We came to Brea about six months ago. My children(8th and 2nd grader) had barely learned English in Korea and were literally dumped into the unfamiliar surroundings of English. It is very hard on my children to adapt themselves to a whole new language environment. In order to overcome the difficulty from English, they passed through a few English language institutes which were inefficient in both expense and performance. Finally, we came to Optimus by the recommendation of a trusted friend(All of his children also went or go to Optimus) While going to Optimus, my children have adjusted to their school and life in America. During the time in Optimus(from end of the school day until around six p.m) my children do their homework by themselves under the help of Optimus teachers who are in charge of each subject. They also read books that are fit for their level and discuss the issues to improve their thinking ability in English through Book-Club. Each class consists of less than four students and therefore the class can proceed with concentration. Through the process, teachers and students build a close relationship. My older son is weak in science. To make up for that, when needed the teacher who helps with that subject volunteers to open the class even on weekends. As you see in this case, the teachers of Optimus have a strong sense of responsibility and passion for teaching and good experiences. My 2nd grader, my younger son, entered school not knowing even the alphabet therefore, his school teacher was very concerned. He has been taking a one hour private class every school day. He is getting much improvement and many compliments from his school teacher now and also has been doing well in school after 4 months at Optimus. Younger students get to socialize and play together also, which is another important merit. The tuition of Optimus, above all things, is very reasonable and relatively cheap considering care and teaching time. I really agree with the policy of Optimus. It is that students have to grow their own power of reading, thinking, and writing by themselves. Of course, in English. Teachers help students to do it efficiently. Recently, Otimus opened the courses for adults. I have been taking ESL class in Optmus since this January actually. Each language class in Optimus consists of around 4 people, unlike other big language institutes. This means very dense and intimate classes. An intimate class of a small number of people is a very big merit that is not supported by big language institute. In addition to that, I think the tuition is very reasonable. Attended it for 1.5 years already and my english has, highly, improved since then. On top of that, I rocked my AP calculus exam by being placed in calculus 3 college level!!!! It offers the best service, with well prepared and trained teachers. What's more important, is the help that you receive from an amazing staff, in any moment. This school is also placed in a convenient, quiet, and very beautiful area; far away from the noise distractions (in case you are a person like me who gets easily distracted by the surroundings). My kids have attended the summer program here last couple years & this past school year (2018-19) they were also part of their after school program. As a working mom, I appreciate the convenience of school pick up service, additional on-site lesson options (eg. piano lessons) and coverage on minimum days / no school days. Teachers are attentive and seems like students are getting enough individual attention. Not only making sure children complete their daily HW correctly, they also have accommodated specific needs when my children required extra review in certain areas. LOVE this program and the staff! This is one of the very rare situations I wish yelp had more than 5 stars to give. OLS is amazing, starting from the top with the director to all the teachers. I am a full time working mom of 3 children (5, 7, and 9 yrs) and had a devastating experience with the BOUSD afterschool program, where my 5-yr-old managed to leave the school campus unnoticed and walked home by himself. The school district took zero accountability and I was determined to find a program that not only met my safety requirements, but also academic support for my fourth grader and also a program that would be able to pick up my kids from school and accommodate my work schedule. I was asking for A LOT and thought I may have to compromise. The director promised me the kids would be safe, the school will be open on days the schools district is closed, will be picked up on time, the kids will thrive academically, and that my kids will be happy. He has kept every commitment and my kids are happier and are growing more academically and socially. There is not more fighting in the evenings in trying to get my children to finish homework thanks to OLS. Not only is their homework done, it's done correctly. And whatever my children have a difficult time with, they come home understanding why they initially didn't understand it. We are able now use our evenings to talk about the day and enjoy each other as a family. OLS is operated effectively and efficiently to optimally enhance the experience for both the parents and students. The director is the parents' direct communication link. Every comment, request, and criticism has always been welcomed and implemented with no excuse, explanation, or anything other than to foster the best interest of each of my children's learning growth. My nephew goes to this place twice a week. He does really well in math at school. It is actually too easy for him now, so his parents signed him up for two math programs here called Math Counts and Math Kangaroo so that he could be in the math competition. My daughter has been with Optimus since the beginning of 4th grade. She needs help in math and writing. Now, she is in 6th and doing well in both subjects. Optimus helped her to build the foundation in math, that is important. Her reading comprehension has improved significantly and that helps her to do well in Common Core. But to all parents, don't expect your kid to do exceptionally well with straight A after a few month with Optimus. That is not possible !! Not possible for any school to do that. This is great Learning Environment full of activities and children ready and willing to learn. They do not accept exceed students in one class and trying to focus on every students individually. Optimus offers van pickup for many schools in the area, including Emery, Fisler, and Olinda depending on how many students are enrolled from each school. Call to find out if van pickup is available from other area schools. The facility is very safe and clean. and they started to offer Lunch with cost during summer vacation season. Every Fridays OLS offers additional instruction programs including Art, Computer Coding,Etc. The individual instruction time is extremely valuable for us working parents who already have very full schedules. It's hard to squeeze in an hour before bedtime to assist kids with homework, and something that a babysitter or day care is probably not going to do. The staff is experienced with kids of varying ages and abilities, and has been great for my daughter. Tuition rates are very reasonable. What truly set this place apart from others is director, Mr. Hwang, and how he runs the place. Mr. Hwang may seem stern and direct at first, but he is very professional and passionate about providing the highest quality care. He is very organized; literally everything is detailed on their website. Furthermore, there is a mobile App you can download from your phone for the convenience of us, busy parents to check on kiddo's progress and notifies when your kiddo has been pick up by the teacher, enabling parents to feel at peace. Optimus offers various extra curriculums, like piano, private tutor, at a reasonable price, which offers convenience to the parents. They have a good balance of academic and non-academic, with art included on Fridays. My daughter loves coming here and can't wait until Fridays for art, she loves her teachers and her peers. Thank you for providing such a quality after school program and your patience and speedy response in addressing all our concerns. I feel very blessed and fortunate to have found Optimus. My son started after school program at OLS since the school year started. Immediately we saw the big improvement on his homework. This was an issue for us at his previous school. His homework never got checked and he always had to redo it at home. At OLS, the teachers make sure he does it correctly. It is a big relief for us. My cousin took a SAT class here and it was just what he needed! He tried a few SAT programs in the past and he always got an amazing score on the math portion because he was already really good at math, but he really struggled on the critical reading section. He went to Optimus, where the teachers are bright and engaging, and where he could receive the one on one attention he needed to achieve the score he wanted on the critical reading section. My kids have been here for about a year. My child was struggling in math and ever since Optimus, we have seen a drastic improvement. The teachers/staff are very nice, professional and my kids have nothing but positive things to say about them. Their program is very convenient for working parents as they pick up your child after-school. It's nice how their homework is all finished when I pick them up. It's also great how they are open during non-major holidays or teacher prep-days when the kids don't have school. They recently developed an App which I think is very helpful, as it notifies me when my kids were picked up, calendar/activities, announcements, etc. The director, Marcus, is very good, professional, willing to help and responds back quickly whenever I have a question. My kids attended the summer camp last year and enjoyed it. There was a mix of academics and fun activities to do. My child went to Kumon before but I noticed they learned mostly from repetition and also didn't teach Common Core which they do at Optimus. For the past five months, my daughter has received math tutoring from Optimus Learning School. She attends a once-a-week private math lesson. When she first started, her scores in math were quite low, as was her confidence level. Since working with Optimus math tutors, she has passed all her math tests and was even bumped up to the second-highest math group in her grade. The first time I looked around the pictures taken, I saw camera looking in every direction possible, which made me feel uncomfortable if I was to walk in. From the review of my friends the teachers barely help him on his homework and spends time correcting other's homework while he has been waiting for a long time. The staff there are more direct towards little kid programs and are probability not able to help high school students on their work. When my friend told me his son said that a teacher doesn't know what an appositive phrase was, I was shocked. Even a kid knows more than an adult. Using common sense is not a thing that anyone at Optimus uses, especially the teachers. If I was ever there die sitting there for the teacher to correct every little step of facing a computer towards a teacher. Pretend like a teacher says face it towards a teacher. They never specified which teacher, but I am just a person who does that. read more

I enrolled my son into Optimus because his math class at school was just too easy and I felt he was not being challenged. He is currently in third grade but tested into the fifth grade math level after taking their placement test. This new math class was finally challenging for him and they even assigned homework every week. His teacher was amazing and you can tell he really enjoys math. This school focuses on small classes, so he only had one other student in his class. This gave my son a lot more one on one time with the teacher. My son loved his math class so much that we recently just enrolled him into Math Kangaroo in March. I will also look into AMC next. Moving our son from after school day care to Optimus is the best choice we've made. Our 10yr old was struggling with his homework and staying up very late to complete it. We heard about Optimus from my son classmate who use to attend the after school daycare and then switch to Optimus. He shared with us how Optimus offers pickup directly from the school and most importantly how they focus on home work where after school daycare does not. After a few months at Optimus we are seeing improvements with his homework, quizzes and test scores. Just recently my son got 2 A's on his math test (Thank you Miss Ojea) where prior to Optimus he had been struggling with C's and D's. The reason why Optimus makes a difference is because they are extremely focus on eduction.
