Hyatt and the Town of Normal should be embarrassed. read more

Unfortunately I have to give this place only 1 star. The room was nice and clean but unfortunately the customer service was horrible. There was a very nice man working the front desk who was very kind. However there were two woman, one supposedly is a "higher up" who caused this to be very frustrating. When we got to the hotel, they gave us the wrong room, we booked 2 queens beds, they gave us one king. We understood and took the king but didn't get into our room till 4:57am. We were then told our late check out fee would be $10. We then went to check out and they charged us a $60 fee. The woman was not kind over the phone and made a nice gentlemen check us out, instead of talking to us at the check out desk, he then took the $60 off. 2 hours after we left the hotel, on the highway driving home from our trip, the hotel calls us and the woman said she decided she's going to put the $60 feet back onto our credit card and charge us again. She did it while we are trying to drive on the highway, and didn't offer any time or help with this situation of now my card being charged and then charges taken off, then again, then again. I wish the woman who is the "higher up" would have handle the situation differently with kindness because the gentleman was nice and we did really enjoy our room. But unfortunately because of the "higher up" woman's behavior for the 8 hours we were at the hotel, i just can't give it anymore stars knowing how she treated the situation. Online it says the late check out fee is $10, still don't know why we got charged $60. Looks like this is just how Hyatt handles this situation. Very unfortunate for such a clean room. read more

I was underwhelmed for the price. It was clean, staff was friendly, and it was in a great location but it just was a decent room that was way overpriced. We paid about $325 for two nights. They have a gym, which included three treadmills, an elliptical, and a weight/weight bench. The treadmills were cool and were way more sophisticated than they looked. They have a salt water pool, which I didn't use. Not my thing. They have free continental breakfast but it was set up weird due to COVID. You had to order at a window and they give you the food in a to-go box, which sucks if you want a second of something and doesn't allow you to get your toast to your preferred toastiness. Plus, the scrambled eggs were awful- worst he ever had according to my husband. They have a Starbucks connected to their place. That was super convenient. They have a bar. It's pretty small. I did not partake. Parking is free. You have to park across the street and they give you a voucher to use for your entire stay. Make sure you return it when leaving the parking lot or they will charge you. Location is great! Walking distance to restaurants and a couple of bars. Overall it was a good experience but I feel like we were way overcharged. read more

Really comfortable serviceable hotel. In good shape and up-to-date. Beds were comfortable. No toiletries. Shampoo soap and conditioner were in the shower. There was a bar of soap in the room but otherwise nothing. Hotel was relatively quiet when we were there but it was full. Breakfast was decent. Eggs were so-so but OK. Oatmeal was actually good. They had fresh bananas so it was doable. Melon salad was not so good.melon salad was not so good. Parking was across the street. It was convenient. It was shared with City Hall and the train station. It was a little disconcerting to see homeless people sleeping near the entryways but they seem to be OK and didn't bother us. Nice hotel. Staff was very friendly! The pool was freezing however not sure how many people use it while we are Dealing with COVID. There is no hot tub. No restaurant on site however they can make you food from the bar area. The bar area is more of a service counter for food and a drink to grab and go sit somewhere. Super disappointing...came in from a long flight that was delayed 4 hours and really wanted a glass of wine to chill out. The bar was FULL of men drinking. So I go to the counter and the bartender lady says rudely I'm already closed out....you can go across the street if you want to....it would've taken 3 minutes of her time.... Also the front desk attendant was wearing dish gloves, safety goggles and a mask with 2 towels wrapped around his head UNDER the mask making it impossible to understand what the heck he was saying....we just stood there nodding....meanwhile no one at the bar was wearing a mask I'm all for you doing you and doing whatever makes you feel safe but maybe the service industry isn't the best choice if you are that scared. Was he sick and that's why he was taking such precautions? The room was nice. read more

We were expecting more from a very new hotel. It does the job but isn't all that impressive. The front desk staff is rather inconsistent. We were greeted by a very friendly male staff member who offered us waters, explained the parking validation, and made sure we had everything we needed. The next morning, a female staff member was not friendly whatsoever, snapped at us for thinking the waters were free (simple misunderstanding from the other staff member) and when we asked if we could possibly check out an hour late, she didn't even let us finish our sentence and snapped "checkout is noon." Housekeeping even came to our door early trying to clean our room before checkout. Our bed sheets had blood stains on them. When we unfolded the pullout couch, there were old dirty sheets on it. They will not bring you new towels, but instead will call you and say come down and get them. In order to use the bathroom lights, you have to repeatedly reset the switches to get them to turn on, and the bathroom outlet did not work at all. The shower did not drain at all, you are standing in a pool. Somehow we had a noise complaint on us for talking at a normal volume in our room, but there were kids running up and down the hall screaming at 8:00 AM with no problems. The whole lobby is under construction which is a bummer. There is no bar or restaurant available. The pool is closed. Not always a negative Nancy, I was simply bummed out. read more

We recently stayed the night at the Bloomington Normal Hyatt Place and had a less than ideal experience. To be fair, I will acknowledge where the Hyatt Place's strengths are. I will then share some aspects of our stay that were deal breakers. - The Good - First, the website showed that there were no double queen rooms availalbe. I called the number on the website, and while the number brought me to a centralized call center for reservations, Hyatt was able to book me a room with 2 queens. Kelly was the rep and was awesome. Second, the location is great and in the heart of the ISU campus. Within walking distance is the ISU campus, restaurants, and starbucks is even connected. Third, the hotel itself is new, clean, and has a great contemporary design. The double queen room that we stayed in had an "L" couch that was another pull out bed so you can comfortably sleep 5 people. The bathrooms are awesome. TV had free disney junior for the kids. The free WIFI worked fine after the initial registration. Parking was across the street in a shared parking garage but it was not a big deal getting a parking voucher and there was plenty of parking spots. Fourth, the continental breakfast was good. Toast, scrambled eggs, donuts, coffee, silver dollar pancakes, cereal boxes, etc . Enough options for kids and adults to walk away feeling like they had a good meal. Also, the gentleman who cleaned our table was extremely friendly. - The Bad - We checked in a bit early at 1:30 pm (Check in is at 3pm) and surprisingly we were able to get our room right away. We parked, got our luggaged, and dropped our stuff in our room and made our way to our event at the ISU campus. We returned at about 4:00PM for a pit-stop before heading out again. Alarmingly, another family used their key and entered out hotel room. We were shocked. Luckily, the wife of the other party was very understanding but the husband was pissed. I don't blame him. After discussing the situation in the hall, we all quickly agreed to head down to the lobby and engage the front desk to straighten things out. The lobby was in utter chaos. A wedding party was staying at the Hyatt (although their wedding was not at the Hyatt) and were taking pictures in the lobby. I have no idea why the management of the Hyatt would allow a wedding party to take formal pictures in their lobby. It is no where near big enough to safely accommodate the amount of people that were there. The elevators, stairs, pool, business lounge, starbucks door, and general exits were all obstructed by the wedding party. I'll attach a picture. After having to contend with the chaos and literally ducking through a bridesmaid photoshoot, I made it to the elevator only to find out that my room keys were disabled to my room. I then had to call the front desk only to face the chaos of the lobby yet again. At this point, I was just glad to have things straightened out. Unfortunately, no less than an hour later we hear a knock and our door open again! This time it was a gentleman claiming he was part of "house keeping management" with a clip board who was basically by hand confirming which guests were in which rooms. We had just finished giving our 8 year old daughter a bath and my wife was horrified when our door open to see an adult man, Hyatt management, see our child naked. Needless to say, we were upset. The management stated that they apologized and that there was a "mixup" and a "glitch" with their system. The only thing I can logically think of to explain this is that they somehow checked my family in and then mistakenly assigned our room to another family that arrived. This is only speculation, however, as when I called the front desk again to express my concerns the front desk staff was very polite and said he would credit my rewards account for a "half of a night stay free" after asking that my situation was escalated to leadership. I knew I wasn't going to get anywhere as the chaos in the lobby was still ensuing. - Conclusion - The Hyatt Place in Bloomington/Normal is an absolute great hotel, great location, great rooms, friendly staff, but management is absolutely in way over their heads. They should have NEVER allowed a wedding party to shoot in their lobby. Doublebooking a room is a huge security risk. The other family that had access to our room could have stolen our property. Finally, the way they handled fixing their mistake was an even bigger nightmare. My wife is still extremely upset over their staff seeing our child nude. I felt bad for Jocelyn at the front desk who seemed to be desperately trying to get a handle on the situation, but the whole stay was a mess. Chaotic times are where a hotel either shines or crumbles under the pressure. The Hyatt leadership team failed on so many levels and dismissing us with "half" a night in points after what we went through was more like salt in a wound. read more

Let me start off by saying that this hotel is VERY clean and the staff is EXTRA friendly... The beds are super comfy & I love that the Hyatt provides necessities (like razors) at no charge, when you've forgotten something from home. Every Thursday there is live music on the Rooftop Terrace which I enjoyed during my month-long stay. Oh, and the FREE hot & cold breakfast buffet that changes daily was delicious! There's also a brand new Starbucks next door that just opened this month with easy access by a door in the hotel lobby. NOTE: if you're not use to city sounds - know that there's a train station across the street and every time the train rolls through the intersection by the hotel, it blows is horn. For me it was not an issue - as I live in downtown Dallas. They provide earplugs in every room and as the building is very solid, I didn't hear anything else (didn't hear the neighbor in the room next to me nor any other outside noise bedsides the train). read more

We stayed here last week while visiting family in Bloomington/Normal. Check in was a breeze and hotel staff members were friendly and courteous. Our room was larger than expected, clean, and looked new. I'm not sure anyone had stayed in that particular room in some time. The location is great. We will definitely be staying here again. My only pet peeve was that one employee was not consistent with wearing her mask when interacting with customers. We didn't say anything, but would have preferred she wear it when interacting with customers. Otherwise, no problems - loved the property and staff! read more

We stayed here a few weeks ago. Our room was not ready until after 6:00 despite trying to check in at 3:00. I also left a brand new jacket and shirt hanging in the closet. I called the next day after realizing it and the guy at the front desk told me he was too busy to look and to call back. When I called back, he said he didn't find anything but he would take another look and call me back when he had more time?! He never called and I'm guessing never actually looked. Stayed for the first time over New Years Eve and was overall impressed. I liked the advanced technology features of checking in and out online so your time at the front desk was super brief. The beds are super comfy and the king room is a great size with a large couch, desk, mini fridge, armoire, safe, everything you would need. The bathroom sink construction is beyond stupid with the faucet set right next to the edge of the sink so there is no way to wash your hands without dumping water all along the back of the sink, my toiletry bag ended up soaking wet on the bottom because of this. I felt like the elevator has the security feature of needing to wave your room key at the sensor to access your floor but it wasn't activated while we stayed. Parking across the street is validated while you stay, $7 a day I believe. They leave their courtesy van parked in their circle drive all the time so that made trying to pull up to drop off bags an impossibility. I would think they could keep that van in a less public area when not in use. I was disappointed that we were told about 24 hour room service when we checked in so we came directly back to the hotel after our party ended thinking we would order food then but we were told they were too short-staffed for room service that night. I assume employees called in due to the holiday but I would hope they would over-staff knowing that is likely to happen. I believe just one very young man was the only staff member on the property and combined with the elevator security feature disabled was not the best feeling. Also, not the fault of the hotel but New Year's Day at 10:00am the loudest alarm I have ever heard outside went off somewhere outside our window. It was not a fire alarm, it was one huge blast that kept up for several minutes and then abruptly shut off. Never heard any fire trucks or sirens after that so I have no idea what it was alarming us about? As you can imagine, very annoying for the hangover headaches at that time on a holiday. read more

This is the place to stay when you're in the Bloomington-Normal area. The staff are always friendly and checking in is quick. The rooms are spacious, modem and clean. There is a small refrigerator in every room, which is great for leftovers from any of the restaurants within walking distance! The corner sofa in the rooms is also great for chilling and chatting with wine and cheese if you're traveling with others. Breakfast is included. It's nothing fancy and I always find myself getting the same thing: toast, juice and coffee! However, they have a decent selection of cereal and pastries and also hot breakfast items. There's a lovely roof terrace and the swimming pool and gym are great for burning off some energy after a day of business meetings. read more

Parking is in a garage across the street, and since no one offered to take my bags, I had to unload on a cart and leave it in the lobby while I parked the car. Was there with Illinois theatre fest and handled a huge crowd and all our requests. Very Efficient and polite. One lady each morning rolled her cart out with a "g'morning everyone!" Sorry do not have her name. Also they have 24 hr cafe. Room: SPACIOUS! comfortable. Loved the full shower. Hated the frosted door to the bathroom. Ok for by yourself or sharing with family but if you are with friends not so good. Each room has a pullout, fridge and single serve coffeemaker...not keurig :( People mentioned train... we were there Thursday to sat, heard one train in the day. Non issue. Outstanding customer service! Everyone is friendly from the front desk staff to the housekeeping attendants. Every morning during breakfast one of the managers made a point to stop at every table just to say good morning and make sure we were doing ok. The rooms are modern and very comfortable. One person who really stood out was Cecelia. She is always smiling, friendly, and made sure we always had everything we needed during breakfast in addition to making sure the breakfast area was always tidy. When I asked her name she told me then she asked my name and said "very nice to meet you". Just one example of how Hyatt makes their guests feel welcomed. read more

Recently gave a similar hotel 1 star. This one seemed updated and trendy like the last. However, the main room was carpeted. I was very happy for that. I usually bring sandals for bathroom and shower, but just put on aocks afterwards. Having carpet meant i didnt need any warmer footwear in the room! Bed was comfy, room was clean, the front desk employees were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was even complimentary. We didnt take advantage of that, but my last stay at similar place was 10 bucks for nasty eggs in a chafing dish that hadnt been touched all morning. I would have been thrilled if it was just free yogurt and cereal. My only complaint is regarding parking. There is a garage offsite and around the corner that is shared with an amtrak station and anyone else in town that cares to pay for parking. Get your ticket validated and parking is free, but the garage is busy. We parked once on the 3rd floor. There is only 1 elevator in the garage to go up and down. Keep this in mind if booking in the winter cold. Thankfully, it was unseasonably 65F that day. Also we booked a room with a view and there was new construction going so. I imagine that view will soon be a brick wall. There was a bar downstairs were if i were lazy i might have enjoyed. We were in town for a concert though and drank plenty there. Plenty of bars within walking distance and chances they're a better value. Its a college town though. So for privacy or better conversation the hotel bar might be best bet read more

I stayed at this hotel for one Friday night and booked the room on Hotwire. I was very impressed with this new hotel with friendly staff. Lots of positives, like comfy room and beds/pillows with lots of outlets. Loved the modern bath with large shower. Free breakfast was great! They also have 24 hour hot food available for purchase and the oversized chocolate chip cookie is pretty darn good too. Minor negatives: Amtrak station near by and I heard the train at 7am. The parking garage is across the street. Park near the door and unload your car onto one of the carts available. There isn't a connecting walkway so in inclement weather it's not the best set up but it is free and during inclement weather you appreciate a covered garage. There's a Hyatt Place only a few minutes from me so now I'm wanting to go stay there. read more

Have watched them build this while staying at the Marriott across the street, so wanted to give them a shot. I found the staff friendly and helpful, even though there is still some training going on. Their prices are very competitive for the location and the quality of the hotel. My room was very modern and while not huge, I didn't feel claustrophobic like some rooms in town. Everything is new, clean and well laid out. My biggest complaint is parking, as the setup is a little impractical. Maybe I am spoiled by the Marriott's attached parking garage. They really should have built a connected walkway or underground walkway. Having to lug your suitcase/bags from the train station to the hotel across the street is not fun in the winter. read more

I expressed my disappoint at check-out. The Hayatt employee did not seem to care. Good points. Most personnel were very friendly. Easy validation for garage parking. Comfortable bed. Nice size room. Negatives. Either our room was temporarily used or the bathroom was not cleaned well. There was hair in the shower and on the sink. I didn't complain because we were exhausted from a funeral and dealing with the loss. We stayed in a room that was priced a higher because it was a corner room and it supposedly had a view. If you get by the parking garage, the view was ok. But, not worth the upgrade. The floor tile in the bathroom and shower needs maintenance. The grout is coloring and need to be cleaned or replaced. The towels seemed to be from a 2 star hotel. Parking is only available in the parking garage. If the Hyatt is not meeting the standards of a 3.5 star hotel. I paid way too much to stay here and would have been better off at a lower rated hotel. read more
