Facility is a great location and nice. Horses are well cared for. Le Cheval, Lauren, Olivia, Patty and everyone there are absolutely the best. Upper management is completely awful, unhelpful, rude and condescending. They act as if they hate their patrons and their jobs. Please just move on and sell to someone who will at least want to be here. Anytime you have to deal with them it is a complete nightmare. It's like they go out of their way to make anything as complicated and inconvenient as possible. Ruins the experience for sure. read more

I love boarding my horse at this facility. My home away from home! It is located securely within Irvine Park with direct access to wonderful trails. It is well maintained and the arenas have great footing! Management and staff are very friendly, with the horse's well being a top priority. The stalls are cleaned 7 days a week and any maintenance required is done promptly and professionally! Board includes quality hay fed twice a day. All of the trainers are talented, kind and always helpful. I especially love my trainer, Hayley Buckingham @HBE Dressage, who is an accomplished rider and a skilled trainer! pros: It's lovely. There is a lot of access to some great tools. Trail access is pretty fantastic. It's fairly spread out for it's size. Staff: 75 % are pretty awesome. Upper management /ownership is not in the 75%. Cons: 1. New owner seems to have encouraged the cliquishness that was previously kept at a much lower level. Aren't we all here to ride horses? 2. Nickel and dime increases in rent disguised as other items on rent invoices. 2b. No advertising for more renters. This place is no where near at capacity of horses. Might be at 50%. 3. Extra charges for basic stall maintenance. 4. Communication is not just bad. It is non-existent. 5. Changes are made without notice. ie: passwords for the gates were changed. On a busy holiday at the park, there is nowhere to park. Codes were changed and now no parking inside the center. Try carrying your feed or your saddle from the other side of the park. 6. Security: is a joke. Anyone with serious intent could WALK OUT with thousands in horse flesh. 7. I really just don't like being condescended to. No, I am not a big money client (clearly, because I rent here), but I should be treated the same as everyone else, no? Yes, I cannot afford to move. when I can, I'm out. read more

Agree with most of the reviews pre 2014 but would add/reiterate: PEC is located within Irvine Regional Park- which means 1) you have to have an annual OC Park Pass (not a big deal, but added cost) and 2) you have to deal with entry lines into the park, especially long mid day weekends and holidays, so something else to keep in mind... Recapping Pros: -Stalls are kept clean, box stalls have nice thick bed of shavings, it is the fine kind which I personally like as its easy to clean with less waste. -Grounds are clean, grooms/ maintenance crew seem very nice & responsive (They always reply when my daughter test out her spanish with them). -Several of the crew live on the property, though no first hand emergency need. -Gaits on property keep the general public out. -Plenty of shade to keep cool in the summer -Real bathroom available -Hot walker and round pens available -Variety of footing in arenas, so you can- in theory- ride where its best for you. -Miles & miles of trails for all levels! Recapping Cons: -Biggest pet peeve as Joanie mentioned- they will NOT GIVE you FEED when your horse is away/ traveling. This is ridiculous!!!! I pay for a service which explicitly states how much and how often my horse is fed yet if I go to a show or trail ride overnight I can't take feed with me nor will they feed my horse as though he's there- that feeder should be overflowing as far as I'm concerned! Its bad enough I have to pay to have additional feed given to keep my horses weight up, now I have to buy more feed if I want to enjoy my horse somewhere other than PEC. NEVER had that problem before at other places & can't believe they get away with it!!! -Then like Coco mentioned, you have to have have individual liability INSURANCE- I haven't run into this before unless its a new thing, but its a pain in the rear and again adds to the cost! -I personally feel you almost have to be associated WITH a TRAINER, the place is completely divided and the groups seem to keep to themselves, if your outside the group people will walk right past without acknowledging you. Its not a barn where you feel others are looking out for your horses best interest until you (hopefully) make friends with the owners around your horse, I feel more or less pushed to stay in my corner, and judged for everything I do or don't do! Arena's are assigned to trainers during peak lesson hours which limits options if your not with them and in general complaints seem to be brushed off without a trainer to back you up... -Trailer parking is limited and often appears as an obstacle course for those trying to get in or out- so you better know how to maneuver your rig forward/ backwards and sometimes sideways if you want to think about parking it on the property -Turn-outs are limited to 'sun' pens with room for a horse to roll, but NO ROOM TO RUN... so young horses are not allowed to be horses and kick up their heels in an arena 'because they'll hurt themselves' if more room is given. 2 stars because as Yelp defines it, 'Meh. I've experienced better' Wouldn't chose to board there without my trainer, I love the trails but the snotty people and nickel and dime feeling from management just ruins it for me! read more

I began boarding a month or two before the new owners came on board. I noticed a lot of changes, most seemed really for the better. The place looked cleaner and more orderly. The guys that clean the stalls are really nice and speak English very well. My problem is with the management and their rules that don't make sense. I pay extra for grass hay as my horse cannot have alfalfa cubes or straight alfalfa. My grass hay is charged on top of the regular feed (alfalfa cubes) which my horse can't eat (as he gets hot). Plus, I keep my trailer there (an additional $$). I trailer my horse out a lot - I go horse camping up north, so we were gone anywhere from 5 days to over 10 days. I asked if I could pick up my bale of grass hay and take it with me and they told me no. I'm like, what?! Really? Why not? I'm paying for it... That "if they did that for me, they would be expected to do that for others". What a crock of crap. Plus, they would not credit me for the hay either! What another crock of crap.( I used to board my horse in Palos Verdes and they didn't have any issue with that, and they have triple the amount of horses in their facility). They charge you for shavings but they use the cheap kind - which is like sawdust. The wind picks it up and its all over the place. After a couple of days, with the ranch hands cleaning the poop up, your shavings that you paid $8 bucks a bag for is gone. Aside from the hay and shavings,most of the trail riders are some nice. But just a few of the "arena" people are nice, People walk right by you without even acknowledging you or seeing you. Its wierd and very unfriendly. I don't get it. There are lots and lots (and LOTS) of peacocks everywhere...and there is a sign that says no dogs, but the management and privilaged trainers can bring their dogs. The place is perfect for trail riders but the place is geared more for the hunter/jumper horse people. If money is no object - then board here. Its a big shame as the stable is sitting right next to real miles of trails, no bridle path/behind homes type of trails. If you are a real people person, this might not be your stable....If you have to watch your pennies, this might not be a good place for you. I was paying over $500 for one horse in a 12x24, my trailer, grass hay and some shavings each month. Oh, and you cannot ride the trails if it rains. The park closes the trails. One star for not giving me my hay after I paid for it. And for not returning my deposit. read more

Peacock Hill Equestrian Center is one of the best boarding facilities in Orange County! I have boarded my horses at many different places over the years, but I will never leave this place. Everyone is welcoming and friendly, quickly becoming your second family. All the trainers get along and there is zero barn drama! Hunters, jumpers, dressage, and western - there is something for everyone here. And don't get me started on the jaw-dropping trails! The stalls are well maintained, and offer a range of stall types/prices for whatever fits your horse's needs. We have been at Peacock Hill Equestrian Centre for the last year and both us and our 3 horses absolutely love it.The grounds are well kept,the stalls are clean,our horses get fed 3times a day. The Management team and staff are very professional and supportive. I really like it here. Love the quiet atmosphere and the people are amazing! Everyone is so friendly here it's awesome. My horse has improved ever since moving here. Returned to PHEC due to the change in management. I was very excited because we had come to visit once we heard about the change, and the place looked great! Unfortunately, things are not always as they appear. So we moved back over the summer, because we figured it would be easier for my sister to take care of both horses while I am in NYC. The move went smoothly, and management was quite accommodating and the new trainers there are very friendly and helpful even if you don't train with them. They cater to the trainers even more than they used to, but I can completely understand that since the new trainer has brought in a lot of business for them. That being said, I was slightly disappointed to see the main arena was closed most of the time for the new trainer. But they put in a new dressage arena that was for public use, and the Country Trails arena had also been opened for public use when not used for summer camp or lessons. And then the jumping arena down at the bottom was also opening up. This meant that all in all, there was a choice of four arenas, which sounds pretty awesome. HOWEVER, we come to find out after just two weeks there that it was not so easy. Apparently ALL four of the arenas have special lesson times when regular boarders and riders aren't allowed in there. At least at any given time, one arena would be open to public use. The problem is that there is only one sign with lesson times for the main arena, and even that wasn't accurate. So half the time we were riding in the arenas and we were told we had to leave because it was reserved for lessons despite there not being any notices whatsoever. When we asked if we could receive a written schedule of lessons since my sister and my new lessee would need to know when and where they could ride, it turned into a hassle and we still haven't received a schedule as far as I know. Basically, I stopped wanting to ride because I hated being chased out of an arena, especially when it wasn't my fault that nobody put up notices of lesson times. I have terrible memory and I can't remember just because you tell me the lesson schedule for all four arenas, especially when it's all over the place! And then communication. Management does not communicate with each other or something. The biggest thing would be the leasing, because I had informed the owner before I even moved in that I planned to be leasing my horse out. Once we were in, I warned her I'd have people coming to see my horse, and if I needed anything for that as well as for when they started leasing; I was told they only needed a rider liability release form signed and that was it. Great, sounds simple! Then AFTER I'd signed a lease with my lessee did I receive an email from management stating that my lessee needed her own general liability insurance; I kindly told the manager that the owner did not tell me that, nor was it in the rules. This turned into a huge problem and eventually, a month later, they sent out a notice to all boarders that all lessees now required general liability insurance. Fortunately my lessee was very easygoing and was fine with it, although getting general liability insurance for horseback riding is not easy as we all came to find out, and the management wasn't very helpful in helping us coordinate what they wanted exactly. I ended up losing my second lessee because she was unable to get general liability insurance and it was all complicated, though I think that was more on my lessee's end than PHEC. But what made it all really bad was the attitude. Management gave us attitude about having more than one lessee, even though we TOLD them before moving in that that was the plan. If they didn't like it, they should have told us before we moved in. What was even worse was when my horse started to get lame. He has a history of lameness that has been well controlled with special shoes the past five years, and it wasn't until a few days after our move he got lame. I associated that with stress pacing in the new stall, and that after a shoe change and some bute he should be back to normal. Apparently management did not agree and insisted that we euthanize the horse because he was old and lame. He is 23-years old, and aside from the lameness that started after moving to PHEC, no problems! This is even before we consulted a veterinarian. Now working as a veterinary technician myself, it angers me to no end when people with no medical training whatsoever try to make medical recommendations...you are not qualified to do so, so DON'T! After my horse saw the farrier, the farrier said his lameness was just because his old shoes were bad and he'd be better after new shoes. DUH! That's what I'd been telling them! If I could move out, I really would. But I'm across the country now, and there's no other place that is convenient for my sister to take care of both horses. Guess we'll have to stick it out and hope for the best. read more

Our trainer brought her business here last March... We followed with pleasure. The facility is so warm and has a real inviting nature about it. The other boarders area always smiling and saying hello (I've boarded at two other facilities and this was not the case). Robin was amazing. Came by on horseback during our move in the chat and make sure all of our needs were being met. I haven't needed much (like I said the facility is well run and maintained) but when I have, my needs are met within a day. I'm a mom of 4 and just like finding a good school for your child finding a good boarding facility for your horse is vitally important. I found it here and with the best trainer I could ask for, Lauren Cirignano, my needs are completely met. read more

I have boarded at Peacock Hill Equestrian Center for about ten years. If you love trail riding, this is the place to be. There is access to three parks and all of them have restrooms, hitching posts and water troughs. There is a shopping center with a hitching post too. The stalls are kept clean and there is a variety of feed choices you can make for your horse. Lots of really fun, nice people have left, but then new nice people move in. There are trainers for every discipline and they are so helpful. There is almost always a farrier around and they will gladly put on a thrown shoe for you. If there is a broken pipe or anything it gets fixed right away. To top it all off, there are adorable peacocks everywhere and you can even bring your dog. read more

There are problems with this facility. While the setting is fantastic, boarding fees continue to rise while the service level goes down. Proper maintenance is not carried out. At other barns the cost of the footing is included in the basic board package while here you need to pay for it yourself which put me out thousands of Dollars.There is just one turn out in which you can leave your horse for only 40 minutes a day.There are lots of horses at this place and it is hard to find a turn out time. They have a couple of sun pens which are tiny. The management is uncommunicative when there are problems and leave people to fend for themselves. Horses feed varies a lot in quality and amount. We struggled for years even to get permission to take the hay we paid for to shows and forget about the bedding. I stayed there for 10 years so I know all about the pro's and the con's of this facility. Peacock management handles situations feeding different stories to different people. read more

I am not one to review things, but it has become so bad here that I felt I needed to make a review so that people know what is going on here. I have been a boarder at this facility for about 10 years. I do agree that the previous owner did not do a good job with maintenance of the property and that the new owner has done a great job with cleaning it up, but unless you have a ton of money and/or are a hunter/jumper or dressage rider, this is probably not the place for you. The new owners made the main arena a jumping arena, took out the turnout/extra arena, put in a dressage court, put in a couple small sun pens, and made the riding school arena open for use, but it cannot be used for turnout, cannot be used during lessons, and cannot be used at night (so when can you use it?), and the riding school arena has synthetic footing made from ground up tires and roof tiles that has injured some horses. There are a total of 5 arenas; 2 jumping arenas, 1 dressage arena, 1 riding school arena, and a "western arena" which you could hardly consider an arena. It is a small corner of the stables that is sectioned off that is full of western pleasure trail obstacles, and if you don't want to go over the obstacles, you have a tiny oval around the edge that you can ride in. The "turnouts" are small sun pens that aren't much bigger than the stalls. There is no where to turn out your horse where they can actually lope around, other than the round pens, in which there is a new rule that YOUR HORSE CANNOT ROLL BECAUSE IT RUINS THE FOOTING. Really?!?!?!?! Also, if you have to come at night due to work, there is not good lighting, especially in the round pens. Horses can be only lunged in the round pens, and if you have an elderly or injured horse, there is no safe place to get your horse out at night because you cannot see the footing, other than the main arena with all the jumping obstacles. The owner also does not have good people skills and if you come to her with a complaint and or concern, she is very dismissive and takes no responsibility for anything, even if the problem is the stables' or its employees' fault. (I am sure this would be different if you were one of her higher end boarders). Horses have been hurt due to falling roofs, bad footing, and so forth, and horses have been feed the wrong food and some have been completely skipped at feedings! Also, most of the hose spouts have been taken off the property except in wash rack areas, so if you want to have a water bucket for your horse, you have to manually fill it by holding the tongue of the automatic waterer down, which takes forever. Over the summer they also had a lot of problems with having to shut the water off for hours at a time during the heat of the day, and since it is so hard to fill the water buckets, many people do not have extra water available for their horse when the water gets shut off. It is really sad that the location of this stables is so nice and perfect for trail riders, but the owner has made quite clear the kind of business that she wants. If you ride western and/or trails, sadly this is not the place for you, unless maybe if you only ride your horse on the trails. Also, as a previous poster said, if you came to this stables before she took up ownership, she WILL NOT refund your "refundable" safety deposit on your stall, since it was not paid directly to her. The safety deposit is equal to one month's board. A lot of us have been here for many years and some have multiple horses. When she wanted to take over ownership, she asked us all to stand behind her and support her (she even had us all sign a petition to the county saying why we wanted her as an owner) and she would in turn make the stables a better place for us and our horses. A girl who boards here even told me when she went to the owner with some of our concerns, she did not want to hear it and when the girl said that a bunch of the boarders felt betrayed that she wasn't taking any of our opinions or concerns after we supported her, she had the nerve to say that our support didn't help her win ownership, and the petition we signed hurt her more than it helped her. If you don't believe anything that is said here, come visit the stables for yourself. Come in the late afternoon/early evening when all of the people who actually have to work for a living come to see their horses. Pass the barn with all her "priority clientele" and trainers, and head into the pipe stalls (from the left side of the barn all the way to the back fence) and ask anyone about anything that has been said in this review. You will probably get a whole laundry list full of more complaints that I didn't even mention. read more
