We got there about 15 minutes before it was to close and they kept it open at at least 10 minutes after that for us and others that were late getting down there that day. I thought that was a classy move. You don't get one minute past closing time at a Hampton Inn. The staff here was absolutely extraordinary! Everyone, from management to the front desk to housekeeping was incredibly kind and accommodating. We were absolutely impressed and would return again in a heartbeat.

The front of the inn is like a porch. Its well maintained. The King room I had was huge. I love that I could easily control the temperature. Bed is comfy and so are the pillows. Overall a nice room. Theres an indoor pool in the hotel, that I did not use. There's also a small gym area with just machines, no weights. Not a bad place to stay in Springfield.

I booked a…read moreone-way flight less than 24 hours before my departure time and was able to fly American with a connection in Dallas. This was exciting as many many years ago the only options were connections in Chicago and that can always be hit or miss because of weather. There are two terminals and you can tell they've added new chairs that were super comfy. As another reviewer said, the security check made me laugh as I agree they must be so bored all day. I have the new "real ID" and the ladies working the check in spot got some leaflet out to verify my states drivers license and then were discussing it while shining some weird light on it. This airport still offers free parking which is unheard of these days. No need for the cell phone waiting area, you can actually park and walk inside to greet your loved ones as they arrive to SPI. :-)

Free parking and very convenient for anyone needing to get to Springfield IL or head out (the TSA can use some improvement as they go through all of your baggage in detail at times such as your 311 bags - and snacks such as almonds peanuts etc in zip lock bags - partially cause they probably don't have much to do or are being nosey). I landed here from Ohare and it was a seamless process from landing to inside my rental car (enterprise ) in less than 8 mins! Amazing. The car was even pulled up curbside for me!!!

I want to start with a couple of warnings to would-be customers of Inn at 835, then I'll move on to…read morepraise. FYI I was in the Delphinium Room. First, and most importantly, if you or someone you are traveling with is elderly or has limited mobility, please double check the room you've been assigned to. When I was getting in and out of the shower/jacuzzi tub combo, it occurred to me how difficult the leap over the edge into a slick tub would be for someone my father's age. (I did use and REALLY enjoy the jacuzzi, and the attached shower was fine, but it's something to note.) Also, shower before 8:30 if you want any hot water! Second, if you're going to Springfield for work and will need stable and strong WiFi, this is NOT the hotel for you. I was just trying to check email and could barely get enough signal to do that. The signal didn't seem to be any better in the cafe area downstairs. Third, if you need a hairdryer, be sure to bring your own. They don't have them in the rooms. Now, on to the positives! What a cute little hotel this was. Parking was easy and free. There was hot breakfast available, which I didn't try due to time constraints. But there were bagels (only blueberry, weirdly enough) and muffins and toast. Also, the coffee was fantastic! The room was clean enough, but I did notice some small crumbs on the rug when I arrived. There were a couple of holes in the sheets, but the sheets were certainly clean and the bed was comfy! There are some great little touches at this inn, such as the warm cookies that arrive each evening and the modest little happy hour in the afternoons. I would absolutely stay here again--it was unlike anywhere I've stayed before. And it was the perfect spot for touring around the Lincoln stuff and the Dana House and so forth.

The tours are informative and well run, but this place is a victim of it's own popularity, it is uncomfortably crowded and busy. Reservations for tours take a couple of hours to get to on a good day, so make them ahead of time. Expect herds of school children, and yes, it's important for them to learn American history, but children annoy me in groups larger than two. Georg Simmel would call a group of two a dyad. So, in Simmelian terms, triads or larger of children irritate me. I digress. This is one of those places you just have to come to visit if you're a citizen or want to become one. Good gift shop.

Lincoln's son gave it to the state, asked them to maintain it and keep admission free. And so it was. The kitchen stove and his desk upstairs are a couple of the original pieces.
