We are a returning family and had a great experience last summer, which is why this was so disappointing. This summer, we learned that our daughter was disciplined by being made to stand against the wall as a "time out" for running around the center. This was never disclosed to us as part of the school's discipline policy, and we were not informed at the time it happened, we only found out because our daughter mentioned it. Even more concerning, our daughter told us another child was made to stand against the wall as well, and was reportedly told "who told you you could sit down" when he tried to sit. We don't know every detail of that second incident, but if true, it points to a culture of discipline that relies on humiliation and intimidation rather than positive guidance. We've reported this formally and are waiting on a response. A call was promised today (7/2/26) however, I have not received a call yet. Until we see real accountability and a change in disciplinary practices, we can't recommend this school anymore. read more

They have a structured program with activities and I really wanted her to work on math which they do. I am really enjoying this after school program for my 1st grader. Miss. Z is an amazing teacher and really patient with my daughter. I appreciate the school having flexibility with my schedule, so I can change the days she attends/not attends. On Fridays, they have art or coding class which always seems like a hit with my daughter. They also offer piano which seems like a popular class. As for homework, the teacher checks her homework folder and really explains the assignments. I highly recommend Optimus! read more

This review is actually long over due. I started putting my oldest daughter in Optimus for their summer program back in 2018. She really enjoyed Optimus and so did we. We continued with Optimus since then with my second daughter. My husband and I work long hours and appreciate that Optimus has after school pick up services. They do homework help and also have different tutoring help for the kids. We have used probably most of their services from time to time and I find it has been very beneficial for both my daughters. Even during the tough unprecedented time with COVID, when times were difficult for all, Optimus was and has always been very accommodating with the students and parents. It was the most miserable place of my life. The teachers don't do anything to help you. If somebody bullies you, YOU get in trouble and everything is horrible there. Some of the teachers are even racist ONLY towards you. If you get sent into the office, you sit in there for hours without doing homework and once your in there there is an 90% chance you wont be able to finish your homework that day. I had to stare outside an window for 30 minutes for no reason. You can even get sent there if you unbuckle your seat belt WHEN THEY ARE PARKING which is completely unnecessary and is the worst place so do not sent your kid here. If you are late to their van even for a minute, well congrats you earned an trip to the office. Summer camp is even worst for you do nothing fun. read more

Update: not sure if this will link up to my previous 2 reviews but I wanted to provide an update for going back to full time schools this year. Optimus is still my after school program of choice. The girls have been coming to Optimus for 4 years now. My older daughter is in Jr High but my 6th grader is still at Optimus. The program grows with the child. The older children are offered guidance when needed but are left to their own time management to get homework done vs the procedures used when the kids were much younger. They still prioritize academics and provide a quiet environment to get work done. The teachers are educated and can help with any subject matter. They still have their rigid pick up schedule to ensure the hourly homework time is not disrupted by students leaving. Ms Melissa is on top of everything and she is wonderful to work with. Mr. Hwang is a professional and the children's well being is priority #1. read more

My wife and I were first introduced to Optimus when we enrolled our daughter into their Summer program, a month before she was scheduled to begin Kindergarten. Up until that point, our daughter had spent 3+ years at a home daycare, where they were very nurturing and protective. The idea of sending our 5 year old firstborn to Optimus, or any Summer program, was pretty nerve-racking, especially having spent the early years at a small daycare. After many visits to various Summer programs and afterschool programs in the Brea/Placencia/Fullerton/Yorba Linda area, we made the decision to give Optimus the final go. What pushed us over the edge was encouragement from our friends who had been sending their kids to Optimus for years. They all had wonderful things to say about them. Admittedly, our daughter has never been good with change. When we first decided to send her to daycare when she was 18 months old, she cried at dropoffs for over 3 months straight. We were terrified that she would go through the same thing with this change to Optimus. Thankfully, she adjusted incredibly well, likely due to the fact that several of her daycare friends joined her at Optimus too, but also because the teachers were great and she made new friends quickly, the latter of which was a surprise to us. At the end of each day, during pickups, she would tell us how much she enjoyed the activities and teachers. She especially enjoyed coding, which was taught every Friday. She liked the Summer program so much that we decided to enroll her in the afterschool program. They pick her up every day, update us on the phone app when this happens, and make it worry free as the elementary schools have so many minimum day schedules. It's been four months since she's been in the afterschool program, and it's been a huge help for my wife and I as Optimus helps her complete her homework assignments, both written and online. As working parents, this is so helpful because we simply don't have the time to help do homework with extracurricular activities 3 nights a week. She likes all her teachers and they have been great with communicating anything they want to share with us. One concern we had about Optimus was the fact that they don't have a playground. Many of the other afterschool programs had playgrounds, and that was concerning as we were afraid she would feel trapped indoors for half her days - she arrives at Optimus at 11:45 a.m. and we pick her up at 4:50 p.m. five days a week. But surprisingly, with the variety of activities, lessons, and breaks, our daughter truly enjoys being there. There are even days when we try to pick her up at 2;50 or 3:50, and she would tell us, "you can pick me up later if you want." That seems to be the best confirmation that she's happy there, which makes us happy. read more

Went for a tour and it was very cold and stale inside, was not greeted right away even though a man in the back office saw me waiting. I literally had to call from the front desk (that no one was at) to have someone come to the front. Mind you a man was watching me the whole time and never said anything to me or anyone else. I asked questions about the pick up policy and some of the issues raised in the reviews and the lady acted like she had no idea they have some flaws to work out. I came later in the day and the remaining kids were hanging off chairs huddled in one room watching a movie. I have experienced with other few Afterschool programs.. Optimus is the best out of all the places I chose before. It is really clean I guess they work hard to keep it clean. I am very pleased with the program. My son has been attending Optimus since last Summer and enjoys it. In the monthly tution it includes pick up from school to Optimus, they help with making sure that homework is completed on a daily basis, offer extra curricular activities such as dance, tkd, gymnastics, and foreign language. They are pretty much open except for major holidays, open for spring and winter breaks which is great for a working parent like myself. Though they focus on academics, they do allow the kids to have free time, and make time to play. Mr. Danny and Ms. Caroline have been so great with helping my son with his homework. They make sure it is done correctly. Ms. Melissa and Mr. Hwang are so responsive with any questions I have. Mr. Hwang keeps the ratio 10:1 so the kids are attended to. My younger one has made such a great progress in reading that I really think all credits go to Optimus! My younger one did not like to read a year ago. My daughter has been with Optimus for a couple of month now. She is still 1st grade but I had worried about her reading skills since School started. It was a blessing that I found this afterschool program! When I moved to Brea from Diamond Bar, my biggest concern was transitioning to a new school and a new afterschool for my 1st grader, who is a shy boy. While I was looking around the Brea area for an afterschool program, a friend of mine who also has a 1st grader introduced me to Optimus Learning School. After I talked to the director, I decided to send my son here. I can tell as a mom that the director loves kids and respects parents' time and needs! I believe that's one of the reasons why Optimus has so many wonderful teachers. Now, my son enjoys being at Optimus, and is super excited for art class every Friday (no extra charge for the art class!!!). I'm planning to enroll my son in piano class and Taekwondo class soon. I am so happy that Optimus offers those classes because now I don't have to drive my son to the different places to learn piano or Taekwondo. (The director told me that Taekwondo class will start after summer!) Lastly, the tuition is very reasonable! It costs $500/month and it includes all the days that school is closed, art class, etc. Before, when on days when my son didn't have school, I always had to find a place for him because my husband and I have to work. Now with Optimus, I don't have to worry about that anymore because Optimus is open! I'll definitely enroll my second child when she goes to kindergarten next year! By the way, they recently developed an APP where I can check what time my son gets picked up, check who picked up my son, see his class schedule, and read any comments his teacher warote! I can even check what books he has read and is reading and what score he got after he finishes his homework! What a service! read more
