I used to come here as a kid, the "teachers" are very nice. You get to go on field trips. And get to play video games the last I went.

We have been becoming increasingly outdoorsy and adventurous, and thought it was time to learn more…read moreabout outdoor survival in case things one day go awry. We took the core survival class, and found it to be very useful. Many of the essential components of surviving in the wild are counterintuitive, especially based off of pre-conceptions we have learned from movies and TV shows about wilderness survival. We are now much better prepared because of the knowledge we gained through this class. I won't give any spoilers cause that would ruin the experience- but on top of basic survival priorities, we learned how to build shelters, purify water, best react to dangerous animals, build fire, and even identify some plants. I also learned that I am kind of a pansy and really don't want to get lost in the wild. I would definitely recommend wearing long pants and long sleeves due to some of the tasks required during the training. Don't be like the girl that came (loudly pronouncing that she was) super hungover, wearing a super deep v neck and no bra (come on man- save it for Burning Man), because you are going to have to actually do stuff. This is a hands-on course, not a powerpoint presentation. Overall, would highly recommend this course for adventurers wanting to better learn how to be safe in the wild.

She asked if there was classes for survival. Luckily I found California Survival School. We were fortunate to have Dan as the instructor. He background is quite extensive and impressive. He was very knowledgeable and helpful. Although I thought my seven year old would get bored with the lecture portion, Dan kept the group engaged throughout. The hand on activities were our favorite, like building a tend properly. Both my daughter and I enjoyed the class and learned essential skills that can be used in everyday situations. Highly recommend the class for any age.

The dedicated staff provides intentional, personalized instruction in small class settings, ensuring each student's individual needs are met. The engaging, challenging curriculum encourages students to think critically, explore new ideas, and develop a love of learning. The OLS Summer Program is also well organized, with academics in the morning and fun enrichment activities in the afternoon. Parents have the convenience of purchasing a school-provided lunch for a small fee, with options such as Panda Express, Subway, McDonald's, and Chipotle. OLS is a great choice for families looking for a supportive, engaging, and enriching learning environment year-round.

This summer, we learned that our daughter was disciplined by being made to stand against the wall as a "time out" for running around the center. This was never disclosed to us as part of the school's discipline policy, and we were not informed at the time it happened, we only found out because our daughter mentioned it. Even more concerning, our daughter told us another child was made to stand against the wall as well, and was reportedly told "who told you you could sit down" when he tried to sit. We don't know every detail of that second incident, but if true, it points to a culture of discipline that relies on humiliation and intimidation rather than positive guidance. We've reported this formally and are waiting on a response. A call was promised today (7/2/26) however, I have not received a call yet. Until we see real accountability and a change in disciplinary practices, we can't recommend this school anymore.

Teragi Academy

This review has been long overdue, and I'm so glad I finally had the chance to write it…read more About a year ago, I decided I wanted my boys to start jiu-jitsu. As a mom, I believe it's so important for children to learn basic self-defense not because I expect something bad to happen, but because I want them to have the confidence and skills to protect themselves if they ever need to. At first, my boys were nervous and intimidated. We visited a few schools before making a decision, but from the moment we walked into Teragi, we knew this place was different. Everyone made us feel like family. The professors and coaches are exceptional not only because of their experience and skill, but because they genuinely care about every child. They encourage, support, and meet each child where they are. I especially want to mention my youngest. Jiu-jitsu didn't come naturally to him at first, and he struggled to understand the techniques. The professors and coaches were incredibly patient and never made him feel like he was behind. They allowed him to learn at his own pace, and now it's amazing to see how much his confidence and skills have grown. That patience meant so much to our family. There's no pressure for kids to be the best. Every child learns differently, and the professors and coaches truly understand that. Since we homeschool, Teragi has become more than just a place to train. My boys have made wonderful friendships, and we've found an incredible community. I also have to mention how clean the academy is! It never has that old gym smell and is always welcoming. I've watched both of my boys grow not only physically, but mentally and emotionally. They're more confident, disciplined, and respectful. If you're on the fence about jiu-jitsu because you don't like the idea of your child being on the ground, I completely understand. I felt the same way. But the reality is that many real-life self-defense situations end up on the ground, and knowing what to do can make all the difference. Thank you, Teragi, for creating such an incredible environment for our children. We are so grateful to be part of the Teragi family, and I couldn't recommend this academy more.

The owners, professors, and coaches have cultivated a superb gym culture. This gym is safe, friendly, and supportive. The facility is modern and clean, and they've invested in a foam block subfloor beneath the mats for softer landings. As far as I know, this is the only gym in the area that offers women-only classes four times per week and a bi-monthly community open mat for gentlemen 40 years and older. My kids train here after school 4-5 days a week, and they love it. The kids' professors and coaches are experienced and amazing teachers. I'm especially thankful for the young coaches who were so patient and kind to my boys when they were hesitant and shy after first starting. And my pocketbook is especially thankful for the discounted rates for additional family members. If you're looking for a place where the whole family can train, grow, and feel welcome, I can't recommend Teragi highly enough.

You can tell that everyone who works here truly love what they do and cares about every person who walks through their doors. From…read morethe moment I walked in, I knew this was a place that truly prioritizes the growth and academic excellence of each student. The teachers are incredibly attentive, taking the time to understand the unique needs and strengths of every student. Their passion for teaching is so evident, and they go above and beyond to make learning fun, engaging, and meaningful. My 1st grader misses his teacher Ms. Emily when either one of them miss a day. It's clear that the center is dedicated to fostering a deep understanding of the subjects they cover, rather than just rote memorization. My child has not only improved academically but has also developed a deeper love of learning. One of the things that stands out the most is the supportive and focused atmosphere. The other children in attendance are equally driven and committed to their studies, which creates a positive, motivating environment. It's a space where kids feel comfortable asking questions, collaborating with peers, and doing their very best. Best Learning Center has truly made a difference in my child's academic journey, and I couldn't be more grateful! I highly recommend it to any parent looking for a nurturing, effective after-school program. Special Notes- 1. They are open on additional non-school days (sometimes). 2. They are open until 6pm which helps with my long commute. 3. They have transportation, but are also very close to Arovista Elementary. 4. They match school hours, even early release Wednesdays. 5. I might ding 1/2 a star for too much candy but that's just me!
