The new management team has put much hard work into upgrading the facility. Jenny and John have listened to what customers have suggested and then they delivered! 2. The ball dispensing machines have new card readers that are a big improvement. They are faster and easier to use. 3. New range balls - so nice! 4. Mats - these are the best that I have ever used! Soft but firm, not like the old hard mats that felt like you were hitting off concrete and damaging your clubs. 5. Island Greens - so nice! These targets are priceless and make the range attractive. 6. Two putting greens - 1 is synthetic - take your pick. 7. A sand bunker practice area with real sand, not dirt! 8. Lighted at night to accommodate anyone's schedule. 9. A Golf Mart is on the premises, how convenient. You can demo clubs on a real range and not a simulator. Plus great customer service! 10. Golf Instruction - Awesome! Take your pick, many options to choose from. In closing, the Carlsbad Golf Center is AWESOME! So really not sure where to begin. I can't decide if I am satisfied more with my putter…read morerestoration or the customer service. I had a concept idea for a Phantom 5.5 that I bought cheap from a golf store and this club was in very bad shape. After speaking with Sherry she helped me decide on the finish and accent colors. The BOS team knocked this out of the park as this club looks brand new. Keep in mind this putter is now going to be part of display at my house along side a few others. The price for all the work was more than reasonable and the turn around time was outstanding. Highly recommend these folks for any club repair or customized work. I have included some before and after pictures so their work can be showcased. PS- Their golf towels are epic as well!

Fees: 85.00 for refinish. GREAT VALUE. This company was the original finisher for Scotty Camerons, so thats around 1993 or so, according to AI. 35.00 for each white line to be redone on a putter, or to put a new one. NOT SUCH A GREAT VALUE. To refinish my 1993 Newport was 85 refinish, 15.00 to pull the shaft, don't know if that includes putting it back in, not a great deal, 3 lines 105.00, HORRIBLE DEAL. SO 205.00 TO REFINISH MY PUTTER. Considering it already has 3 lines, and I use it, I'll pass. If I was selling it, I might have considered the 105.00 to refinish. Don't know what the lettering cost. The original finish, likely from these people, is still good. Needs a little polish, and reinking to look like new. The owner responded to my honest experience on another website by attacking me personally. For that reason, they get ONE star. I suspect he got drunk on a Friday night, which is when he wrote the response, and wrote the ad hom. I would strongly suggest you describe, in exact detail, all services you want on your putter, call Sherry, and get a written price, before bringing your club in. Know EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT DONE, IN DETAIL, SO YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO CHARGE YOU. Owners response: BOS Golf (Owner) a day ago Hi Greg, First I'd like to say I am disappointed in you for posting false information. I'd like to clarify that you pulled into our private parking lot which has a 10,000 sq ft building. We have 3 divisions at this location. #1. Our manufacturing & machining division. #2. Our Black Oxide Coatings Division. #3. Our Golf Refinishing & Customization Division. When you make "Assumptions" about our signage displayed in our lobby regarding "Our Shop Rate" you might want to read and or inquire what that pertains to as it pertains to "walk-ins" wanting a "repair" expecting us to tear down a production run to perform some type of machining service which isn't related to golf. We placed that sign there so that customers would understand our "Machining Rates" and understand that we won't stop production and tear down a set-up to repair a pump or machine a rotor etc. While we understand the urgency of a repair it cost too much money to tear down a set up that is in the middle of a production run. We do our best to accommodate emergency jobs but if it isn't feasible we'll provide a lead time and if that is acceptable, we will process the repair as soon as the production run is completed. While everyone is entitled to their opinion posting False information without obtaining the facts is rude and disrespectful. If you had only taken the time to visit our website, you would have seen the prices on our order form or you could have sent us an email or called our office to obtain pricing over the phone. However. you choose not to do any of those options and decided to stop by with your clubs where you were greeted courteously and taken to Sherry's office where she was able to address all your questions and provide you with pricing. I don't know what you mean or imply by stating we "get our customers to commit?" ??? Have no clue what even made you say that! We don't use "sales tactics or any stupid gimmicks." We are straightforward and provide you with pricing and make suggestions on how you can save money such as pulling the shafts off of your clubs yourself. We just don't operate that way! Let's be honest! You complained about our fees and proceed to tell Sherry that you had this service done for free elsewhere. Sherry responded in kind by suggesting that maybe you could pull the shafts yourself to save a little money or if you still had the connection to take the clubs there and have these services done for free and if you still wanted the clubs refinished that would cut back on your fees and we'd be happy to refinish them. She was honest and courteous even though you took some jabs. She politely explained we can't do this for free. We have employees to pay, environmental fees, utilities, rent etc., whereas your other connection may be a small shop without all of these expenses. You were "peeved" because she wouldn't do the services you inquired about for free. That's the TRUTH! Therefore, to conclude it is disheartening to read a dishonest statement. We work very hard to maintain our Excellent Reputation,Great Customer Service, Quality Workmanship and Competitive Pricing. No advertising, simply all word of mouth referrals. That speaks volumes. I hope those of you reading this will realize who's telling the truth in this post. Respectfully, BOS

Four stars for TaylorMade Golf. I'm a fan…read more When I first started playing golf, throughout the 90s and into the mid 2000s, I was a Callaway man. Every club in my bag, from driver to putter, was Callaway. Then, when the USGA limited the size of driver heads to 460cc, I decided to buy a new driver. I went to my local PGA Tour Superstores and demoed a bunch of them. I tried them out on simulators and recorded my stats (e.g. ball spin, club head speed, distance, launch angle, and of course, accuracy). I also checked the clubs out and took them with me to the range. I had multiple demo sessions between two PGA Tour Superstore locations and the range. This was a big investment decision for me, especially since these drivers cost hundreds of dollars each. Brands I tested included Adams, Callaway, Cleveland, Cobra, TaylorMade, and Titleist. After extensive testing, the driver that came out on top for me and my swing was the TaylorMade Burner. I still use the driver to this day with relatively consistent results. I've been very happy with it. It's got a stock regular flex Fujikura graphite shaft and I've had the grip replaced with the tried and true Golf Pride Tour Velvet grip (it's on all my clubs but the putter). Other TaylorMade products I've regularly used include golf balls and golf gloves. I really liked playing the TaylorMade TP Reds before they stopped making them. They felt great. Recently, I've been going through boxes of TaylorMade Dad-isms golf balls. They're more of a gift than a "serious" competition ball. My dad found them on sale/clearance at his local sports store/golf shop. At my skill level, they work just as well as, if not better than, the old TP Reds I used to play. As for gloves, I currently have a small collection of TaylorMade Tour Preferred and Stratus gloves that will last me for years. Again, my dad found many on sale/clearance, this time, at the Golf Galaxy (IIRC) on Hilton Head Island. The gloves feel great. They fit well, are smooth and comfortable, and help give me a good grip on every single one of my clubs. I prefer the Tour Preferred gloves because each one comes with a roughly quarter-size magnetic ball marker on top of the velcro flap; not one of those tiny snap-in button ball markers. Dustin Johnson supposedly wore the same glove (either the Tour Preferred or Stratus, I'm not sure). At the time of writing this review, TaylorMade has a star-studded lineup of PGA Tour players that it sponsors including Tiger Woods, Dustin Johnson, Jason Day, Collin Morikawa, Jon Rahm, Matthew Wolff, Rickie Fowler, and Rory McIlroy. Currently, TaylorMade's most expensive product is the SIM Driver with an MSRP of $549.99. "SIM" stands for Speed in Motion, a "reshaped" driver with a "speed-injected" "Twist Face," among many other features that have been marketed and hyped up. Twist Face has always sounded gimmicky to me, but admittedly, I haven't tried out the relatively new technology yet. Regardless, TaylorMade is one of the pillar golf brands of today and in my experience, they produce solid clubs and accessories. I recommend their products to casual golfers.

I recently sent a Dual Balance Notchback into the Custom Shop for a simple reshaft, new grip, and a stamp. The shop called me and refused to do the work, claiming the head had "aftermarket work" done to it. Here is the truth: No structural changes: The head has never been milled, welded, or altered by a third party. Basic user tweaks: The only "work" was done by me, consisting of removing the paintfill and swapping the removable head weights. Irrelevant excuse: None of my requested services had anything to do with refinishing the head itself. Even after explaining this clearly to the representative on the phone, they completely refused to help or escalate the issue. To turn away a lifelong brand advocate over user-swapped weights and clean metal is ridiculous. Scotty Cameron's Custom Shop used to be the gold standard. Now, they use lazy policy technicalities to avoid doing basic bench work. If you like to customize your own paint or weights, do not send your putter here, they will waste your time, your shipping money, and refuse to service it.

My Callaway Golf Big Bertha irons have stood the test of time. I'm pretty sure I have the 1994…read moremodel due to the font and placement of the numbers on the soles of the clubs. The 1996 model has the numbers engraved in the middle of the sole while the 1994 model has them engraved at the toe. However, what confuses me is the coloring of the numbers on the faces of the clubs. Mine are painted red, but I've seen models with the face numbers painted in black and white. I'll be impressed if anyone can definitively shed light on that nuance. I received the clubs brand new in middle school as a gift from my dad. I proceeded to play on the middle school golf team and have been an avid golfer since. The clubs were purchased from Oak Hollow Golf Course in my hometown of High Point, North Carolina. They were a big deal when I got them. At the time, they were one of the hottest, if not *the* hottest, clubs on the market. The irons have served me well for 25+ years, which is crazy when you think about it. I have a 4-iron through pitching wedge. Over the last 25+ years, I've had some close calls permanently losing some of these clubs. Like most golfers, they tended to be my short game irons, but I once left my 4-iron on a par-3 tee box at TPC Sugarloaf and didn't realize it until after the round. I drove back in the dark and found my 4-iron still sitting on the tee box. I left my PW somewhere on the course at Legacy Golf Links in Smyrna and luckily, someone turned it in. Those were my two biggest "lost club" scares and I was very relieved to recover my clubs in both instances. The irons are "fat" and forgiving. They continue to perform well to this day without any work done to the original shafts (graphite, regular flex) or club heads (except for the occasional brush at the driving range or wipe-off with a towel). Of course, I've changed the grips multiple times and have only played Golf Pride Tour Velvets. They're the best. On September 23, 2018, I hit my first-ever (and so far only) hole-in-one on the 10th hole at Lanier Islands Legacy Golf Course in Buford, Georgia using my 8-iron. It was a contest hole, captured on video, and I won $2,500. Not bad for what was a 24-year-old club at the time. https://bit.ly/2V3n9T6 The irons, which include a lob wedge (that had to be purchased separately from the 4-to-PW set), have been constants in my bag since middle school. Other constants have been my fairway woods, same vintage: Big Bertha War Bird Fairway Woods 3, 5, and 7. The 7-wood was branded the "Heavenwood" by Callaway and even the headcover says it. I still have and use all the regular headcovers (great quality; more on that below). My mom got a ladies set of Callaway (again, same vintage) and her fairway woods even included a 9-wood, branded as the "Divine Nine." My dad has the Original Big Bertha Fairway Woods as well, the generation that came out before the War Bird models. The fairway woods have been good to me. They've come up clutch in many situations. At a club tournament I competed in in middle school, on a par-3, I hit my first shot into the water. The hole was a forced carry over a pond. I dropped in the rough in front of the pond and hit my 5-wood off the deck. The ball landed on the green and I two-putted for double bogey. I routinely use my 3-wood for my second shot on most par-5s. Unfortunately, the results for my 3-wood have become more inconsistent over the years. I tend to pull it more and more with my bad over-the-top swing, but when I nail it right, the results are great. Take for example, this awesome smack on the par-5 18th hole at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta: https://bit.ly/2SfJpHu. As far as the headcovers go, the Big Bertha War Bird Fairway Woods have soft, plush, velvety-feeling black or dark blue headcovers. I don't remember the original color because my headcovers have been faded/discolored by the sun over the last 25+ years. They now look like a dark bluish-purple. The quality of the materials is excellent as these headcovers have been in use for 25+ years with countless puttings-on and pullings-off. Compare that to my TaylorMade Burner driver headcover from 2007 which started crumbling and disintegrating less than 10 years in. The Callaway headcovers are still going strong. So yes, I do have a TaylorMade driver, but in the past, I used a Great Big Bertha Driver and The Biggest Big Bertha Driver. Driver technology was the golf club technology that changed the most since the 90s, so that's why I upgraded. However, the Great and Biggest Big Bertha Drivers performed well at the time. As for putters, for the longest time, I used a Big Bertha Blade putter. It matched the rest of the set nicely. It was heavy and long. In hindsight, I much prefer the old-school PING Anser and my current Odyssey White Hot 2-Ball putters (Odyssey is owned by Callaway). I used the Big Bertha Blade putter during some of my most memorable rounds including Pebble Beach and St. Andrews: https://bit.ly/2V4kAQF.
