Great coffee! I had a cold brew. The flavor of the coffee is the best I've had in Richmond. The baristas here seem really knowledgeable and have interesting suggestions for things to get. One suggestion is to create a menu of drinks. I love coffee but am not very creative in thinking of kinds of drinks that could be created. I would love for the owners/baristas here to put their creativity on display with a menu of drinks because I am sure it would be amazing. This is probably my new favorite coffee shop in Richmond (and I'm a big fan of Lamplighter, Roastology, Black Hand, and Rostov's). Now each of the other coffee shops I mentioned all have their own vibe, and I think Fuel Pump has nailed their niche and vibe. Fuel pump recently extended their hours so they are open daily, at a wider timeframe. The customer service here is the best I've experienced at any coffee shop in Richmond. Aaron and Gabsy allowed me to taste their options before ordering, they are extremely friendly, and even checked in on me as I was sipping my coffee and doing work. They even offer discounts to repeat local customers. Prices are on par with other coffee shops in the area, coffee has become more expensive over the past couple years, but the excellent customer experience has made that price hike more bearable. Fuel pump is not just a coffee shop. They serve wine, beer, tea and more. They recently added shade to their outdoor seating which is perfect for the upcoming summer heat. We do not live in the Richmond area, but every time we drive through, we make it a point to stop at this coffee shop and try something new. I am a coffee lover and Fuel Pump has been my go-to café in Richmond. The owner, Aaron, is very passionate about the service and quality he provides to his customers. He really takes the time to get to know the people that visit his shop. You can tell he has a loyal customer base that keep coming back for a reason- it feels like a community. This is also the first time I have ever experienced a cocktail style coffee shop that creates individualized coffee drinks based on the flavor profiles the person likes. I just had the best experience here with Aaron. He was so kind and provided a curated coffee experience! To be honest, I was expecting just a good ole cup of coffee, but Aaron got me hip to their house made syrups. It is a dope spot! To add, this is major for me, Aaron self corrected when he used gendered greetings/responses, as in saying "Yes ma'am...oop I mean sure." And he did so unprompted. I give this place 5 stars for having a stellar tea selection. They carry Bellocq Teas which is out of Brooklyn, NY. Their blends are so lovely hot or iced. It's really hard to find cafes in Richmond with high quality tea so I was so glad when this spot opened. I didn't order food when I went but I saw them bring out tartines for another customer and I will definitely be back to try out the food. The service was friendly and welcoming. Checked out Fuel Pump for the first time this past Sunday morning! It is definitely different then your local coffee shop! I got ice coffee and added milk, that's basically the coffee option they have so if you are looking for something in specific like a latte or americano, this isn't where ya wanna go. For breakfast I got the everything bagel with cream cheese and avocado smash with relish! Food was great but, if you are in a rush, don't go here! It took about 25 minutes to come out and they weren't busy. On a brighter note, they do have a nice looking happy hour, check out the pic attached! Opening morning - I admired the wide open and inviting interior space that was once a very dark and cramped Italian coffee bar. It is quite airy and inviting especially on a nice spring or fall day on their outdoor patio (prime real estate in Carytown). The menu is pretty limited (and not posted anywhere) at this time but the lattes we got were very good (albeit a bit small). I was told they'd feature their espresso drinks and wine and beer selections. Friendly service and lots of potential, we'll be back for another taste soon. read more

What a joke! This place is literally and figuratively empty. This was once a really fantastic like italian coffee shop and cafe: restaurant with FANTASTIC food. I stopped here dying of thirst just wanting a snack and water, but I walked in and the place is now just a bunch of tables and stools with no art or color anywhere and blank walls with no menus as the other review mentioned- completely devoid of character with a logo in the same front as Mellow Mushroom down the street so at first glance I thought the old restaurant had been replaced by a pizza shop! They have a tiny little 4X6" size menu in small font with about 9 things on it down by the register. I was confused and disappointed to say the least... I walked in and took one look at the menu with very few options or alternatives, wasn't acknowledged by anyone and simply walked out and walked across the street to 7-11 for a water instead. This is basically a place for people to stop and sit on their laptops and nothing else. Or if you're me, buy your food from 7/11 and then come over and sit on their patio... Kind of the dumbest store front i've ever seen. Sad the old place is gone! read more

I was in town this past weekend and stopped by for an afternoon pick me up. I had an excellent iced latte! The flavor was excellent. They were out of nonfat milk so I went with almond milk which I don't usually love, but it blended so nicely with the espresso. The barista consciously did less milk so it wouldn't overwhelm the espresso and I really appreciated that as well. The chalkboard wall is fun to draw on, and the mural outside highlights the Richmond Kickers! If I lived in the Fan I would definitely be a regular here. read more

Mediocre at best in comparison to other carytown coffee options. They dont have a visible menu up on the wall, just a small stand at the register and it wasnt complete with all the options. I asked if they had something I normally order at every coffee shop, but I didn't see it on the menu. They did have it (though one of the employees didn't know) and it was really not great and overpriced. Had I paid $2.50 maybe it would have been worth it, but at almost $5 for a mostly ice, not filled all the way latte, I'll pass. The space is awkward and too industrial feeling. Aesthetically cozy little spot. My husband and I stopped by with our 10 month old in a stroller, 4 yr old and 9 yr old. We ordered the older kids got chocolate and we each got lattes. Super inviting and the barista was welcomed us warmly. It's 42 degrees out and about 5:30 pm on a Saturday night so they weren't awfully busy and we were able to push the stroller in easily and find seats. My kids enjoyed their hot cocoa and my husband and I enjoyed a warm break from the cold chill and walking. If we lived closer to Richmond, we'd probably visit more often and try out the food. There wasn't a menu board that I could immediately see but there was a small sign with drink menu listed by the barista/cashier station. The outdoor area was pretty decent in size; with a few heat lamps it would make a nice outdoor area for hot coffee in the cooler evenings.
