I'd be surprised if she doesn't make her own salsa though I cannot confirm. If you are wine-tasting, order here and take back to your hotel. We enjoyed it more than Los Hernandez tamales. The staff was very welcoming and the restaurant seemed clean. 5:00 on a Thursday and there was only one other table with people. As to be expected from a small-town eatery. The salsa was a tad spicier than we normally find for table chips and salsa, but good. The chips weren't very big and a lot of them were broken up. I had a burrito asado with a horchata and my wife had a chicken chimichanga. They are both fine. Not great, not bad. I did like the whole beans though. The portion sizes were huge. The horchata tasted a bit more 'watery' than I like. Not a bad experience for a small town.

These are the old-timers..the ones with great stories who have known each other for decades. One guys dad was chief of police in the 20's, another couple guys went to high school in the 30's. There is even a cool older guy who will eat mustard by the spoonful and you can watch (mustard relieves cramps by the way). So yea, the atmosphere is what makes this place. The staff have ALWAYS been super friendly, the food is traditional fare for a diner..plenty and hearty. Nothing fancy here and that is the allure of it. Like you are still in small America in the 50's just having breakfast with friends and family. Visit them..watch the crowd..talk with people...and don't be afraid to get your own coffee if the staff is busy but if you do, be kind and offer to refill every ones cup.

The brown butter cake, which our server described to us as "if a funnel cake and a churro had a baby", was the highlight of dinner. The atmosphere is where the restaurant is lacking, especially in two areas: We sat in the booth underneath a high window, which had a black covering that produced a weird optical illusion from our angle. The other issue was that the bright white bulbs in the chandeliers bounced off the painted cinder-block walls in a way that could cause a migraine. Even after our server dimmed the lights for us, I chose to wear my husband's baseball cap to prevent any vision issues.
