Buying a medium sized container of feed was more than enough, IMHO. Visitors are required to feed only the goats & sheep from the other side of the enclosure. Without feed, visitors can enter the closure & pet/brush the animals. Besides the goats & sheep, there are 2 pigs, chickens, and in a separate enclosure, emus & a cow. No access allowed to those, however. Pony rides are an option for little kids. The ride is around an oval track. There is also a playground area to burn up some energy. A few handwashing stations on premises to stay hygienic during your visit. Barnyard Buddies is an accessible nearby barnyard experience. I was lucky enough to grow up around chickens, so I'm not new to livestock. It's my firm belief kids should be around animals, and know where their food comes from, whether it be eggs, milk and/or meat. While not a place I'd recommend traveling large distances to visit, for those nearby or whom happen to be in the area, Barnyard Buddies is a wonderful opportunity to feed enthusiastically hungry goats & sheep, and brush plump piggies. We did the easy route for the sake of getting our steps in & somehow, it led us to castlewood trail on the other side. We completed 3.5 miles round trip. There were no shades so wear a hat & sunblock. Luckily, the weather wasn't so hot yesterday. I definitely want to try the other route next time!

Last week, Trish said she would let me know if they were having lessons today due to construction: Me: "With the construction going on, [my kid] would be very happy doing a trail next week if conditions permit. She loves them! And I'll wait to hear back from you about purchasing for June and July." When I never heard from her, I texted her 2 hours before the 10:00 lesson and let her know we could either go today or next week, if today was unavailable due to construction. Trish did not reply until 10:15, with a blatant lie: "No, I will always cancel. There is a Trail Ride today and Alexa is on the schedule. I will always message you to cancel." This women has never texted me or notified me of a cancellation. She essentially stole $85 from me and lost my business. Such a disappointment. Note that all of the 1-star reviews noted similar problems: being charged for lessons that don't take place due to poor communication, and a terrible attitude from the owner. My adult daughter and I had our first lesson with her today and I cannot say enough great things about her. She has the experience, knowledge, and ability to teach you, your kids, or anyone how to ride correctly so that you are confident in the saddle. She also shows you how to groom and tack up (saddle) your horse which increases your confidence around horses. She is definitely safety first, has incredible patience, no judgment, and is a lovely and friendly person. Everything you could possibly want in a riding instructor. I have ridden a fair amount over the years but haven't been on a horse in several years. I wanted to improve my form and technique while getting back into riding. Dede was the perfect choice to get started again. My daughter and I took a lesson together (great bonding experience, parents!) Very helpful to eavesdrop on the tips she was giving each of us while we were in the arena. There is also the option of doing trail rides while we learn which we'll definitely take advantage of as we progress. Who knew there were gorgeous trails right off the 605/60 freeways?!?!? Dede has a number of beautiful, well-trained horses to suit every rider and their ability. The Whittier Narrows Equestrian Center is a large and lovely facility, well maintained, with easy access off the 605, and immediate access to riding trails. With summer vacation on the horizon, Urban Horseman is the ideal source for riding lessons, horsemanship camps for kids, individual (or perhaps small group/friends lessons), or parent/kid time together. Reasonable rates for quality instruction. You will absolutely get your money's worth at Urban Horseman and have a fantastic time learning or improving your riding skills. Take that 5-star rating I gave Urban Horseman and double it. Can't wait to go back for more!

If you're genuinely interested in learning how to ride -- English Discipline, Western Discipline -- Reign Equine is a great place to start! One instructor competed on the intercollegiate circuit and can talk to your college bound equestrian about opportunities to explore. With regard to previous posters, it's important to remember Reign Equine is a business.
