Not much has changed since the last review I see here. Place is rusty and rough around the edges. The mats and range are ok, but the grass hitting area is just dirt and divots. Practice green is frankly rough and the practice area is just weeds and crab grass. Not sure you would gain much going in there. Better off just hitting it around some vacant land. Place was packed on the mats side so clearly a cash cow and the owners have no incentive to make it nice. Could be a good practice center with improvements, but otherwise it is just a place to hit off the mats. read more

The driving range is decent, you have your choice of mats or grass, (like most) driving ranges. When you get your bucket of balls, there are some good ones in there and then th majority of them are very well used and what I would call "water balls". You know the ones you pull out if you are facing a hole with a high chance of ending up in the water. The signs as Craig W. pointed out in April to show the distance to the range markers, well they need to be put in the trash now. The worst part of The Hodges Golf Center is the short game area. You are charged $5.00 to go to an area that looks like a vacant lot that has been neglected for years. This are used to be such a great area to practice. Well maintained bunkers, trees, greens with actual cups in them even a water hazard. Now the only hazard is the short game area. I could not wait to get out of there just so neglected. I live close Oaks North so I will just go there from now on. The greens there are always in top condition and everything is in good shape and taken care of. read more

These owners don't care at all. These signs showing distance to driving range markers. Have been in the same unreadable condition for 2 years. How difficult would it be to post new ones. So golfers can know distances to colored posts in driving range. So lazy. read more

Ok it's not the nicest range as far as the grass goes but at least they have it. They also have a mats section if that's what you prefer. They do regripping onsite and at a reasonable rate so that's a bonus. And for $5 you can access their short game area. Again, not the best maintained but it's relatively large w bunkers and plenty of places to practice a variety of short game shots. All the staff are extremely friendly and their teaching staff is excellent. I can speak for Gary and he is top notch. read more

Folks, it's a range. Feels like a lot of people don't understand what that means, the fact they have grass at all is a miracle. Sure there are divots, but I repeat, it's a range, people hit a bucket of balls, could be 35-over 100 balls hit. Those people are going to make divots because they're practicing. We're talkin about practice. Yeah, grass be doing that. Don't think they can do a whole lot about the divots. Anyway. There's real grass, there are divots, but the fact you have the option other than just the mat is amazing-- balls are newer for the most part. Spaces are pretty wide. No sh*t bout those mosquitos, though. Watch yourself for those in the summer and warmer months in general. read more

It's a solid, reliable place to hit a bucket now and then it's the closest range to my home so I come here a few times per month. I also brought my son to lessons here with coach Jey Bacani, who is a good coach with kids. They should spend some time and money improving the putting green and short game area. They are rather old and warn out. A much better practice facility is Del Mar by the fairgrounds, but that's a bit far for those of us who live near the 15. read more

Overall this place is good. Not great, but definitely seen worse. Lighted and open into the evening which is nice. One cool thing about here is they have both real grass bays as well as matts. There's nothing here that really makes this place stick out over any other range except for it's lighted, but it's not bad either....3 stars. Balls are decently priced. It appeared that 50% or more of the golf matts were heavily worn and in need of being replaced. I prefer the range in Carlsbad area over this. One because it's closer to me and two, the entire facility seems to be in better condition. Only plus about Hodges is it has real grass bays where Carlsbad doesn't. If Hodges is closer for you, not sure if going 15-20 minutes west is worth it and basically a toss up of preference at that point. I'll definitely be back to utilize the grass bays at night as well as to switch up the atmosphere a bit. All in all it's a good place to practice. Nothing great, but not bad either. read more

5 stars for being open late! 3 stars for the quality of the area itself. There is no ball or club cleaner, just a bucket of extremely dirty water that you can shake the head of your club in. The ground had tons of divots. There are plastic mats to tee off of but no tees to go with it. If they implemented the usage of the mats, the divots would be more scarce. read more

Very good practice facility in North SD County. Convenient off the 15 freeway across from great North County Fair Westfield Escondido. Cordial staff. Facility conditions (grass) are not perfect but sufficient enough to get the job done. Prefer to hit from the mats...I like the way the targets are positioned on the range where you can just align and fire away. Putting green is always complimentary. read more

Read some reviews and seems like people are being stingy with their starts . Most don't know what it takes to run a business and make money. I bought a jumbo sized bucket of golf balls for my dad and I. I'm not sure if it's a gimmick but after paying for them, the cashier threw on a whole two more handfuls of golf balls! My dad says they do this to make you feel better and I'm sure I fell for it. I really liked the driving range here because they have the option of using fake grass vs. real grass. They also have a variety of targets that are on man made sand bars. I just couldn't get pass the bugs. I am allergic to mosquitoes and I didn't know that this place was so close to a swamp. Even with mosquito repellent, there were a variety of flies and insects attacking me constantly. If you can get past the bugs, this is an awesome driving range! read more

The Hodges Golf Learning Center is a nice facility with grass and mat hitting areas, putting green and short game area. They also have a decent retail area for commomly needed equipment and gizmos. Seems th be a little less expensive than Golf Mart. You can purchase discount cards that help with the cost of a bucket of balls and using the short game area. The range is lighted so night practice is available. Recent heat has created challenges on the putting green but they are letting the grass grow a little fuzzy to help hold moisture. The owners are nice people and seem to care about the quality of practice balls and the hitting areas. Seems they have been introducing new balls into the mix. The one thing they could do is lay a thin layer of soil on the grass hitting areas to level out the divots. read more

Best place to learn how to play the game of golf. Always has grass to hit from as well as matts. Short game area is in great shape, I find myself getting more and more up an down pars because of it. It's not bad and it's not the best...great for working on your swing. It reminded me off Tin Cup with Kevin Costner. The range has a little grass but mostly dirt with some markers and a few barrels out there where you try to get your ball in. The sun beats down you in the morning. It's 170 balls for 15 bucks for a large bucket. And 5 bucks to use the putting green. read more

went here on a saturday morning recently, expecting it to be packed. Nope, busy but not overly packed. Prices were reasonable for what you get (i did the range plus short game area deal). Range had real grass for the same price as mats. Short game area was functional and fairly well maintained, but nothing incredible. I have been going to this place for three years. I like this place because you can hit off grass or mats as you wish. Owners Chen and his wife are super friendly. For $5 more than the Range ball fee, they have a short game practice area. You can also contract PGA professionals to help your game. So it's a chilly winter night but one wants to engage in some activity before calling it a night. Where does one go?? The nighttime driving range, of course. This place is well lit at night and open late -- until 9pm, I believe. The range balls are fairly priced -- 100 balls for $10. They have one side with grass (but irons only) and the other side has mats, some with tees, some without. Like another practice only place (Stadium Golf), they charge for short game practice. Only a few dollars and I get they need to make money. But someone who is used to chipping and putting for free at any golf courses, this concept has always bothered me. So I'd come here for range time, especially at night, but save my short game practice for one of the many (free!) golf courses around town. read more

This is one of the better stand alone driving ranges in the area. But The reason for the 3 star rating is Stadium Golf, about 20 minutes to the south, is in significantly better condition. That driving range pretty much sets the standard and unfortunately, this range comes up a bit short. It is serviceable though. There are plenty of stalls. I like that one side is mats only and the other side is grass only. The actual range itself is mostly dirt. That's not a huge deal for me but it makes it a little tougher for me to see where my ball lands sometimes. They do have a short game area for $5, but if you drive about five minutes away The Vineyards golf course has a free putting and chipping area that is much nicer in my opinion. The prices here are about average for a driving range. The pro shop could really use some work. There really isn't much in there. I think this is where they lose at least one star for me. I know nothing of the golf business, but I'd think having a fully stocked pro shop could help bring in some extra revenue. But hey, what do I know. All in all, this isn't a bad place to practice your game. As I said earlier, it does the job. Just don't expect anything like Stadium if that's what you're used to. read more

I've been here 3 or 4 times now, and I give 'em the A-OK stamp of approval. They aren't the cheapest driving range I've been to, but you have the option to hit off of either pads or real grass, which isn't that common. Their balls seem to be rotated out every few months as well; I may not hit well anyway, but it's pretty obvious when a golf ball feels like a rock because it's well beyond it's useful lifetime. All that said, I'd give it 4 stars if I wasn't told I had to pay extra to be able to chip and putt. Most courses/clubs have those services available at no cost, regardless of membership status, etc. But just like Ahnold, I'll be bock, I'm sure. read more

Went here to hit some golf balls with my friends. The guy who drove the cart that picks up all the balls was driving in front about 30 feet away. He suddenly turned around right when I was hitting the ball and I accidentally hit the cart. The guy stops the cart, yells at me saying "that's what I was trying to avoid" and all this stuff. I'm literally standing there apologizing and he didn't even care. I told him that it was an accident. Probably won't go back there due to their rude behavior towards customers. I'm just a beginner and it wasn't very welcoming. read more

Prices are decent...wish it were cheaper...like everything else in the world! =P anyways...I got a range card to save me some money. The driving range itself is pretty good. Mats are a little worn, but if you go when its not busy, you can find a good mat. They also have grass tees, which is a good option to have. I have 2 problems with the place. One, the yardage markers are measured from one point, so if you arent hitting from the middle, your range is off. I rather they have sticks on the range and something in each stall (or near a bunch of stalls) telling you how far each stick is. My other problem is that the wind is ALWAYS blowing against you! I already cant hit very far, and now my range is shorter! But overall, I do enjoy coming here, so I'm not complaining that much =P Putting green is always nice and well kept. They have a short game area that seems well kept. I havent been in there yet ($5 all day), and will probably check it out one of these days. Overall, I enjoy this place. If it had accurate yardage from each stall, it would get 5 stars. =) read more

This is a great driving range. It is decently priced and they have some combo deals. The deals include a bucket of range balls (various sizes) and access to the short game area. It is never too busy, even around 5pm on weekdays there are still several spots open. The lights work very well to light up the entire range at night. However there are no lights in the short game area. So if you get the combo deal late in the afternoon, I recommend doing the short game before the bucket of balls. I went with a friend and we had to cut our short game practice short because of lack of light. Just before sunset, you are hitting into the sun so it is easy to loose track of your balls. I would recommend going a couple of hours before sunset or waiting till after sunset and the lights are on. read more

I'm new to golf and have been looking for the best accessible and friendly golf centers. A friend of mine who is a avid golf player, recommended Hodges to me. I went on a Wednesday afternoon (6pm), and It was perfect. When I went into the main lobby to buy a bucket of golf balls, the staff was friendly and very attentive to me being a new customer. Explained the prices and the different packages they have. The prices are very accessible, and there's plenty of space to hit. They offer putting surfaces, and the driving range has turf or grass. This was my first time visiting and I plan to visit again. read more

Your choice, Grass or Mat... Prices are fairly cheap: $6 for 35 balls, $8 for 75 balls. You are only allowed to hit irons off the grass, but at least half the people were hitting drivers and woods, LOL. Location is ideal - right next to the i-15 freeway and across from North County Fair Mall. Only gripe is that every time I come here, I'm hitting into the sun and you can barely see where the ball lands. read more

I don't go to many golf ranges but this place was friendly and they are open until 10pm. They also rent out clubs for $1 if you don't have any on you. They have a mat and a grassy section, but neither have shade coverings. Price is alright ($10 for 100 balls), overall great place to hit! read more

The only thing i don't like is that they charge you 10 bucks to use the pitch and putt area, I think its kind of rip. I love this place. We recently moved to Escondido and needed to find a new course and new practice facility. hodges is perfect and on my way home from work. The location is ideal for hitting balls after work. I didn't like the putting green at all. They should definitely tend to it. I rely heavily on my putting game and if I were to practice on this green I would lose my skill for sure. They lost a star for this reason. Otherwise, the place is great! They have snack, drinks, TVs and a place to lounge inside and outside and parking is plentiful. I can't wait to go back and gain more skills. read more

I came here last night for the first time ever. I looked online and they were open until 10pm so I came here to work out my new R11 driver before I hit CMR country club on Saturday. They have 4 different sizes of Baskets to choose from, I know prices range from around $8-$13 if am not mistaken. They have 2 areas to hit from which is pretty awesome. A grass area (which actually closes at 9) and the turf or fake grass mats which closes at 10pm. I went to go putt afterwards and i was a little disappointed that the putting green at the far end of the facility was fake and it rolled super fast. I would advise coming here early in th evening before the sun goes down because once the sun goes down, its almost impossible to see how far you hit the ball. I could only tell whether I hit the ball straight or not. I couldnt tell how far i hit it because the lights do not go out very far on the range. Ill give it 4 stars and i plan to come back and do it all over again and see how my 2nd time goes. -1 star for the fake putting green at the far end and also the lighting situation. read more

I came when there was no mosquito or bugs in winter, so I can not comment on bugs. This was right off the highway and really convenient. You gotta love the low cost, nice range, chipping, and putting area. You can get lessons on site. Easy parking. read more
