I agree w/ the other low reviews on here. The only reason why I gave 2 stars instead of just one is because my son and I did indeed have a fun time the 2/4 classes we went to (3rd class I totally forgot about and 4th class I was tired from work). He was able to feed a goat, I milked the goat twice, and he was exposed to different animals such as chicken, roosters, horses, sheep and a pig. He also really liked "Chili dog", a little wiener dog that belongs to Cheryl. He sang songs and did a craft which we still have at home and he enjoys. It was cute seeing him enjoy interacting with other children and singing. HOWEVER when it came to the end of the class where he could go ride a horse, I felt very unsafe. They have the kids wear bike helmets, but they do NOT strap the children into the saddle. My son is only 2 years old and he is riding on a big horse rather than a small, slow pony. He got scared, which in turn scared the horse and the teenage volunteer didn't know what to do. Thankfully, Cheryl stepped in but it was clear that her teenage volunteers are NOT properly trained in handling horses. When I asked why the children aren't belted into the saddle, they gave a weird reason that I can't even recall and that was not satisfactory to me. So my son only going to half the classes I paid for is actually a blessing. For my son to experience animals and ride a horse, I feel much better bringing him to the Lakewood Eq Ctr where the ponies for his age are small and slow and the workers have proper training. read more

My daughter had a lesson here. She spent the full hour brushing the horse. She didn't even get to ride for 1 minute!!! I understand that kids should learn to do some grooming and saddling, but they should also get to ride a little bit. My daughter was devastated. Here is my honest review of Fun with horses. Signed my daughter up when she got all A' s on report card.I finally had I chance to go with my daughter to her riding lesson since the nanny has been taking her and I was horrified at what I saw. Let's start the list of everythin wrong with this place. First the helmets they pay/give you use to protect your head are bike helmets which is a major no no and if the say it different the are lying to you. Bike helmets can only handle what happens when you fall from or any bike related accidents or impacts. It will not protect you if a horse kicks you in the head(happened to my friend lucky she was wearing a horse helmet or she would be dead). Second the owner of the business Cherly, her horses are free with a lot of Fuc**** issues.Example the horses Jimmy and Teddy she denies them medication because it makes them behave really how would you feel being denied pain meds and required to do hard labor.Cheryl said that Jimmy would attack other horses and Teddy would be crow hopping(look it up) if they got their meds. Seriously I can name every issue for every last one of her horses has because my daughter rode them all. Third the girls she hires do not know how to teach riding lessons, know how to ride a horse personally, and are not professional but hey Cheryl is the same.The only person that Cheryl hired that has a lot of knowledge about horses was Ariel who I watched compete in the Equestrian Olympics and various horse shows for years before I got to meet her when I took my daughter to this palce. I was so upset when Ari quit but at least I found her after she left. The last but not least number Four is when you are first learning to ride a horse you start off on a lounge line to get you balance then a round pen to learn how to steer/control your horse. Fun with horses has you on a lead line where they control the horse from the ground like a pony ride for adults and kids. You might as well call this place a God awful merry go round to throw your money away because you will NEVER truly know how to ride. I honestly think all Cheryl saw was all the money she could make doing this and please don't get me started on Cheryl shoving her politics and religion down your throat. BTW this place has No customer service again the person who handle that was Ari and now she is gone. Also NEVER LET YOUR KIDS VOLUNTEER HERE. Cheryl will treat your kids like field hands and be ready when she is short on staff to walk your own kid or someone else's for free around the area. Cheryl likes her Free labour even though you payed for someone to do it if she is short staffed(which is always) you will have to do it even though you want to watch your kids lesson. All in all I say run far away from this place along with the other lesson place that is on the same property run by Danielle she is worse than Cheryl in every department. read more

This place is nasty and the person, who runs this place, Cheryl, is very unpleasant. My daughter spent 10 minutes waiting for them to acknowledge that we existed, 30 minutes brushing a really dirty horse, walked the horse in puddle of horse waste for 10 minutes, then she was allowed to ride the horse at the rate of, perhaps 1 mile per hour or less for 5 minutes... I wouldn't pay $5 for the experience. The "horse riding experience" is fraudulent. It should be labeled "horse cleaning experience." One good thing that came out of this is when we were done, my 10 years old told me she never wants to ride horses again... read more

Don't waste your money. Took my kids here with a living social deal. First off, it was almost impossible to schedule. You can only communicate via email. That's right you can't call to schedule. Secondly, they we're very disorganized and unenthusiastic. For a one hour lesson, the kids' instructors spent 20 minutes going back and forth looking for things they needed, 20 mins to get the horses and put the saddles on, then 15 mins brushing the horses, and finally 5 mins riding. I got a groupon and I advise people not to get it!!! They state this as a riding adventure which is completely false!! We got 3 individual tickets and all we did was groom the horse for like 30mins and actually got on the horse for 15mins. We expected to go on a trail but instead we went in a circle in their arena. I have went to other companies where my experience was much better then this and I am very disappointed with this company. The only reason I gave it 2 star is because the staff was nice BUT for the owner, Cheryl, in the other hand was horrible in returning calls. This place is not SAFE! My daughter has been taking lesson here on and off or about a year. Totally unorganized the owner Cheryl has teenage girls with minimal experience as "trainers". We had our LAST lesson today. After 30 minutes of the 60 minute lesson my 7 yr old daughter was finally on a pony. There were 8 other horses and ponies in the ring. Way too many!!! One girl about 10 years old was on a horse no lead line no " trainer" near her. She got way too close to my daughter and pony spooked the pony and my daughter fell off. Thank God she was ok. I told Cheryl there were way too many horses and ponies together which don't get along and young new riders. Her response was she has had 15 horses in the ring Really?????how can that be safe?? She is making money and sacrificing safety. Don't ever go to her facility!!! read more

My 5 year old and 3 year old girls participated in the "Fun on the farm" class this past summer. They had the time of their lives. The class consisted of milking a goat, feeding the horses, grooming the horses, craft time and of course, riding a small horse. You get a lot of bang for your buck. Just looking at other reviews and thought I should put in my 2 cents.....When our girls rode Ebony, we walked alongside the horse and held onto them through the duration of the ride. It made sense to us that if the horse got jumpy, we could immediately pull them from the horse. You would not be able to do that if a child was strapped to the horse. However, Sterling and Ebony were very gentle and slow horses anyway. I hope this little story helps: Halfway through her first ride, my 5 year old became very apprehensive and you better believe that horse sensed it. The horse basically stopped and waited for her to settle down. Instead of the usual crying, my little munchkin listened to the trainer who told her to sit tall and look straight ahead. The horse felt the change and continued the ride. It was a great "aha" moment for my daughter who can sometimes be emotional. I honestly think it helped her to control her anxiety in a constructive way. After that experience, it became very clear to me why horses would be used for therapy. read more

I bought a groupon which is what brought me here but I am so glad I did! Sheryl and Maria were so kind and so helpful. To the people complaining about how they had to brush "dirty horses"...for "such and such amount of their ride time". Why don't you learn something about horses first before you come down to ride horses! The brushing is done to not only groom the animal but for the horse to learn to trust you and to ease your fear of the horse as well. If you want to ride a horse you should probably learn to respect the animal first. Brushing the horse was probably my favorite part! This place is great. I purchased a groupon off of Amazon for my daughter. She received perfect grades on her report card and this was to be her reward. I emailed the company and the responses were far and few between. I was asked if I could come in on Wednesday during the holiday break. I scheduled a vacation day and planned on going. I was awaiting the time and any instructions or information but received nothing. I left three messages for them with no response whatsoever. I then sent an email explaining that I had taken a day off and never heard back from anyone. I did not receive an apology but days later and email asking my daughters name. That was it. I went to Fun with Horses for a private lesson today, I got a Living Social deal. I went with a friend, and we both have our own instructor for private lesson. Even though we were late, they were able to fit us in. They do take care of their horses, and they also have chickens running around, a cat named Peanut, and a cute dachshund mix dog name Lily, which I love to see that the animals are being well taking care of. For a one hour lesson, they spend 30 minutes teaching you how to brush and put the saddle on the horse, then 30minutes of riding. My instructor was Katie, she has been riding since the age of 3, we used her horse, Nemo, for my lesson. I can see that Nemo is very happy, kinda a gooft horse! Katie also loves Nemo, always taking to him. :) I was actually expecting of being able to actually riding the horse on my own, the whole time, my trainer was walking and guiding with a halter. I was a bit disappointed. Otherwise, it's a good experience. read more

I had my daughter's birthday with Cheryl's crew and was very pleased with them The staff was very organized and planned many activities. They really do a great job keeping the children entertained. My daughter loved being able to ride a horse on a nice big track and the other children enjoyed milking a cow and visiting other farm animals. The birthday party facilities are also very spacious and we were able to enjoy the day with all our family and friends. If you are looking for something different for your little cowgirl or cowboy, this is a great option. read more

Vender: "Have Fun With Horses" operated by Cheryl I had an awful experience with this vendor today. Cheryl knew ahead of time there was a better than 50% chance of rain at her location in Anaheim, CA (I saw 70% on weather.com, she says 60%), and she chose not to warn me ahead of time that her horse riding lesson is cancelled in the event of rain. Where I come from all the stables have covered riding arenas, and I was surprised today to discover hers does not. I even emailed her the night before asking what would happen in the event of rain and mentioned there was a 70% chance for it, but did not receive a reply. It was raining when I woke up in Los Angeles, it was raining when I left home, and it continued raining the entire hour it took for me to drive to her location in Anaheim. After I'd already made it to Ahaheim her assistant called 37 minutes before the lesson was to start that they were cancelling. My four friends had already arrived. It's perfectly reasonable to cancel a riding lesson if it is raining and the lesson was to be held in an uncovered riding arena. What's not reasonable is letting people find out there is a risk of this after they've already driven an hour to reach the location. Hers is the first weather dependent business I've encountered that doesn't deem it necessary to warn its customers its services are weather dependent. I really wish she would have allowed me to decide for myself whether or not to waste two hours of round trip driving time on the 30% chance it wouldn't rain. Instead, she decided for me, and I feel robbed. I would rather not do business with this person again. read more

Let me start by saying that I 100% do NOT recommend that anybody come to this place. If you're reading these reviews, please take notice of the ones that are bad rather than the good ones; and also of the fact that most of these are old reviews. The bad ones speak volumes of what this place is truly like. The first complaint I have of this place is the horses. I am an avid horse lover and owner, having taken care of them much of my life. The horses here are the sweetest, probably most forgiving horses I have seen in a long time but it is very clear they are severely over-worked, underfed, and lame. Sheryl (the owner) herself has stated that all the horses are "old, and lame in someway. But I got them for free so I use them." It breaks my heart to see skinny, limping horses lugging around kids for entertainment (seeing as I can't really call it education at this place). It's clear she would much rather be cheap and use old horses that are deserving of retirement, rather than using the money she gets- which is a lot per person I might add -to purchase sound horses that are capable of their work. I have nothing against the horses to be clear, I just wish they weren't so overused and ill-taken care of. The instructors, if you wish to call them that, are clearly untrained in teaching any type of equestrianism. From what I saw, most of them were probably no older than 25; except there was one older lady teaching and she was very rude, and harsh to the children she was instructing. In my past experience all riding instructors should be qualified with a certificate from some institution - the only experience any of them had was just their own lesson experiences in the past, and the riding they claimed to have done. But I don't hold that against them. I do however blame Sheryl (the owner). She hires some of these girls who she has taught lessons because her other staff are too full of lessons for the younger kids. I just feel its completely unsafe to have an inexperienced child leading my own children around! As for the owner herself, she is quite something to deal with. She is almost impossible to get ahold of and if you do she has a tendency to "forget" what day you scheduled and then brush you off like you were the one who made the mistake. It's clear she jams as many people in her classes/lessons in a day as she can to make money. She is very rude and pushes her beliefs in your face, talking behind your back if you don't believe or agree with her! She is very unprofessional in the way she talks to us parents; she talks about her religious beliefs (it is not branded as having any type of religious affiliation), her political beliefs, her medical problems, other clients/her own family personal matters, and a multitude of other things that are definitely not involved in learning about horses. She yells often at staff and even kids if they are doing something wrong. They're kids! They're learning, and the best way to teach them is not to yell and scream. As for her horse experience, it seems very old fashioned and harsh on horses. If you're coming for a lesson here I can tell you that you should expect 15-20 minutes of getting and grooming your horse (up to 30 if the staff are crowded, which is common). Then 10 minutes saddling before you get maybe 20 minutes, if you're lucky, of "riding" before you get off then unsaddle and put your horse away. Don't get me wrong, if you are getting into horses you should learn grooming and tacking, however when you pay for an hour and get 15 minutes of being led around in an arena being taught the same things you've been taught for several lessons already, it's a clear ripoff. And when you're in the arena the instructors are typically screaming over each other or across the arena to get your child's attention. There are typically too many horses in the arena as well, causing safety concerns. Please look into better places if you really, truly want your child to have a good experience with horses and learning about real equestrianism. I will definitely find another place to take my children as this place was an awful experience for my family. read more

We did a field trip for my preschool classes and Cheryl and her staff were great!! Very patient and friendly. Everything went smooth for both classes and the children LOVED it. Cheryl is very hands on and her passion shows. It is obvious that she loves working with both people and animals. I even got some bonding time with my horse until I felt comfortable with him. I bought a google offer for me and my fiance to have a private intro lesson. We have both had very little riding experience. We both loved our instructors as they were helpful and very nice. We spent about half the time learning how to brush, saddle the horse and clean their hoofs and 30 mins riding around the pen and once around the stable. It was fun and educational. I want to go back for more lessons (and I loved my horse Freckles). My only complaint would be I didn't get enough time alone on the horse and spent too much time off the horse, but I understand they have a lot of beginners and don't want to chance any mishaps. read more

Even though I have ridden before, I jumped onto the Living Social deal just to get another chance to ride a different horse at a different stable. This was a FUN lesson for me that gave me a chance to practice what I already knew, on a different horse, and gain some good advice from the instructor (Cami). I had a very enjoyable experience and the horse I rode was so responsive. He understood the subtle cues I gave him and would walk/trot/lope. The only issue I had was when I was the one giving mixed signals, and that's on me, not the horse....lol. read more

This was my first time riding a horse so it was fun to learn the logistics. I wasn't expecting to brush the horse or learn how to put the saddle on, but it was good to know! Absolutely wonderful experience! A great exposure to horses, how to care for them and lots of riding time. My 4 and 6 year old had a great time because the one-on-one lesson was individualized for their skills. My four year old was learning the basics while my six year old was learning how to balance, turn the horse and stand in the stirrups. This location also has other farm animals and we spent time before and after the lesson enjoying the whole farm experience. While we were there teens, adults and children with special needs were also getting lessons with the same experience. I highly recommend this for young and old, special needs children--everyone. read more

Today we had my son's birthday with Fun with Horses and it was great! The kids all had such a great time and loved getting to ride the horses as well as learn about some of the other animals there. The staff was great with the kids and took care of everything while I got to sit back and take pictures. The kids rode horses, milked the cow, played games, made a craft, and fed the animals. I have not ever been to this stables. After reading all these reviews I wish to say something from someone that has giving many riding lessons and worked at many rental stables. I feel that many of these reviews are coming from "city slickers". If you wanted a horse just to ride then maybe finding a rental stables would had been a better choice. A ridding lesson however is not just about jumping onto an animal without any knowledge about it first. Ground work is one of the very important stages of a riding lesson. I do not condone anyone being rude to me or anyone else for that matter. As I said I have not been there so I can not place an opinion on it. read more

I recently took my daughter to this place, and I am very pleased with the experience; it was her first time not only riding but just being close to one, so I really liked that she got to learn how to groom, saddle, lead the horse and of course how to ride.
