I celebrated my birthday here last night. We were a party of 9 for hibachi. We had a reservation and we were glad we did. The place was packed with people waiting to get in. Everything was great and the servers could not have been more attentive even with a full restaurant. The meat was super tender and the seafood very fresh and cooked to perfection. First time at Fujiyama and I was very disappointed with the portion size. I got a jb roll and rainbow roll and they looked like mini versions of sushi, by far the smallest rolls I've ever had. They were really tasty but unfortunately totally not worth it to pay that much for that portion. It's been a while since we have been to a hibachi style restaurant. This place was very loud. I found out why soon enough. 3 birthday parties were going on at the same time. Yelling, drums beating, singing etc. Reminded me of a Japanese Chuck E. Cheese.. not what I pictured before we came in. If you want to have someone else's party right next to you, go for it. If you want a quiet night at dinner, don't even think about it. The only reason I'm giving 3 stars is the food was pretty good. The cook was entertaining. Not worth the high price though. Better than the local Benihana. The outside is modest with a rock people seem to like taking pictures next to. The inside is very nice, clean and modern. I had the Filet Mignon because I was not paying and it was delicious. Good portion size and a nice little show that will really impress your 5 year old, just keep your lousy kids away from me. Bring a group so you don't awkwardly sit with strangers that you have to pretend you like. But if you do sit with strangers try to get them to pay the bill like you know them. It's a real sweet deal when you dupe some bumpkin into paying for you. But honestly I would come back and pay my own paper money for a quality meal here. I would say the only thing they have going against them is they don't have a nice waterfront view like Benihana; so, no majestic vista as a backdrop to woo your date. read more

I went last night for my birthday (apparently everyone else in town had a birthday too) and we got hibachi. The chefs were awesome! We all had a great time. They put on a good show and the food was impressive. My parents ordered sushi and they seemed to enjoy it, the presentation was very nice. They had a lot of staff come sing happy birthday to me, they even brought out percussion and seemed very enthusiastic. Brought my grandchildren here for our first visit. I have dined at Benihanas before but since the reviews at this establishment were so good I thought I would bring the kids here for their first hibachi experience. What a let down. The food was over priced for the mediocre taste. The cook was not entertaining at all. In fact when we finished eating the kids actually turned their attention to another table, who was actually getting a show. When I spoke to the manager about my concerns she didn't seem to care. I was just at this restaurant for a birthday celebration with a party of 15 people. The food was good and the chef was great but the horrible experience that followed ruined the entire evening. When the waitress took our order I presented her with a Groupon that I had purchased. She said, "Ok, I will check on this" and never said another word about it. We finished dinner and she brought me my check and showed me that she had taken the $30 Groupon off my bill. Two minutes later the waitress and another woman (small Asian woman with long straight pinkish/red hair) came over to me and loudly announced that I could not use the Groupon because it was for a restaurant in Columbus Ohio and they ripped the bill out of my hands. I protested but they told me I needed to pay the whole bill. No matter what I said, they talked over me and out of frustration I gave up. Then someone in our party reminded me that the waitress had taken the Groupon and even rung it up so they should honor it. I told this to the waitress and asked to speak to the manager. The waitress told me that the manager was the other woman who had been raising her voice to me. Eventually the waitress came back and told me she would pay the $30 difference because the restaurant would not honor the Groupon. She apologized and told me I should also keep the Groupon and call them to get my money back. I felt badly that the waitress would have to pay the difference but I let it go so we would not continue to make everyone feel uncomfortable. Then, the manager came out to loudly tell me again how I was wrong and needed to pay the entire bill. I once again explained that the waitress had taken the Groupon and even rung it up so she had offered to take care of the difference. This did not quiet the manager and now a friend I was with tried to step in and quiet her down but that did not work. As the manager continued to raise her voice, my 14 year old daughter began to argue with her because she had also had enough of the manger's rudeness. I then became insistent that they both stop becasue I did not want to ruin my friend's birthday any longer. The manager mumbled something under her breath and walked away complaining. I left cash for my bill and we all got up to say goodbye and leave . Unbelievably, the manager came at me again. Very loudly this time. She asked for my Groupon coupon. Why, I don't know, since she wasn't going to honor it. I gave it to her and she continued to loudly complain that it was for the wrong restaurant. I asked her to stop causing a scene and I walked around the corner, to the front door to wait for my friends. When my friends came out they were angry. Evidently, this "manager" went to the customers sitting at the table next to us and started complaining about me and loudly telling them that I tried to use the wrong Groupon. That was the last straw! Clearly the waitress messed up by not checking my Groupon and even ringing it up...but she was willing to fix her mistake. But this "manager" was the rudest, most unprofessional person I have ever encountered in a place of business. Not only should they have honored my Groupon, they also should have apologized to me for embarrassing me and paid for my entire meal. I will never return to this restaurant and I will be sure to tell everyone I know about this horrible experience. read more

We decided to try this restaurant last night for my birthday. I was a bit hesitant to go after reading the mixed reviews. But it was great ! The service was friendly and prompt. Our waiter kept us entertained while we were waiting for 2 more people. The food was delicious and well prepared. The only reason that I gave my review 4 stars instead of 5 was due to the obnoxious behavior of 4 drunk patrons at another table (but I guess that was entertainment also). Our waitress sucked, quite frankly, and almost ruined the experience, but our chef made up for it and was apologetic about her. Hopefully she steps it up in the future or doesn't last long (she forgot our drinks, then our appetizer, then when the chef came he realized that she never turned on the grill and we had to wait another 10 minutes, then she forgot drink refills, then forgot the hibachi sauce). read more

Some of the best food in Martin County. Our service was excellent until I mentioned a birthday cake that was not given to my father, as it was promised. Once I brought that to the manager's attention, everything was blamed on me for not reminding them. I assumed I didn't need to as they presented him with the $15.00 birthday gift card. In the end, the response I received was, "oh well, come in tomorrow if you have to." We will return one more time and see how the experience is. I went to the Fujiyama website and checked out their lunch specials and menu. Hibachi was listed along with prices for lunch. I called and spoke to someone prior to the day we wished to come and told the man I was bringing someone who had never eaten hibachi before. Imagine my surprise after a twenty minute drive when the greeter told me they do not serve hibachi for lunch. So a totally wasted trip and we left. Wouldn't you think they would update the website to remove hibachi items or just insert a line that hibachi is only for dinner? And why didn't the person tell me when I called? Very disappointing. If you enjoy the Vero location - sorry, you aren't going to like this one. Firstly - they are understaffed - one poor guy making drinks. When we got there earlier than our reservation we understood we would wait for our time. Five minutes after our reserved time, the hostess told us she didn't know how much longer we would have to wait because people weren't leaving. Well, if your chefs keep squirting sake in everyone's mouthes, why would they leave? Rice was al dente - I mean hard. They have back to back grills always burning with little ventilation. I lost more weight from sweating than I did from eating. They have taken in a bit of the Benihana commercialization. Portions were ok, prices were avg of what most Hibachi grills are - food is drenched in soy sauce. The fried rice was very bland. I believe if there were less grills and better ventilation, the food may taste better because there is a comfort level that is missing. It was like eating Japanese on a crowded "L" Train local. Until there are changes made - we will go elsewhere local or to there location in Vero. read more
