Great time grabbing dessert at fudge farm in the waterfront. It was busy when we stopped by over the weekend in the evening. The line to order was out the door. There was still plenty of seating outside and the staff were very friendly despite the crowd. The ambience was nice and I enjoyed the swings outside the shop as well. They had displays with all the fudge and other sweets. There were lots of dessert options and we decided to get the Finn McCool mania milkshake. It's very fun how all the milkshakes are named after local Pittsburgh businesses. The milkshake was very delicious and filling. It had a whole brownie on top and lots of chocolate chips inside. Very solid spot to get some tasty treats, and the location is pretty cool as well. They have homemade fudge, chocolate, and milkshakes. They have 2 categories of milkshakes: essentially, the classics (vanilla, peanut butter, chocolate, etc) and 'Mania' shakes (that are...extreme). I tried a Mania shake called the Double Wide. The Double Wide comes with peanut butter ice cream, a chocolate chip cookie, and a brownie. It's extravagant to say the least. Price wise, I thought it was okay, but a tad expensive. Portion was about average. The milkshake itself wasn't anything all that special. I didn't really taste much peanut butter in the ice cream to be honest. The brownie and chocolate chip cookie were thrown into the ice cream...the brownie was kind of dry and not the best, but the chocolate chip cookie had lots of chocolate and was delicious. It appears they have closed down :( My partner and I planned our entire Valentines day around getting our favorite milkshakes ever. We love the taste, its our favorite. The South Side location was the closest to us and after that shut down we have to make a trip out of it because the Waterfront location is so far. I love all of the little shops and other eateries, its a fun environment. When we walked up to where the store used to be, the glass is painted in a winter landscape, the sign was ripped down and the swing outside, gone. Their social media says absolutely nothing about their closing (and it looks like their facebook was hacked by another company?) Im so SO sad. My girlfriend and I were roaming around waterfront and we were craving something sweet, so we stopped into fudge farm to grab a milkshake to share! I forgot which one we got, but whatever the specialty topping was they were out of it, so they let us pick one! We chose the peppermint fudge which was delicious! The ice cream tasted a little weird tho, and I'm not sure if it was old or if our tastebuds were just off tonight, but something didn't taste completely right! Came in today with a couple friends who hadn't tried Fudge Farm yet. The four of us got The Flats, Smiling Moose, and Jaggerbush. Everybody really enjoyed what they got but these shakes can be a bit of sugar overload! I definitely recommend sharing a shake if you can. Stopped here for the first time to try some of their fudge and chocolates, and was surprised by the offerings for the milkshakes. We didn't try a milkshake, but plan to stop again and try one! We bought a few different types of the fudge, and we were very impressed with the quality and how good it was. The taste was perfect. Some of the best fudge we've had. We also tried some of their chocolates. I was slightly less impressed with these, as the chocolate was not the quality I expected it to be with how good the fudge was! Great in some ways, could be better in others. I actually purchased a sundae because I wanted to see what the ice cream itself was like, being the base of the shakes and all. Unfortunately, it was just ehh, and I didn't finish it. I didn't have many options to begin with, because they were out of a lot of ingredients on a slow weekday in the early evening (My friends ended up just purchasing plain shakes). I was also put off by the staff. For some reason, there was a vibe like we weren't wanted there/we were bothering them for interrupting the slow downtime. The prices are fairly high if you're getting something basic with ice cream that's of average quality. I would much rather go to a shop with stellar homemade ice cream for a sundae or a basic shake, and pay way less for what I consider as better. The positives: I loved the shop itself, including the environment itself and the fun swings, having been able to utilize them at a dead time. Wow what can I say?! Well I have a mouthful to say if it's not stuffed with something Fudge Farm! I mean this is the absolute BEST chocolate and fudge I have ever tasted! They offer samples of anything you would like to try....I especially like their rendition of the turtle, (Milk Nutty Pecans) it is absolutely delightful. My favorite fudge would have to be the chocolate peanut butter; it's just the perfect combination of smoothness and sweetness. The atmosphere is pleasant and immaculately maintained. This place had one of the best milkshakes I've ever tried, and let me tell you... I drink A LOT of milkshakes. I love that the staff takes their time making these to ensure you get a pretty treat that tastes amazing. This place reminds me quite a bit of the Pittsburgh Milk Shake Factory, but they are trying to be just a little fancier. I had to try something and as I walked in, I saw exactly what I wanted walking out the door! It was a dark chocolate raspberry shake with a large chocolate covered marshmallow on top! The customer looked completely overwhelmed by the size of the shake!! I ordered the same thing, but asked for a dark chocolate covered marshmallow, that's what they gave me and it was very good. Basically a Perry's Ice Cream "Queen of Hearts" milkshake, that means nice rich chocolate, little chocolate hearts filled with raspberry syrup, and raspberry swirl. They top it off with the marshmallow and whipped cream, and a very cool thing is that they dip the cup in chocolate! Not sure I really liked the dipped cup because it seemed to have paraffin in it ala DQ, and it didn't quite seem to fit with the high quality that everything else was. It really hit the spot, the only thing that prevented 5 stars was it might have been just a smidge smaller than PMSF, and a little thin, either less ice cream, or in the blender too long. Pretty much the only good thing was that the service was quick. This was our first time at both the Waterfront and Fudge Farm. We found the Fudge Farm website and decided to drive out and make an afternoon of walking the trail and getting what we hoped would be glorious milkshakes. Unfortunately ours looked NOTHING like what is pictured online. We ordered 9 milkshakes. 3 of them were just basic strawberry, chocolate, vanilla. What we got was pretty much your basic milk shake. Not much to say. They were okay. BUT we ordered 6 Mania Shakes and all were disappointing. They looked nothing like they did online. It was essentially the basic looking shake with a the cookie or pretzel thrown on top of the whipped cream. No drizzle, sauce sprinkles or any pizazz like show. My husband wanted to surprise me with Chocolate Walnut Fudge (my favorite & the ONLY fudge I eat) for my 65th birthday; so he went to The Fudge Farm in the Waterfront. Fudge looked really pretty: 1/2 of a cylinder shape, nice color, looks creamy, but not many walnuts. Wow - this is the strangest fudge ! No taste of chocolate. It is grainy like I'm eating brown sugar. Our daughter thought it had a hint of maple. Did find some walnuts. No more surprises. Major date day fail! The fudge tasted really strange! When we got home I went to eat the almond toffee. It was hard as a rock. There was no way to eat it!! I will start by saying that I love fudge so much. For years I have gone to every fudge shop that is anywhere near me. When I moved to Pittsburgh, I was so excited about this new fudge shop. I put the grand opening on my calendar, and my husband and I made a special stop to try the fudge, see the shop, and enter the advertised giveaway. When we walked in, the store looked lovely. But not one of the three workers even looked at us. There were only two other customers there. Not a smile or a simple hello, let alone a "welcome to our new store." We stood there silent looking at the flavors for a few minutes before anyone offered to let us try a sample, but they were not friendly or kind. We tried 2 samples and ended up buying a quarter pound of something. No one told us anything about the giveaway that was supposedly happening, and our fudge was a little pricier than what I have purchased in the past. I was not impressed with its flavor either. I ordered from the food truck at the outlets and half of the menu was sold out but it was not marked or I wouldn't have wasted my time standing in line. It took over a half hour to get my food even though there were only two people in front of me. My burger was so disgusting I actually had to spit it out. They also gave me half of a watered down lemonade and said they were sold out and that was all they had left. They were also out of iced tea, the only two drinks they offered. It was not the end of the day either it was only 3pm, about halfway through the day. The menu also said the drinks were 32 oz and it was 16 oz. I asked for a refund since my burger was inedible and I paid for a drink that was half a cup of ice and lemon water. They did give me a large amount of fries which tasted fine. This was by far the most disappointing food truck I have ever experienced. They also asked if I wanted to tip before I inserted my card. How am I supposed to tip before I get my food? What am i supposed to do say no right their face? I did not like that at all. $18 for a burnt burger and I'm glad I got a refund. read more
