I craved Poes Kitchen again and look at what I ordered. They know they're food be hittin! Greens are delicious. Salmon cooked perfectly. I ate some and saved much for the next day. After eating, I walked in place in my hotel room because it made me lazy afterwards. I just couldn't keep my eyes open after eating and was sleep around 8pm. Next time I'm going to try something different because I need to post different dinners. Staff friendly even when speaking over the phone. I don't hear an attitude over the phone when I called and inquired about what's on the menu. Nice place great food.

After hearing about this place via YouTube, I decided to try it out-on the same day. I had to try the steak and cheese egg rolls and I am so happy I did. They were addictively delicious. I thought I would have to dip them in mayo or ranch, but nope! They were moist and amazing and the order came with two. For the entree, I ordered wings with a side of mac and cheese and yams. Those are my go to sides whenever I go to a soul spot. Neither side disappointed. I also ordered a side of greens separately. Due to the egg rolls and 2 sides, I was unable to eat the wings and the greens but I have leftovers waiting on me! I called my order in while in Stamford and I still waited about 15 mines once arriving. I wasn't in a rush or famished so it wasn't a big deal. The menu isn't extensive but there are some good selections. Maybe a bbq dish can be added soon? Ribs (beef or pork) pulled chicken or pork? Just a soulful thought. They only sell cupcakes as a sweet ending. Either way, I enjoyed my dinner. It was well worth the drive. And when I decide to cheat on my Keto diet, I'll be back.

When you see something on Facebook that you absolutely must try you get up and travel to get it. Today was just that with a post from Poe's serving breakfast goodness in the morning . Strawberries and cream waffles with fried chicken to be exact. The have shrimp or fish with grits that I cannot wait to come back and try also, but today was all about the chicken n waffles ! Definitely order on the phone and expect them to be pretty busy ,so you know ahead of time or pre-order the day before to guarantee a time . The waffles(four) were good light and crispy as they should be with coated berries ontop. The wings were so good I ate them all pretty quickly. It is rather nice inside with a couple booths and TV. They was very careful not to let more then a few people who's orders were ready during this Covid19 situation. I will definitely be back !

OmG WOW - SO GOOD! Banana pudding cupcake on bottom, strawberry shortcake on top.

BEST fried shrimp in town - hands down, period, point blank! BIG, And juicy! (all different kinds of sauces to choose from, too) Just one complaint - bring back the fries from before, please - the nonskinny ones - they were SO. DANG. GOOD!

Supporting local establishments has been a part of my life a long time, few things make me happier. With that said Poe's Kitchen has been in business 2 years (I asked) but I've somehow never made my way. Parking can be a little tricky if its busy (which it was at 3pm) & being cooked to order you ARE going to wait. I would recommend calling ahead & saving yourself time. Poe's kitchen is a no frills establishment, a quality I love but can come w hiccups. I placed my order and was told 40min. Cool w me. Walking to my truck, the young lady who took my order informed me the pork chop dinner sold out. Bummer. Other menu items were unavailable as well but I was informed prior to ordering. No biggie. Swapped out chops for garlic parm wing entree. Mac n cheese and spanish rice were my sides of choice w cornbread included. Also ordered fried catfish. I was hungry When I came to pick up 40 minutes later it became apparent that the chef never got my order. Disclosure: the young lady had to change the receipt after I paid so I'm sure thats where the confusion arose but I was still disappointed. Thankfully they made it on the fly & I waited maybe an additional 5-10min. Everything was flavorful although heavily seasoned. After a while it became a bit overpowering. I realize things like that are subjective so I encourage everyone to make their own call. I really enjoyed the mac n cheese, that was a highlight. Overall a solid meal and I'm glad I gave a try. With so many other excellent options I probably won't return.

I will give this place its credit the establishment as a entrepreneur selfmade restaurant is pretty dope , Reasons why I had to support this place. my friends and I ordered a huge take out order . I ordered the steak and cheese egg rolls and they were pretty tasty with a hint of spice to them . I am a foodie so I knew a meal or snack as such should come with a special sauce which it did once I asked does this meal come with a sauce ? The answer was " yes but we are all out " but what got me was that if I didn't ask I would've never known. So customers should definitely know small details like that . One of my friends stated the chicken was salty so beware . I didn't hear any complaints from my friends other than that so the food here is pretty good . Decor: okay Food: Good Prices: reasonable Customer service: could be worked on

So I've been here twice and I've ordered the same thing twice. Fried fish and Shrimp with mac n collards. The fish and shrimp is seasoned very well. Its fried to perfection, golden brown. The flavor profile has been consistent both visits. My sister couldn't not stop mentioning this place so I called in an order for our movie night. Always call your order in ahead of time unless you prefer to wait a good 25 to 30. I would like to try their philly cheesesteak egg rolls, crab legs and ribs ( it was the special for the day during my first visit). Portions are hearty, I always have left overs. Oh the cornbread!!!! Lawwwwdd. I found myself cutting little pieces just so it wouldn't finish. Cons: PARKING!!!! Try to have a passenger with you because this tight one way street has no space. Only cup cakes for dessert (one flavor, varies)...I need a banana pudding or a cobbler please oh and a potato salad. I thought it was a little pricey but they give a lot of food, as far as the fish and shrimp goes..but it was good and people pay for what they like period.

Jerk Chicken Pasta. Flavor was seriously lacking. Maybe they've gotten better at preparing this by now.

Ohhh Poe's Kitchen where do we start?! The counter girl sneaking sips of Dubra in plain view of the customers? On another occasion, another counter girl giving my food to the wrong person? The order taker on the phone telling me y'all only make steak well done? The typos on the menu? Lol. Welcome to Bridgeport, I guess. Shall we continue? Skip the jerk chicken pasta. That was my 1st meal here and it almost made me not return. They plated it well with nice presentation but the cream/alfredo sauce tasted like it came out of a jar that says "Bertolli" and it was not distributed well. Meaning, there were definitely some dry noodles in that take out container. Chicken was seasoned but nowhere near Jerk chicken. Go to Brooklyn if you want rasta pasta. The steak and shrimp redeemed them. The shrimp were fried nicely and seasoned with not too heavy of a batter. As I mentioned, the steak was prepared well done when I normally don't go past Medium, but it was fine. Sometimes people cook steak to Well Done to conceal poor quality cuts of meat. I couldn't tell what cut it was, but it had good marbling and wasn't overcooked. Medium Well would've been perfectly fine but I didn't feel the need to argue back & forth with the establishment making my food. The sides were good as well. Poe's Mac and Cheese is in my top 5 for CT restaurants and yams were sweet and not mushy. The cornbread was good also. I'll keep coming back, primarily to support a black business and for the tasty food, but also for the unexpected laughs!

Solid souls food option. If you like savory greens with red pepper flakes these are for you. Hubs had fried pork chops, baked macaroni and candied yams. He ate it too quick for a pic.

Got takeout- chicken was good and crispy, waffles were fresh but a little soggy by the time we got them home. Cornbread was bland, just as some other reviewers stated.

Mouth watering heaven!

Tear drops of joy to know the young men that own Poes Soul Food kitchen. As Calvin's 5th grade teacher at Mckinley School in the 80-90s, Im proud of their success! Teaching wasn't about the pay or Administrative obstacles I had to hurdle to ensure my students got a great education, it was about my vision. That vision being Calvin and his brother with Careers or Thriving Businessmen and Amazing Chef, Restaurant Owners and Productive Black Owners. However, if you desire flavor and mouth watering Soul Food, Please feast on an order of their Fish & Shrimp meal with Mac & cheese and sweet potatoes. And If your a pasta and steak lover then order the Pasta, Steak & Shrimp. This meal is outrageously, unimaginably and absolutely delicious. The seasonings are truly unique and flavorful. "It was Tear dropping pleasure to my tummy!" I'm proud of you both! Love and blessings, T. Corwell former Bpt Teacher!

Great food during Covid . Sometimes there's a wait but overall great food and portions . Lady on phone was a bit rude a few times but these past two times I've had good service we'll keep coming back .

Boss Pasta: crab meat, unpeeled shrimp, sausage, on penne pasta with a cheesy Alfredo sauce.
Mike M.

Orders the boss pasta, steak & cheese egg rolls, sides of collard greens and Mac & cheese. Got it thru uber eats, & too a little longer then original estimate, but it always does with that app. Besides, good food takes time to make, and it was good.

Fish dinner with Mac and collards. Baby bottle. Baby hand. Hehe

I thought the food in Harlem was amazing. This food was finger licking good. I guess the transition to CT won't be so bad after all
