Wow, I feel like it's necessary to circle back around and post a follow up to my original review…read more The last few weeks of my pregnancy from 29-34 weeks were the toughest, but through it all, I felt like the staff at Valley kept me informed and cared for every step of the way. During my last few weeks, I was in the Valley office 2x a week, seeing Sue Ellen, Dr. Kuhlman or Mary Beth. Sue Ellen was fantastic and a huge help in my Gestational Diabetes management. She was honest, supportive and the exact type of compassionate person I needed during that time. And Mary Beth's Ultrasounds are what showed us that my son wasn't growing on track, which prompted Dr. Kuhlman to have us admitted for Steroid shots at 33 weeks, to help boost my son's lung development. Even though what we were seeing on the US wasn't the best news, Mary Beth never lost her smile, and continued to be positive and comforting. After my appointment at 34 weeks, the decreased movement and minimal growth prompted Dr. Kuhlman to called ahead and had a room ready for us at the hospital, with plans to have my son delivered. He was born via C Section 36 hours later, due to the same irregular heartbeat and inconsistent movements that the ladies at Valley had been tracking. Their attention to detail is what gave my son the chance to do well, even being 6 weeks early. Each of the individuals in this office played such a huge role in my pregnancy, and I cannot even begin to thank them for all of the support, kind words and education they provided to me. At times things got a little rocky, but I was always confident and felt nothing but Love and support.

What about your wife asking for EMS when a call should have happened 14 mins prior? Gas lit and told it was only a minute or two. Thank GOD for EMS records! TIME IS BRAIN. Emergence isn't qualified for EMERGENCY. My family travailed the tension of life and death in our story, and while satisfactory, and normal physiologic experiences are great, hearing how licensed medical professionals handle dire, forlorn clinical scenarios is of utmost importance in precisely displaying a facet of skill and level of care that literally cannot be displayed at any other time, other than conjuncture. Making my testimony especially meaningful. If you had no complications, you can't speak to the things I can, because quite frankly both my baby and wife faced life endangering encounters and the assumed ability to manage such was sorely lacking, from not 1 but 2 tenured midwives who attended my wife's delivery. You could statistically bank on the likelihood of a normal birth and be fine BUT when it's not fine, it is catastrophically and preventably not fine. Survival bias is real. CPM midwife Caitlyn has 13 violations with the state regarding this birth, and may have license revocation later this year. Look up AZ care check to follow objective details. CNM owner Nancy has an open investigation with her board as well. She has spoken publicly on other midwives "deficiencies" and failure to uphold scope and statutes - and ironically has violated the same statutes she condemned others for while functioning like she wasn't also accountable to Arizona rules and regulations. Do your wife and your baby a LIFE SAVING favor and get someone who knows how to use a FREAKING AMBU-BAG.

I would shout it from the rooftops; emergence is the BEST home birth practice in Arizona hands down!

First, I was EARLY into my pregnancy. As a four pregnancy, something felt different and I wanted to see my baby to be sure. Little Buns and Nikki is not a medical establishment and she is not a medical professional, but she is a sweet, good hearted woman and at 7 weeks when not even a OB would see me early, Little Buns did. The boutique is beautiful. With super cute and unique baby wear, the lobby and room had snacks and toys for my toddlers. There is a big beautiful screen right in front of the bed to see your tiny baby wiggle. And I will love forever that Nikki was the one who got to show us that what I thought felt off, was twins. We left with several photos and a video of the moment those TWO babies popped up on the screen. I Love that Little Buns plays such a pivotal moment in my life. Thank you so much Little Buns

I cannot in good conscience recommend East Valley Midwifery…read more What should have been a supportive, safe experience turned into a deeply traumatic one due to the negligence and lack of compassion from this practice. Trust is the foundation of midwifery care, and East Valley Midwifery completely shattered mine. Throughout my care, there was a noticeable lack of communication, empathy, and attentiveness. My concerns were frequently dismissed, and I often felt unheard and invalidated. This wasn't just disappointing - it was harmful. The very people who should have provided reassurance and guidance during such a vulnerable time instead left me feeling isolated and anxious. But the most devastating part was how their negligence directly contributed to a traumatic birth experience - one that no family should have to endure. Their failure to provide proper care, coupled with their dismissive attitude, caused lasting emotional distress that I'm still working to heal from. No parent should have to experience what I did. When you choose a midwife, you're placing your trust in them to safeguard both you and your baby. Unfortunately, East Valley Midwifery has proven they cannot be trusted with that responsibility. I strongly recommend choosing a hospital for your birth, where you can receive the care of an experienced medical team, including doctors who are equipped to handle every aspect of your delivery with competence and compassion. Because of my experience with East Valley Midwifery, I would not recommend midwifery care at all - the risk simply isn't worth it. Please think twice before choosing this practice. Especially if you are a person of color, or in an interracial relationship. There are better, safer options out there - ones that will treat you with the respect, care, and professionalism you deserve during such an important time in your life.

However, here are the things I wish I had known before I chose him as my provider: There were times during my labor and delivery that he didn't know who I was. He kept confusing me with other patients. This was entertaining in some instances and not in others - for example, when he confused me with someone else who under no circumstances wanted a C-section. My baby's heart was in distress, my own heart (with a documented and discussed history of arrhythmia) was tachycardic, my water had ruptured more than 30 hours before (a month prematurely), I was running a temperature, and I was only dilated to a 2, and yet *I* had to be the one to bring up the possibility of a C-section. He was shocked when I did, because he thought I was vehemently against surgical intervention. This, despite the fact that two days before at my 35 week appointment, we literally shook hands that he would lean toward C-section if things went south. Another instance of him not knowing who I was: my water broke at midnight, so I called the answering service. They took my name and gestational age, and within a minute I was speaking to the doctor who informed me to head to Banner Gateway. I saw him the next morning, where he looked at my chart and expressed surprise that I was only 35 weeks pregnant. This could have been dangerous if my baby had been any more premature than she was, as Banner Gateway isn't as well equipped to take care of premature babies as Banner Desert is. Even if the answering service failed to tell him my weeks of gestation, shouldn't he have asked? Or shouldn't he have remembered, considering I saw him 12 hours before that phone call, at my 35 week appointment? At first I thought it was neat that he spent so much time with his patients and that he does all the ultrasounds personally. But ultimately what that means is that he and his staff are over-extended, and you WILL wait at each appointment; possibly up to an hour. I couldn't figure out why he wouldn't just hire an ultrasound tech to re-distribute some of the work, because lord knows the man has plenty of demand. (I even had a hospital staff member say to me incredulously, "He sure delivers a lot of babies...") I assume he just doesn't want to pay another staff member, but the entire practice suffers as a result, and it doesn't look good for him. Tip: If you choose him as your provider, get into the habit of asking for the very first appointment of the morning. (And even then, you might have a wait, depending on how his early-morning rounds at the hospital go. But it's your best hope.) The ultrasound equipment is ancient; forget about seeing clear images of your baby. You'll be lucky if you can make out a spine or a head. My best friend was pregnant at the same time as me and the difference between our ultrasound photo keepsakes makes me sad. I had no concept of my daughter's face or profile before she was born. The office itself is very old and tired and decorated like an 80's Relief Society room. There's a Book of Mormon in the lobby. (I'm even Mormon but found that off-putting.) At my first appointment, they gave me a little trinket that I got the strong impression was intended to be distributed in the parking lots of Planned Parenthood clinics - a pin showing you the size of your baby's feet at 10 weeks, and I think there was a scripture? If I recall correctly? All of this to say, I did not get the impression that the doctor would be supportive of all of a woman's options and rights when it comes to pregnancy. At my six week follow up, he talked about prescribing me a birth control pill that could have caused my milk to dry up. Luckily I was informed enough to know that as a nursing mother I needed a pill without estrogen - but if I hadn't known that, it could have been disastrous to my milk supply. Also, as soon as I left my six week follow up, I realized he never cleared me for sex! I thought that was the whole point of the six week appointment!! It was never mentioned. I don't plan to have any more children, but if that changes, I won't be seeing Dr. Holmes again. He's a very nice man and his team is as wonderful as all the reviews say (Alejandra in particular is a true gem), but everything considered I cannot recommend the practice.
