From the moment we walked in, Azteca made a strong impression. We were seated quickly, and the decorations immediately caught our attention. There is a lot of character in the space, and it sets the tone for a relaxed, enjoyable meal. Service was excellent across the board. The busser, waitresses, and bartender were attentive, friendly, and genuinely interested in how we were enjoying everything. It never felt forced, just good, natural hospitality. Our order was taken quickly, and the bartender even offered drink recommendations and explained how she prepares them, which was a nice touch. We went with the house margaritas, and they did not disappoint. Great flavor, the right amount of tequila, and a portion that actually feels worth the price. After visiting some of the "fancier" spots nearby and paying $18 or more for a small drink, it was refreshing to get something twice as good for about half the cost. The food followed that same theme. We ordered the nachos and were immediately impressed by the portion size. Plenty to share, packed with flavor, and the picadillo meat was tender and delicious. The tortilla soup was another win. Rich, comforting, and exactly what you hope it will be. Every time we have visited, the consistency has been there. One thing that really stood out was what hits the table right after you sit down. Warm chips served with both salsa and refried beans for dipping. The flavors were great, not overly spicy, and the free refills are hard not to appreciate these days. Honestly, that alone is enough reason to come back. The ambiance deserves recognition too. The lighting is slightly dim without being dark, Spanish music plays in the background, and the bar is beautifully stocked. It creates the feeling of a lively Mexican gathering place. Azteca is not trying to be upscale, and that is exactly its strength. It is the kind of restaurant where you can show up with friends or family, relax, and just be yourself. Stopped by for lunch with coworkers. Place was very busy, seemed clean in the dinning area. Waitress recommended we go over the seafood fresh sheet. Coworker orders shrimp empanadas. I ordered chicken tacos al carbon, asked if I'd like to make any substitutes I asked for rancho beans & side salad. Was told I had to pay extra even tho it was named as a substitute option. After waiting a few mins waitress came back and told us they were unable to make the empanadas and we only had 20mins left on our lunch. As we had ordered long before that. When my meal came the beans were cold and the "side salad" was a very small potion. I will say my coworkers ordered drinks and they were Strong. I am sad to write this review because I have been eating a Azteca for over 20 years and it has been my go to place. The ambiance at the Canal location is horrible and ruins what should be an outstanding meal. One is basically eating in the bar with horrendous noise from the kitchen and bar crowd. The staff is courteous and helpful, the food delicious but how can you enjoy it when the noise is so bad you can't carry on a conversation with the one you are with. BEST Mexican restaurant in the Tri-Cities/Walla Walla area! The staff here was incredibly friendly and the food was surprisingly delicious. I normally order combinations off of the menu at Mexican restaurants but decided to go off script and try something different. I decided to try their Tacos Al Carbon (with steak based on the waitresses' recommendation) and WOW! The tacos were SO tasty! The beef was juicy and tasty rather than dry and chewy you tend to find at other places. Their drinks are also great here--alcoholic or non. If you don't drink alcohol, their Virgin mojitos are AMAZING. Definitely ask about all of the flavors they have to offer--they have many more that they can make that might not be listed on their menu. Overall, I definitely recommend this place to anyone! I had the best 40th birthday here with my little family. The server was attentive and the fajitas and tacos were delicious. The best part was the birthday dessert. They sing, give you a sombrero to wear and bring out fried ice cream with a firework. It was really special and fun! We took a photo by the birthday floral board on our way out the door. This was the worst meal I have ever had. Just simple nachos with ground beef. The ground beef was like the gruel that they make dog food out of. It used to be one of my favorite restaurants, but lately it has gotten so expensive and servings have shrunk! Less food for more money! Quality has also gone down. Rice is not as good as it was before, chips are more like crumbs, makes me think they're using leftovers. Servers aren't as attentive. Takes them too long to return with what was asked for them to bring, IF they ever return to check on table!!! Not sure Azteca will be in my top picks from now on!! Well folks, I'm here. Back in the Tri-Cities for the first time as a vegan for the holidays. I can't say I didn't see the drought of good food coming, but it's been a whammy of a time so far. That said, Azteca on Canal gave me a small but very welcome respite! Their menu contains a "Veg-Mex" section with a few options like vegan lettuce wraps, a vegan chili and spinach enchiladas. I opted for the veggie fajitas (vegan without the cheese and sour cream), which came with guacamole, white rice and rancho beans. It was a veggie paradise piled high with carrots, broccoli, zucchini, peppers and onions. The rice and beans were delicious as well, especially topped with plenty of salsa. Long story short, Azteca was such a pleasant surprise and easily one of the best vegan dinners I had out at a restaurant in the Tri-Cities on my visit. Having not been impressed when we ate at the Azteca location that used to be in the Columbia Center Mall, we were hesitant to try this location when they opened. We had an Azteca gift card we hadn't used in over a year, though, so figured we would give this location a shot. Chips, guacamole, and warm chips were what we had to start -- they were DELICIOUS! For my entree, I ordered a two item platter made up of two cheese enchiladas, black beans, and white rice. Let me say that these were the BEST cheese enchiladas I have ever had! The red sauce that topped them was to die for, and I am usually not a fan of any sort of red sauce. The beans and rice were fresh and tasty, too. He ordered a platter with shredded beef tacos, and was so very happy with the consistency and lack of gristle on the meat. Thus, these were a nice treat for him as this is usually not what shredded beef is like at other establishments. Lastly, customer service was killer; our waiter was so, so very friendly and accommodating! We felt very welcome. To make a long story short, we WILL be back! Thanks, Azteca! read more

I've been eating at Azteca Restaurants for at least 28 years and this was the worst experience I've ever had! The beans that were served were old, dry and crusty. The chicken was tough, clearly poor quality and the soup that I have always loved was served in a super tiny cup, if you can even call it a cup. And there wasn't anyone for karaoke night. As a bachelorette party, it was a bust. As a fun night out, it was a bust. If you advertise drink specials, you have to honor it. I have never ordered over the phone to Azteca. I have always gone in. So I decided to call in an order because I have a ton of homework to do. I call the one on Canal Dr. A kid answers the phone I said I would like to make an order to go. He said ok and nothing. I was like ok are you there he said yes. I asked him are you going to take my order. He said yes I asked him if he would like my name he said yes. By this time I was like really. So I continued. I said I wanted a chicken sandwich. He said they don't serve chicken sandwiches. I said I was just on your web site and looked at the menu my son would like a chicken sandwich. He still proceeded to tell me that they don't serve them. I asked to talk to someone else who had knowledge of the menu. He didn't say hold on he had the phone still to his ear and answers a personal question from someone there. I said I didn't ask for a manager I asked for someone other than you that knows the menu. He said this is my second day. He then asked if I waned to still order. I said yes I would like a chicken sandwich He said Mam I already told you we don't serve chicken sandwiches. I hung up I was mad at this point. I called the Azteca on 10th. I asked the guy do you have chicken sandwiches he said yes I asked him then why doesn't your other store not serve them he said they do I told him who ever answered the phone told me they don't. So I ordered shrimp fajitas, chicken sandwich and nachos. I was asked if I want a gentleman at the register ordering so I waited. The lady wasn't done with the gentlemen and started talking to me. She asked table for two I said no she asked to pick up I said yes. She proceeded to ask me for my ID. I was like since when do you ask for ID to pick up an order. I said what if I had sent in my son to pick up the order she said I would need you to. I was like what. She had my licence and had somebodies credit card comparing the names to mine. This is the first time my husband and I ate here. Honestly very bad experience the lady who attended us was very rude she treated me like an imbecile I wanted to order a plate of carnitas but they don't have it listed so I asked her if they can make one like the asada plate but instead substitute asada for carnitas she rudely answered asada is beef and carnitas is pork so which is it. I ended up ordering Chile verde in pork it's called Chile for spice right they should have called it pork in green tomato because that's all I tasted tomatoes. Like I know the difference I was just giving an example of the plate I wanted. My husband order a cocktail they asked him cold warm or hot he said cold and they brought it hot.
