Daytime swim today, it was warm out so it was a perfect day for the pool. It was pretty packed when we first got there, as there was a local summer camp having a field trip to the pool. Once they left it was much better, with more room for swimming. I do wish they had the open swim time last a bit longer. It is only 2 hours which isn't much time, especially when camps are there and the pools are crowded. But we had fun and made the best of our time there. read more

Before entering I asked if my kids could wear goggles and they said yes. When they were in the pool the lifeguard told my son he wasn't allowed to wear his goggles because they covered his nose. So stupid. My kids said they don't want to go back because there are too many rules and I agree. It's suppose to be fun, but it wasn't. Don't think we'll be going back. read more

this is our first time come to Brea Plunge and it's a very nice & safe public pool! They have pretty big kiddie pool and another pool for bigger kids with a divider walkway in the middle. Kiddie pool is 2-3 feet deep and the other pool is 3-6 feet deep. They have 5 lifeguards here (4 lifeguards around the bigger pool and 1 lifeguard standing around the kiddie pool) My kids enjoy swimming here so much!!! Glad I found this pool on google!!! They only charge $2/person for admission!! Open swim hours from 1:30p.m.-3:30p.m. (2 hours) on M-F and 12:30-3:30p.m. (3 hours) on weekend. read more

We love this pool! It was our 1st year doing swim lessons. We only signed up for 1 session, but our girls (6 & 10) learned so much in 2 weeks and loved it so much that they are now in their 3rd session and thinking about signing up for a 4th. It's a great summer activity and fun because they meet old friends and make new ones. The instructors have been awesome!! The facility is almost one hundred years old, but Brea clearly considers this a proud landmark of the fair city and as such it has been well cared for. The price for a 2 hour "plunge" is in nearly everyone's budget and the snacks (chips and water/soda) are reasonable too. I decided to try swim lessons again after I went white water kayaking and flipped over 3 times. I had a life jacket and instructors nearby, but knowing how to swim would have made me feel more comfortable. Thankfully swim lessons were about to start at the Plunge, so I singed up. I attended the first session of adult swim lessons, and am starting on my 2nd session. I've attempted adult swim lessons before, but never made it to the deep end. Partly because it was outdoor swim lessons in the evening, and cold, so I never finished. I had one instructor tell me to swim out, but he didn't tell me I'd be in the deep end, and then I freaked out when I couldn't touch the floor. Ivan has been my instructor and he has been great. He works with you at whatever level you are at, gives you tips and pointers and wants to get you to your goals. On my last session he made our group go off the diving board because we want to be comfortable in the deep end. It was scary, yet fun, and I knew he was there to help if I didn't make it back up, but I made it back up. I'm excited to continue learning. I looked at other adult group swim lessons and they were only 30 minutes versus an hour. I know in a group lesson, 30 minutes won't get you much. It's great that we have an hour, and it's very reasonable at $70 for 5 lessons. The pool is nice and clean, and it's large. This review is for the AQUA AEROBICS. The Tuesday/Thursday classes given by Jackson and Gavin are AMAZING! These two young men host a great workout that is also a music and comedy show. The moves, music, and activity during class are spot on for a great workout. But what makes the class so much fun is the banter that these young men add to the workout. They make us laugh, interact so friendly with everyone, and show that they both genuinely enjoy their job as aqua aerobics instructors. They are the reason that the class continues to grow and that so many of us come back time after time. Their enthusiasm is so appreciated! Thank you Jackson and Gavin!!! We all miss their enthusiasm and passion on Saturdays, since the Saturday instructors are much more "subdued" and not quite as friendly. We went for a swim and I was told I couldn't wear goggles in the water. I inquired as to why and they said because kids can drown when they swim with goggles. I'm a grown adult who has been swimming my whole life. I would recommend they don't chose a one size fits all to problems. Put an age restriction on goggles if its a problem for kids. read more

We love this pool. The kiddie pool is deeper (2-3 feet deep) than the ones typically at parks and rec (1 foot deep). I don't know why people r so offended about the "no toys" rule. I'm sure they've gotten toys stuck in the filter. Or toys getting rusted on the bottom of the pool. Stop whining about it. Cuz you'd complain if the pool was rusty on the bottom due to toys being left behind. It's a good place. Appreciate it more. read more

I am so disappointed in this place. I grew up coming here every summer to swim. I loved it! It was a fun and safe place to be. I was excited to take my 2 year old sun so he could enjoy it as much as I did. Unfortunately, the only consistency was that it was safe but no longer fun. My 2 year old who obviously cannot swim was not allowed to wear his floatation device in the water so he had to cling to me the entire time. And when I say cling, he was tugging at my hair, swim suit, glasses, everything. Fine, got past that. So we when into the kiddie pool where he was excited to play with his new boats that we purchased at the store on the way here. Nope. They don't allow pool toys in the pool!!! Way to take all the fun out of something that is supposed to made for just that, FUN! I'm so disappointed that my child won't get to experience diving down to the bottom for things as I did. 8 days in, 3 cancelled classes. No make-ups and no refunds. What's even better is that we didn't even get noticed on 2 of the cancellations. We found out upon arrival. The worker said the calls probably went to our Spam. Needless to say that my kids were not happy to show up dressed in their bathing suits, ready to swim, to only get turned away at the door. Not a very good experience so far. I understand not making up classes if class cancellations were rare but 3 in less than 2 weeks is a lot and it's likely 1 of our last 2 will be cancelled at this rate. On a more positive note, their instructors are good. They work well with the kids. But because of their policies, this will likely be our first and last experience with them. read more

This pool is SO DISGUSTING!!! Like sick, pee filled, green/yellow color disgusting! The main pool looked fine, but the kiddie pool was beyond disgusting; Im so surprised it was even open..the ph balance and chlorine level was all off that it was so murky and a green/yellow color. When my sons splashed me it tasted disgusting and nothing like chlorine - I was just imagining kids pee splashing in my mouth. On top of that as somebody else mentioned it is SO BORING HERE!!! Swimming is supposed to be a fun activity for the kids, and I also had my 3 and 2 year old with me who cant really swim, and no floatation devices are allowed, and no pool toys like our little water football - what?!?! What else are we supposed to do with our 2 year old that can't swim, that we had to pay for and cant have any fun?! Took our 10 month old for mommy and me class. It was amazing. I highly recommend it. Miss Nikki was awesome! Our son is no longer afraid of the water and loves it! Would surely do it again next year. Our class was from 6 months to 3 years. We learned lots of great lessons, like water safety, blowing bubbles, kicking, going under the water, among many other things. It's important to go into class having realistic expectations, and remember to have fun! read more

We absolutely love the kids swim lessons. The instructions are very knowledgeable and they challenge the kids in a very good way. Both our 6.5 and 4 year old is learning so much and super excited every morning to go to swim lessons. The lifeguards are amazing and the rules are perfectly fine. This is an awesome program. I had to get in line very early one morning to get my son signed-up, but it was definitely worth it. The instructors are all awesome-- They work hard to put together a solid program that encourages young kids to swim. I saw one group of "polliwogs"--kids under 3 or 4 who just cried for 30 minutes straight for each lesson. The instructor maintained her composure and was positive and supportive. Don't sign up for lessons in the afternoon. In one session (that's only 2 week long) lessons were cancelled twice because of a chemical imbalance (a kid pooping or throwing up). This is my tenth year bringing boys to the Plunge for swimming lesson. I feel old by saying tenth year. From the years, it tells the story of satisfaction of the program. It is many over night camp to sign boys for baby and me to level three. It is a pay off to register boys to level five on-line instead of overnight camping for the number. I have met great neighbor during the camp which I miss. This is a great and affordable program. See the boys improvement and using proper arms and legs movement, it is worth the trip and many overnight camps past eight years. read more

10 feet DEEP Disappointment..... U_U I enrolled my daughter for level 2 for all 3 sessions. This level swims in between 4'6" and 5'6" area of the pool. Instructor will swim along with kids. She learned the basic skills; however, the classes doesn't teach kids to tread water. For session 1, my daughter had Miss Angel which was very professional. My daughter learned and improved her skills. For session 2, my daughter had Miss Britney which was a bit of disappointment. She doesn't have the experience or the interest to deal with kids. At the end of the session with Miss Britney, she passed my daughter to level 3. There's a big problem. Level 3 swims in the deep end of the pool (10 feet) and without the instructor following the kids. I was hesitant about her decision and I expressed my concerns(if my daughter cannot tread water, why would you want to put her in a 10 feet deep pool). I took my daughter to recreational swim in the 10 feet area of the pool but she freaked out. I immediately went to the office to request the change and have my daughter back to the original enrolled class which was level 2 for session 3. The supervisor said that right after my daughter moved to next level, her spot in level 2 was taken. Refund cannot be issued. I'm frustrated that my daughter cannot attend the original enrolled class which she loves; and she doesn't want to go to a class that she's not comfortable with. This chaotic situation is caused by an inexperienced, unprofessional and irresponsible instructor. What can I say about the pool supervisor? All she cares about is to fill the space, by pushing kids to the next level; even though, they are not ready. This way they get more people to pay. read more

The kids had a great time learning to swim here. All the teachers were so patient with my 2 kids. My kids didn't immediately like swimming but after the first week of the summer session they started to enjoy it. Because of that I signed my kids up to all the summer sessions. They are more confident in the water, jumping from the deep end and just love swimming all together. Love taking my family here during the open swim hours. However, despite coming on a week day, they let in way too many bodies at a time to where there is literally no space to move in either pool. Regardless, we are fans of The Plunge. Wish they would service their bathrooms more regularly as there are a lot of little persons who are soaking wet using the bathroom. Love that they have a toddler/preschool wading pool for children who can't swim. Love that there's a diving board. Plenty of free street parking. Love the price: $2 per person for open swim. read more

we normally go to another pool but we were unable to get into the parent/me class. this place was highly recommended by my friend my son loves the water so i figured id check it out. sign ups were easy. at first it seemed ok. until it was the end of session and they wanted us to have the kids jump off the diving board. these are little kids. thats not a little diving board. i didnt think my kid would have a problem because he loves the pool. welps i was wrong he was screaming bloody murder by the time he popped up. this was a requirement to pass the class. he has never "failed" so badly at parent and me swimming. every section he "failed" or "didnt" do something. its supposed to be fun too! he would cry when we drove over there. i stupidly signed up for a bunch of sessions because i needed a specific time slot. luckily for me we had last minute vacations and his school started sooner than expected and i was able to get a refund i get that some kids are crying and scared but this pool had the most crying/screaming kids ive ever heard! ive been to 3 other places for swimming and this by far was unpleasant. oh and parking is street parking or the small lot. sometimes its so ridiculous you have to circle around the only good thing is theres a park right beside it so if ur early to class u can kill time there read more

i've just started with the brea plunge adult work out program. id say its as good as it gets. it was built in 1929 but recently refurbished, again. freshly painted and very clean and professionally run. the water, pool and grounds are very clean and the water is a excellent workout temp. i've had 3 different instructors, different days and their all very experienced at running a great class. from what ive seen the children classes do quite well and everyone is having a good time. I have no experience here 7 yrs ago so I cant comment on previous issues. but for now a big kudos for them. keep up the good work! I only wish they were open all year to workout. read more

My grand-daughter had her first swimming lesson here. They traumatized her for life. She was scared, and tried climbing out of the pool, and they would repeatedly pick her up and throw her back in. They kept telling me this was normal and to keep bringing her back. She was my first child, and they were "supposedly" the experts, so I listened to them. It's been 7 years, and she's a great swimmer (thank to Biola's swim program and Splash in La Mirada). She still has fears of swimming in the deep end, and of jumping in the pool. She told me she's still scared, because of her experience at Brea plunge. It also resulted in a bad case of hives, which she still suffers from on occasion. read more

This was the worst experience for swimming lessons! I just spent the summer helping my daughter overcome her fear of jumping into the pool after being traumatized at the Brea Plunge. She was repeatedly thrown into the pool every time she climbed out, because she didn't like the lessons. The instructors and director at Brea Plunge told me this was normal and expected, and told me to keep bringing her back. By the end of the 2 weeks, my daughter was a wreck. She had stomach aches, and couldn't eat her breakfast. I didn't realize the extent of the damage until I asked her to jump into the pool and swim to the side and climb out. She couldn't do it. She would start crying and be so scared. She cited her experience at Brea plunge and being repeatedly thrown into the pool. We've used private swimming lessons at Biola and this year at La Mirada Splash. Her instructors have been patient, encouraging and supportive. I'm happy to say she can jump into the pool now, without the tears and fears! If you have a sensitive child, don't use Brea Plunge! read more
