Nice hotel. Staff was very friendly! The pool was freezing however not sure how many people use it while we are Dealing with COVID. There is no hot tub. No restaurant on site however they can make you food from the bar area. The bar area is more of a service counter for food and a drink to grab and go sit somewhere. There's a continental breakfast that is grab and go right now during Covid. It is located in uptown normal where there are lots of walkable restaurants, shopping and bars.

Chaos in the Hyatt Place - Bloomington Normal Lobby as a wedding party takes professional pictures blocking exits, stairs, elevators, walkway

We recently stayed the night at the Bloomington Normal Hyatt Place and had a less than ideal experience. To be fair, I will acknowledge where the Hyatt Place's strengths are. I will then share some aspects of our stay that were deal breakers. - The Good - First, the website showed that there were no double queen rooms availalbe. I called the number on the website, and while the number brought me to a centralized call center for reservations, Hyatt was able to book me a room with 2 queens. Kelly was the rep and was awesome. Second, the location is great and in the heart of the ISU campus. Within walking distance is the ISU campus, restaurants, and starbucks is even connected. Third, the hotel itself is new, clean, and has a great contemporary design. The double queen room that we stayed in had an "L" couch that was another pull out bed so you can comfortably sleep 5 people. The bathrooms are awesome. TV had free disney junior for the kids. The free WIFI worked fine after the initial registration. Parking was across the street in a shared parking garage but it was not a big deal getting a parking voucher and there was plenty of parking spots. Fourth, the continental breakfast was good. Toast, scrambled eggs, donuts, coffee, silver dollar pancakes, cereal boxes, etc . Enough options for kids and adults to walk away feeling like they had a good meal. Also, the gentleman who cleaned our table was extremely friendly. - The Bad - We checked in a bit early at 1:30 pm (Check in is at 3pm) and surprisingly we were able to get our room right away. We parked, got our luggaged, and dropped our stuff in our room and made our way to our event at the ISU campus. We returned at about 4:00PM for a pit-stop before heading out again. Alarmingly, another family used their key and entered out hotel room. We were shocked. Luckily, the wife of the other party was very understanding but the husband was pissed. I don't blame him. After discussing the situation in the hall, we all quickly agreed to head down to the lobby and engage the front desk to straighten things out. The lobby was in utter chaos. A wedding party was staying at the Hyatt (although their wedding was not at the Hyatt) and were taking pictures in the lobby. I have no idea why the management of the Hyatt would allow a wedding party to take formal pictures in their lobby. It is no where near big enough to safely accommodate the amount of people that were there. The elevators, stairs, pool, business lounge, starbucks door, and general exits were all obstructed by the wedding party. I'll attach a picture. After having to contend with the chaos and literally ducking through a bridesmaid photoshoot, I made it to the elevator only to find out that my room keys were disabled to my room. I then had to call the front desk only to face the chaos of the lobby yet again. At this point, I was just glad to have things straightened out. Unfortunately, no less than an hour later we hear a knock and our door open again! This time it was a gentleman claiming he was part of "house keeping management" with a clip board who was basically by hand confirming which guests were in which rooms. We had just finished giving our 8 year old daughter a bath and my wife was horrified when our door open to see an adult man, Hyatt management, see our child naked. Needless to say, we were upset. The management stated that they apologized and that there was a "mixup" and a "glitch" with their system. The only thing I can logically think of to explain this is that they somehow checked my family in and then mistakenly assigned our room to another family that arrived. This is only speculation, however, as when I called the front desk again to express my concerns the front desk staff was very polite and said he would credit my rewards account for a "half of a night stay free" after asking that my situation was escalated to leadership. I knew I wasn't going to get anywhere as the chaos in the lobby was still ensuing. - Conclusion - The Hyatt Place in Bloomington/Normal is an absolute great hotel, great location, great rooms, friendly staff, but management is absolutely in way over their heads. They should have NEVER allowed a wedding party to shoot in their lobby. Doublebooking a room is a huge security risk. The other family that had access to our room could have stolen our property. Finally, the way they handled fixing their mistake was an even bigger nightmare. My wife is still extremely upset over their staff seeing our child nude. I felt bad for Jocelyn at the front desk who seemed to be desperately trying to get a handle on the situation, but the whole stay was a mess. Chaotic times are where a hotel either shines or crumbles under the pressure. The Hyatt leadership team failed on so many levels and dismissing us with "half" a night in points after what we went through was more like salt in a wound.

Nice hotel, seems newly built, clean rooms, comfortable bed and spacious bathroom. Staff was very accommodating. Good value for the money.

I did ask for maintenance to fix it but they had an excuse the first day but no excuses for the rest of the week. I was offered an alternative room by Wednesday but I guess I assumed it would get fixed the next day. I miss great sleep and that great manager.

Upon arriving in our room - again first glance was okay. But there was a large flickering light fixture in the bathroom, and when we visited relatives in another room the same thing was happening there. Not a deal breaker, but oddly annoying - though not as annoying as the barely lukewarm shower in the morning. Oh yeah - no bathroom exhaust fan either. WHY DON'T ALL HOTEL BATHROOMS HAVE AN EXHAUST FAN? For heating/cooling there was no 'constant fan' option in our room (though our relative's room DID have that feature), which meant overnight the a/c went ON AND OFF loudly on an irregular basis, usually just went we briefly dozed off. And when it was off you could hear every door slam, people talking in the hallway, doors slamming, and people running back and forth down the hall. That is until the a/c went briefly on again. Loudly. We asked the front desk for a fan (to use as some kind of white noise device) but they didn't have one. Pillows were flat and hard, only compounding what was easily the worst night sleep (or lack thereof) I have ever had in a hotel. And I have stayed in a few skeevy joints. The hotel bar apparently closed early on the night we wanted to stop in for a cocktail, so we missed out on that. The whole 'closing early' thing is also a pet peeve of mine. We were told we could not bring our own cocktails down to the lobby, though there was a large table of boisterous teenagers playing poker - so I guess that was ok but not four adults sharing a quiet drink. The room keys were very temperamental - working sometimes and not others. We were told when signing in not to keep keycards near credit cards or they wouldn't work (never had that issue other places, but whatever). Even keeping the key in a separate and empty shirt pocket did not prevent the wonky access issues, which required a few visits to the front desk to have the keycard 'fixed'. Complimentary breakfast was ok, though our party did have some disagreements on the food quality. In all fairness it was about what I was expecting. Short version: noisy, uncomfortable, noisy, and uncomfortable. I can't stress how horrible the overnight stay was here. Sure - your mileage may vary but you have been warned.

An unexpected stop on a trip through Bloomington lead my sister and I to this Best Western…read more Typically, Best Westerns have a good reputation for being clean and comfortable places to stay. However, this one was an anomaly. Once we checked in, we made our way down a dingy, dirty hallway and into the elevator, which looked like it hadn't been cleaned or vacuumed in days. Our rooms were subpar in many respects. The doors looked like they hadn't been damaged and had never been repainted. There were no covers on the peepholes, which is a security concern. In my room, the lighting was inadequate. It was so dark that I could barely see. It was probably a good thing, because upon closer examination, there was dirt, dust and vegetation along the perimeter of the bed and walls. Clearly, no one was vacuuming the floors. The bathroom floor had not been cleaned either. There were stains on it. Needless to say, I did not want to remove my shoes or socks. It just felt dirty. Once I was in the shower, I noticed there was no shampoo. There was plenty of half-used conditioner, but not any shampoo. The conditioner had a disgusting smell, which means it had been opened and left out for a long time. The hotel is not replacing any of the shampoos or conditioners - just leaving half-used ones for future occupants to use. The soap tray in the shower had residual soap on it. It was a thick layer, indicating the housekeeper had not cleaned the shower. There was a broken vent, small hole in the ceiling, and other basic maintenance items that needed to be addressed. There was a general feeling of neglect and apathy toward maintaining the hotel rooms. My sister had to be moved three times before there was an adequate room for her. The first room lacked a functional deadbolt, which is a security issue. The second room did not have a working phone, which is also a security issue. The third room was not cleaned well. There was a fingernail on the floor from a previous guest. There was also pubic hair from a previous guest in the shower. We chose not to eat breakfast at the hotel because we questioned the sanitation and food preparation, considering the conditions of the public areas of the hotel and the hotel rooms. The hotel was perhaps the filthiest one I have ever stayed in. I will never stay here again, and caution anyone who values security and cleanliness to avoid this hotel.

Staff were always welcoming & accommodating. I loved that everytime i checked in or called to book a stay that the staff remembered me. Some days they came in & tool the trash but didn't make the bed. And it's like at that point why bother? For context my trash probably only needes to be pulled every 3 days. The rooms were a bit tight in the double rooms, with little to no walking space between the tv stand & beds. My biggest complaint would be for them to have oversized vehicles park in the back lot. Many days I got off a 12+hr shift & couldnt get a parl due to the Buses, trailers, etc parking & taking up 2+ spots. I thought that was pretty inconsiderate & inconvenient to other guests.
