I've had customers fittings at my golf club and more recently in the relatively new PXG Store on Miramar Blvd in San Diego. I was considering upgrading my 3 and 5 fairway woods and dropped by the PXG Store on Miramar Blvd yesterday...just to schedule a fitting appointment. As usual, I was warmly welcomed and since they had an open fitting time immediately, I underwent an exceptionally professional and detailed fitting on the spot. The Master Fitter (Justin) conducted the fitting, working through all manner of data collection beginning with assessment of my current clubs and progressing to multiple combinations of club heads, weight adjustments, shaft options, and advice. At the conclusion of the lengthy fitting, I made the decision to opt for a new Lightning 4 fairway wood and a new Lightning 7 fairway wood, both of which provided very significant performance improvements in distance and control over my old clubs. These two new clubs actually will replace my two old fairway woods AND my 5 iron. Since I am a military veteran, I qualify for the Heroes Program discounts (very significant savings). The new clubs are being custom assembled and will be delivered to my home in 7 days. PXG and Justin epitomize professionalism, outstanding customer service, and the highest quality equipment!

If you're a beginner, I think that's sufficient for a driver shot. They also have huge fencing on the sides so you be sure that your balls will never fly out of the range, but if it does it won't hit anything but trees and grass. The only downside is subset of the stalls have some light shading overhead. I would imagine they get little foot traffic during peak summer hours. The range has spacious ample parking and it has never been a problem. I think a bigger problem might be finding a stall during peak hours.

I wasen't going to write a review, but we came in on a separate visit trying to get a duffle, the Same Manager was actually on the sales floor (surprise) and we had asked her if she could bring us one down one so we could look at it. She was right next to them, and instead called a younger employee to grab it down with some big stick that was by the front door. Why were we made to wait??? Why couldn't you do it??? We even tried Lee Trevino's AutoFlex shaft. I wanted stock clubs. I did the fitting to help me choose the right clubs, stiffness, club length, grip size, etc., even though I cannot afford $7000 clubs; nor do I think I deserve this. Cale asked me my budget, which I told him around $3000. He kept to this amount and chose some great clubs for me. I have a Ping 430 Driver, a Ping SFT fairway wood, Ping 4 and 6 hybrids designed to give me height. I love them. My irons are TaylorMade, which includes 7i, 8i, 9i, and a Pitching Wedge. All with regular flex. Finally, Cale recommended a 52° Gap Wedge, 54° Sand Wedge, and a 60° Lob Wedge. I only chose the 54° Sand Wedge, which is okay. I may get the lob wedge later. I highly recommend this experience. Cale will work with you so that you can stay in your budget. He's also very friendly and interesting to talk to.

I live on the other side of the country where the closest True Spec is a multiple hour drive, and my clubs and family are in San Diego. After seeing the all 5 star reviews for this True Spec location, I booked a fitting with steve and a flight across the country for the same day to see family and get my club fitting. The next evening (the day before the fitting), Steve calls me to tell me he will have to cancel because of a water line break at the course out of his control. I was of course upset at this since I had just flown across the country to meet with what all reviews have stated is a phenomenal club fitter. Steve told me that the water line break is is out of his control, but I was still hopeful it would be fixed the by the next day as again, I had just flown across the country. I called the course the next morning (day of what was supposed to be my fitting), and was very eager to learn from the pro shop that the water line had been completely fixed and the whole range was back open. Now that it was no longer out of anyone's control, I contacted Steve to see if we would be back on for the booking I had already made. No phone answer, but texted me back to say that he planned to be offsite today after cancelling on me the day before. Frustrating way for the customer to have what is supposed to be a top notch business run this way instead of waiting to see if the water line was fixed and/or coming in once it was fixed for the originally booked appointment time, especially considering I told him the night before on the phone I flew across the country to get fitted with him specifically. Beware of late notice cancellation if planning on using this place, and the cancellation will stand even once there is no problem at the range. As excited as I was to use Steve at Tru Spec, I will be forced to ship my clubs back home and use a different company.

Walking in brought back memories of being a kid and coming here for bats, cleats, gloves, and whatever I needed for the next season. Experiences like this make it feel like childhood sports aren't completely gone in the age of online shopping. The selection is still what I remember, a little bit of everything for a wide variety of sports and seasons. The employee working the counter on Labor Day was polite, personable, knowledgeable, and quick. I also appreciate that this is still a place where you can walk in and pick up something sports-related quickly or at the last minute without breaking the bank or waiting for an online order. Five stars for keeping a little piece of that childhood sports experience alive.
