I was in Prosser for my son's wedding and ran across this restaurant. We got in the restaurant about 15 minutes before closing ask if it was ok and without hesitation the manager said no problem. We ended up here because the Thai place a few doors down is takeout only... and I'm so glad we did! We had lunch and I was hesitant but got the lunch portion of chicken mole. It was so delicious!!!! Very flavorful and tender and even the rice and beans are super good. My husband got the beef chimichanga and he loved it - said the beef is very flavorful. The staff are magnificent. They remember us whenever we come in and even what my girlfriend's "usual" is == the ceviche (oh crap--El Caporal makes some outstanding shrimp ceviche!!). And then there are the drinks. Of course we've gone with Mexican beers (tonight, the Bohemian bottled beer was tasty in my frosted mug). But then there is their tequila. We went with Don Julio Silver and wow, they make truly full pours, and supply you with many slices of lime, although you can get along with one slice, because it's oh so smooth. This place is always open, too. So yeah, Prosser is slowly beginning to explode on the culinary scene with all the wine tourism they are surrounded by, and with old standards like El Caporal, be sure to always make a pitstop in Prosser! read more

We came on by when we needed something delicious during a stop in Prosser for the great balloon festival. Some friends have gone here before and said it was solid so we decided to check it out. The Decour inside is exactly what you expect from an established Mexican restaurant in a smaller town. Lively and very classic. This also the came out with the chips was a little on the spicy side, I'm not sure if they had a milder option, but I'm probably in the minority for wanting such things. It was a little bit surprised they didn't serve tamales here and pork was not an option for many of the dishes. For those of us that have a swine love that runs deep, this is a definite let down. Nonetheless, we persevered and among the four of us tried the chimichanga, some enchiladas, a burrito and some tacos. The enchiladas were good. Mine were made with chicken and came on the classic inside of a hot pocket temperature, ceramic love a plate. It did a nice job of keeping the rice and beans warm! The other dishes were all exactly as you would expect them, good, but not incredible. Very classic, and definitely a place that you would go if you lived in the area. As it stands, Yakima, my hometown, is basically Mac out when it comes to Mexican food. This place was good, but not better than anything that we have around home. In addition, it would be great to see the menu expand just a little bit, if nothing else in terms of meat offerings. Worth going to try out, especially if you live here. read more

Based on the reviews we read before coming in, I had high hopes for great tasting food and an overall pleasant experience. We were seated pretty quickly, fresh corn chips and a delicious salsa were brought out really quickly, and then we waited. And waited. And waited - for someone to come and take our drink order. After we decided what we wanted, from drinks to appetizers to entrees, and we'd both used the restroom, we still had time to polish off the chips and salsa. We were only 1 of 5 tables that had two waiters and a busser. When our server approached us he simply asked, "are you ready?" and we ordered everything right away. Our drinks and food came out really, really quickly- one frozen and one Otr margarita, ceviche, and a fajita combo of shrimp and chicken. The ceviche was a little chewy and oily, but the fajita combo was really tasty, and I was really considering buying a jar of salsa to bring home. Unfortunately the bar staff was in the middle of a cleaning project that included the use of a vacuum that was so screechy, that we couldn't have a conversation. It went on and on for the entire length of our dinner, and it left me with a ringing in my ears that took quite a while to subside. At one point I asked our server if he could ask them to stop and he said "they're not done yet, sorry." I have to admit, I was shocked by this. It was the middle of the dinner rush and they were cleaning upholstery NOW? Needless to say, we ate as quickly as possible and got out of there. I passed through Prosser, and wanted a Cinco de Mayo dinner. El Caporal was highly recommended by a local. My seafood enchilada was basic. The shrimp fajitas looked good -- I wish I'd have ordered them. They brought chips and salsa, and the chips were good, but the salsa was super watery and bland. Being hungry, we ate it. And when they brought new dishes of salsa, it was fantastic, like they had opened a new container, and we were getting something fresh. That was the highlight of the meal. The margaritas were run of the mill cheap tequila and bottled mix. The service was OK. After dinner we went next door to Bern's Tavern. That was fun. read more

You just have to love small town restaurants, especially when they produce some tasty food. I went here a little later in the evening so there were only about 4 other families in there. It's a decently sized place too so it almost seems like we didn't see those 4 families at all! The menu is quite large. One of the people I was with refered to it as "The Bible of Mexican Food." There are several pages with loads to choose from and there is a little section that serves as the lunch menu. The prices also seemed typical to a little pricey for each meal but they can get away with it since there isn't many dining options in the town. El Caporal was a family favorite back in the day, but recently the service has been complete trash. We went in today and there was only one server for a Friday night. We waited five minutes to be sat (which I get that the server was probably busy and I've worked in the restaurant industry) and then we watched as our server sat two other tables. After we were sat, two other tables came in after us. The server decided to skip taking our order. However, she did not forget to take the order of the two other tables that had walked in after us. We waited thirty minutes for our order to be taken and watched as the other tables, who again arrived after us, got their food. We ended up waiting over an hour for food and service. It was so bizarre. I'd like to say this was the first time, but it will most likely be our last time. read more

Being a local of the Yakima Valley, I know good Mexican food the minute I smell it. Growing up I frequented this spot and every time I come home for a visit I demand that someone meet me down here before I make my rounds with family and friends. My family/friends know that the minute I hit Yakima I'm going to be calling people to figure out who's had dinner/lunch. I ALWAYS order the nachos, which I know is lame but I LOVE me some nachos. They have the best beans here and the best homemade salsa I've ever tasted. The spicy is super spicy so I always follow it up with a dish of the mild which I practically drink it's so tasty. The chips are always hot and the service is always quick. I will note that I've had way better margaritas else where but when dealing with the family tequila is tequila. read more

I practically moved in here while I was in Prosser during my wine apprenticeship. I think it is family owned and it was busy every night with people dining in and also picking up take-out. The chimichangas were especially good along with the fresh nachos and burritos. The service when dining in can be very slow, but you don't have much of a choice out there and the food is definitely worth the wait. Great margaritas!!! read more

Only giving a one star because I have to. This has to be one of the worst places I have ever been to. Very unprofessional and understaffed with a grumpy old lady siting at a table on her phone! Waited 20 minutes just to get drinks!! Not to mention the shredded beef tasted bland with no flavor at all! Staff was very rude! Thought it would be a quick nice place to stop by since all the reviews were pretty positive but even the place looks very unsanitary! This used to be one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. In the last year or so they've changed their prices and their menu a bit and it isn't the same. You have to pay extra for the rice and beans that normally should come on the side of many dishes. They have raised their prices so that everything is quite a bit more expensive than Mexican food in neighboring cities. Sad to say, but though their food is pretty good, I usually choose elsewhere to eat nowadays. read more
