Terrible attitude and bad experience. We took lessons here for a little over a year. Twice we showed up and were not on the schedule, even though we pre-paid and confirmed with the owner, Trish. I pre-paid for 6 lessons several times. Last week, Trish said she would let me know if they were having lessons today due to construction: Me: "With the construction going on, [my kid] would be very happy doing a trail next week if conditions permit. She loves them! And I'll wait to hear back from you about purchasing for June and July." When I never heard from her, I texted her 2 hours before the 10:00 lesson and let her know we could either go today or next week, if today was unavailable due to construction. Trish did not reply until 10:15, with a blatant lie: "No, I will always cancel. There is a Trail Ride today and Alexa is on the schedule. I will always message you to cancel." This women has never texted me or notified me of a cancellation. She essentially stole $85 from me and lost my business. Such a disappointment. Note that all of the 1-star reviews noted similar problems: being charged for lessons that don't take place due to poor communication, and a terrible attitude from the owner. Took lessons here for roughly a month however when booking my last lesson there, the academy owner told me the lesson time that was available, but then right after sending the money told me the lesson was suddenly "full". I asked for her to switch my lesson time but never heard back. So I asked for my money back and text the owners daughter as well. Trish said she would get back to me on it but never did . Reached out another 3 times and after sending me really unprofessional and rude text messages, Trish refused to give me back my payment. Montana refused to respond as well. Trish even sent me a screenshot showing proof she did receive the money from me . Made a dispute with my bank to get my money back. This academy is a lot of drama. Very disrespectful and rude people. Very bad communication and no real follow up. Place is also pretty run down. No confirmation over a holiday weekend which resulted in asking us to pay for a lesson we never had. Trish then stopped responding to us for future lessons we had booked. We even referred friends for lessons and still not even a courtesy to say they didn't want to continue having my 6 year old do lessons. Very disappointing experience. We have since found a much better program elsewhere with wonderful practices in place! read more

So I had my first riding lesson in a while today with the Trish & her team. I was a bit nervous at first but they we're very through and took their time explaining everything that was going to happen step by step. When we we're out on the trail everything was relaxed and very professional. My instructor was awesome and never stopped encouraging or talking to me making sure I was comfortable at all times. I have had a few riding lessons in the past but believe me when I tell you the Trish & her staff have a First Class Operation. Look for the green gates! It was easy to schedule a trail ride for my daughter and her friends for her 12th birthday. Trish was flexible and accommodating when I called to schedule it. Amanda, who managed the event, was professional, knowledgeable, intuitive, and helpful. She chose the perfect horse for each rider. There were young helpers who helped with the saddle & stirrups for each horse & rider. Everyone was very nice! As I waited in the shade for the girls to return, I witnessed some very happy people who board their horses there. I could tell it's a great place for that too. It had been some time since we rode so for our Anniversary, we decided to go for a trail ride. After being disappointed with the service of another location we were ready to turn around and head home. We found OCRA and spoke with Trish who was very accommodating on such short notice. Later that afternoon we arrived and were greeted by Trish and her partner Bo. After signing the waiver, we were showed to our horses, Bella and Suerte. They were beauties who were so well mannered and well maintained. Bo led us on a lovely trail around the outskirts of the neighborhood , even through a small stream. He also was so kind to take photos of us throughout the journey. We had such a great time! Trish and Bo are fantastic people to ride with! They are funny and very easy-going. I brought a few beginner riders with me, and Trish helped them understand the basics of riding before we got on a trail. While on the trail, Bo gave us a lot of great information about the work they do at their riding academy and the philosophy behind their lessons. He also took pictures of us all along the way! This is by far the best experience I have ever had. The trail ride was an hour long and it had a lot of wonderful views. The instructor Jaynee did a wonderful job teaching and explaining everything. I'm use yelp and rely on others to help navigate my choices but reviewing myself? Eh. Until today! I had my daughter's 8th birthday party at OC Riding Academy today and it was a HUGE success. They handle all the setup including decorating (with their own decorations!), helped with unloading food, coolers, balloons, cake etc. We had 10 children and about the same number of adults. Owner plus 5 handlers worked our party- they were all fantastic. Children learned about safety, grooming, saddling, met all their beautiful horses, and rode in their arena for an hour plus. Each child had the opportunity to ride each of the 5 horses out for the party. Kids also had a blast with pig, Olivia, and chickens. Beautiful, well loved horses, great location, and up kept facility. The price was right!!! Best price of all I checked out considering it was a 3 hour party. The owner, Trish is very helpful, responsive and informative. She really makes you feel welcome and figures out exactly what your strengths and weaknesses are to help you become a better rider! Trisha and Bo really care about their guests and horses. You can feel it when you come on the property. Trisha is incredibly knowledgeable. She has been with horses all her life and she understands their physical and emotional needs. She is a barrel racing champion and yet she is gentle and positive with beginning riders. I rode forward seat over fences in the 1970's and started riding a couple years ago with Trisha who was very understanding and flexible with my unique needs.They have a lesson arena and beautiful trails. Horses fill me in a special way and Trisha was generous in letting me interact with her beloved equines. I have been busy in south county during the pandemic and haven't been back since Easter but look forward to resuming trail rides when my schedule allows. read more

Better than therapy!! I had riding lessons and rode as a child but decided after many years of not riding to take lessons. When I came to Orange County Riding Academy I had tried another riding school. I was looking for an experienced teacher and the opportunity to trail ride. (Many riding schools only teach in the arena) I found exactly what I was looking for. Trish the owner and professional riding teacher has helped me in the arena and on the trail to renew my confidence. Lessons are reasonably priced. I always feel I've gotten more than my money's worth. Trail rides in Orange Park Acres where OCRA is located are beautiful. Located close to Santiago Oaks Canyon park the rides feel like we've left the city. I highly recommend lessons or just an occasional trail ride. The family went on a Mother's Day trail ride and it was so fun. I've seen Trish working with the kids that come for lessons and she is equally great with them, including my 14 year old. My daughters Girl Scout troop went to OC Riding Academy this past Saturday for a trail ride and LOVED it! Trish was amazing to work with, we had to reschedule twice due to the rain/trail closures but we were able to make it happen. What a hidden gem tucked back into Orange Park Acres. What an excellent experience! We will definitely be going back for more training from Trish! I called last minute to see if Orange County Riding Academy could do a trail ride on Sunday for my Mom and 9 year old daughter. Trish was so accommodating getting them in last minute. The experience for my family was amazing. My daughter came home screaming, "I cantered!!!" She obviously learned a great deal of horsemanship in just a few short hours. The trail was scenic with creeks and lots of views. My mom was happy she was not stuck in a large group pf people and got to have a quiet and intimate experience. I just moved to the area, and took my son here for his first lesson. When we got there the owner Trish was 20 minutes late. Then the horse she put my son on just got done with a trail ride, and was covered in sweat! During the lesson she answered a phone call, and wasn't paying attention to him. Then she had him cantering, when he didn't know enough about horses yet. I used to ride when I was younger, and know that she did not practice correct safety. This place is absolutely dreadful. All of the horses were underweight, and Trish was not professional. I won't be coming back. read more

Trish, the owner, provided my visiting grandchildren with a phenomenal horseback ride experience! It was a first trail ride for my 6-year old granddaughter and second for my 10-year old grandson - both are hooked on horses now! She matched the horse temperament to the experience and age of the child, and I, myself, rode for the first time in 10 years. Trish is also very accommodating to the times we were available. I wish the grandkids were here longer or I would have signed them up for her summer horse camp. She really is passionate about working with kids and the caring of her animals.
