This is my main go to when I am in downtown Bridgeport. I love that there's an assortment of food. First time here. Parking is a little difficult but I found a space on the street. Trying a Manhattan sandwich which is Corned beef and Pastrami with Swiss cheese and Thousand Island on a Portuguese roll. Having a vanilla shake for a drink. my server was very nice. They were out of cole slaw but compensated by putting extra meat on my sandwich. The place was very quiet when I visited. It's right across the street from the Fairfield county courthouse. I stopped in mid morning to meet a friend for coffee and had an excellent pumpkin coffee with a fruit salad. I missed the morning crowd so it was not hectic. The coffee was delicious and the fruit was nice and fresh with a selection of three fruits including grapes, Orange and green melon. Not too exciting but fresh. The staff were very nice and friendly. The place was clean and there were plenty of choices to sit. Plenty of metered parking on the street plus wi fi. I had driven by here so many times not sure what this place was about, but finally took the plunge. It's awesome! Colorful, cheery and lively atmosphere in a place you can get just about anything you want! Everything looked fresh and of great quality. They have a great salad and hot bar with so many tempting offerings. You can eat in or take out, they have breakfast and lunch sandwiches, wraps, paninis, sushi, fresh fruit, yogurt, baked goods, drinks--the list goes on. I've recently been working in downtown Bridgeport, and this is the best cafe in the area. The selection is amazing - they even have a good sushi bar - and the quality of food is all really good. The prices are also very reasonable. They do a lot of business, and they have a lot of people working in the small area behind the counter, so it can be kind-of hectic and confusing at times, but if you're in downtown Bridgeport around lunchtime, I definitely recommend eating here. read more

Makin the trek from Martha's Vineyard to NJ and found this great spot. Easy parking behind, nice interior with a good breeze out the window while I sat on the "trunk" bench seats with the beautiful pillows lining the wall Got smoked salmon wrap and my wife got the Caprese panini w a side of fruit. Both were really tasty. Mine had an impressive supply of salmon in it. Staff was great too. Check out the oven in the men's bathroom. Just hope you don't have to take a seat in there. :) read more

My husband and I just moved to Downtown Bridgeport and this restaurant is directly across the street from us. The owner is very friendly, and there is a ton of different food to pick from. They have traditional Spanish food as well as Brazilian steakhouse style meat , even a sushi bar. They're open for breakfast lunch and dinner. It's a nice restaurant to have in downtown . This place has something for everybody. Sometimes I think it's a little overwhelming and maybe they should pair down the menu just a little bit, but it is what it is. Staff in the restaurant are nice but sometimes I feel like there is chaos and disorganization and lack of communication between all of the staff I am impressed with how the place has grown from a small place over by the courthouse, over by Bob's furniture store, to that beautiful restaurant right by the library, now this buffet by Holiday Inn. This restaurant/the owner of the restaurant, is definitely making a good name for themselves in downtown Bridgeport. They are bringing business to the downtown Bridgeport area. And variety to the downtown Bridgeport area. If anybody is staying at the holiday inn next-door I don't see why they wouldn't eat nearly every meal at the buffet. read more

Just came back from my 2nd visit - both grabbing food to go for lunch. Don't go around lunchtime - the place is too small behind the counter, and they try to offer WAY to many items in such a small space. The soup special today? Eight soups - EIGHT! Wow - so not necessary. The staff is nice enough, but the food is meh. I ordered the Cabrese Panini - the whole point of a panini is that it's a hot, pressed sandwich. Yes, it was 'to go' - my work is 5 minutes away. The sandwich was barely above room temperature, the bread had very little grilling marks. Cheese was not even room tempurature - it was still cold. Pesto was good on it, and the tomatoes tasted fine. It was fine, but below average. read more

I was headed to Dunkin's to grab a latte & I saw Funchal Cafe across from HCC Parking Garage. I decided I wanted a REAL latte and one of the panini's the door advertised. The service was fast and friendly. The choices were many. I grabbed a delish panini called "THE LUCKY" which was like a Thanksgiving Dinner! It exploded in my mouth with so much yummy flavor that I actually sighed! My latte was delish too. I ordered a yummy piece of cheesecake afterwards to top off a wonderful lunch. My waitress was really friendly & helpful so I gave her a big tip. The owner and cook were professional and friendly too. The place looks like a really cool east village coffee shop. All they needed was a cute guy playing an acoustic guitar. I suggest you all check this joint out! McDonalds and all those fast food joints in downtown GOT NOTHING on this awesum place! read more

Just stormed into the cafe, 8 members of my family and I, we were all very satisfied. Lobster bisque for my dad and uncle (very harsh critics when it comes to lobster), salads for my mom and aunt (a lot of salad for one person, every bit a fork full), and paninis for the rest of us! I found this place like Fran C. as I was heading to Dunkin Donuts for yet another overpriced and usually burnt or underdone breakfast and then the sandwich board for the breakfast specials caught my eye. I was hooked after the first sandwich! I was satisfied until well past lunch time and didn't feel sick at all. I went back almost everyday and changed my order everytime. I wanted to try out different things until I could get to my "usual." The owner was cheerful and more than willing to explain the background of cafe. I go far to often! Today as I was dreading the idea of a crappy lunch since I didn't bring anything with me a thought was creeping around the edges of my brain and poof I remembered the cafe. I went on the site to see their lunch offerings and my mouth started to water. I decided to run over and ordered a Caprese panini, which came with macaroni salad. WONDERFUL! They opened a second location this past June of 2015. The new restaurant marks the second downtown location for Fernandes who is also the owner of Funchal Café located at 881 Lafayette Boulevard. The new location offers sandwiches, salads, wraps, Paninis and sushi. The food here is always great and I enjoyed the new locations atmosphere. The wait for the food was a tad longer as the cashier was taking the food orders and only one person making sandwiches. Maybe two people making sandwiches, and the cashiers just checking people out would help speed the lunch rush up a bit more. Other than that stop here and try their delicious food. read more

I was a little overwhelmed with all the menu items when I walked in, but as a vegetarian I came to a quick resolve and chose the portobello pesto panini. It was delicious!
