Mango sticky rice bar inside the wrapper

I almost didn't stop here, figuring if you've seen one chocolate shop, you've seen them all. I couldn't have been more wrong! Mon Aimee introduced me to so many chocolates from around the world I never would have thought existed. My daughter and I took a full loop around the shop enthralled by both the artistry and the flavors. Finally, we enlisted help to find the perfect chocolate bar- a beautiful mango, sticky rice dark chocolate bar. The place is the opposite of a tourist trap. They know their stuff and I'd be back too often if I lived closer!

If you love chocolate then this is the place to be. Chocolate from all over. They do have the Dubai chocolate which is very pricey for a chocolate bar at around $27. They did have some small pieces to try which I did and it was amazing. Tried a chai tea bar which had a very unique taste but so good. Also had a chocolate raspberry bar. Love that combination.

    Best place to get chocolates!

Chocolate Heaven! Quality chocolates and excellent selection! They have chocolates from all over the world. They also sell local brands like lux. Vegan and gluten free are also available. The prices of international chocolates are pretty high. The Venchi chocolates were almost double of what I paid in NYC Also they do have some chocolates on sale. Don't forget to check the expiry/best used by dates. Heads up- you need to wear a mask to shop here. The staff is super knowledgeable and helpful. Parking- Its always a challenge to find parking in the area. If you're a chocolate lover, this is the place to be! I recommend.

My chocolate haul!! All international brands

When it comes to buying premium chocolates look no further than Mon Aimee chocolat. They carry a wide assortment of both domestic and international candies for sale and even have an area where you can have your own box made up. In the pre Co-Vid days they were selling Millie's ice cream to patrons but that is currently on hold for the time being. The carry some of the familiar brands you will find elsewhere but when it comes to the finest domestic or let alone international they have a great variety selection. During my recent visit I got help with my purchases from the owner Aimee herself. Although I've always been a fan of Belgium chocolates she advised me to consider other countries such as Brazil and now the Philippines. Whether you like white chocolate, milk, or dark, they carry it all. I ended up purchasing three candy bars from Theo and Philo, a Philippine provider who graduated from Carnegie Mellon and then set up his own shop. I was here for a Yelp Elite event that enabled me to buy an assortment of their candies at a discounted price. Inside that assortment was a Theo and Philo calamasi bar. It was so good I knew I had to buy more. My own assortment included their choco mango with coconut, dark chocolate with ginger and mint, and dark chocolate with green mango and salt. I'm sure I'll be pleased with these selections. At her suggestion I also purchased a Brazilian chocolate bar called Baru Nut from Mission chocolate. The bar comes completely wrapped in pretty packaging for gift giving. It's a bit on the pricey side but I'm sure it will be worth it. Finally to satisfy my Belgium whim I ended up purchasing a dark chocolate with roasted almond bar from Dolfin one of the top Belgium chocolatiers. I got to sample a couple of other items in my assortment that included a hot cocoa caramel, and a mini venchi dark bar. She carries chocolate covered pretzels and even gingerbread candy boxes. The latter looked tempting but will save that for a future visit. They have set up in the back a holiday assortment and if you need anything from there you need to ask since the back has been sectioned off for employees only. Vegan and gluten-free candy is also available. Check out their offerings from Hawaii! You can also shop online with mail delivery or curbside pickup. They do require you to sanitize your hands upon entering and masks are a must. Photography is prohibited in the store and you are asked to respect that. The selection is endless but there's something for everyone here. They now carry the outstanding line of A 519 chocolates which I have had before and are delicious from the first bite. Mon Aimee Chocolat is indeed one of the best hidden candy gems in the city and is worth a visit if you are in the Strip District of Pittsburgh. Located on Penn at 21st St, metered street parking is available.

Ritter chocolate bar with raisins and hazelnuts, bonbons from A519, and Mon Aimee coconut toffee macadamia

Quality chocolate and an excellent selection. Mon Aimee has chocolate from virtually anywhere in the world. You'll find some from Europe (France, Germany, etc), South America, Africa, and even some local brands like A519 and Lux Chocolate. They also make their own chocolates and truffles. Parking can be a bit of a struggle. There's a space near the macaroni factory, though. I tried their coconut toffee macadamia nut truffles, 5 pieces of A519 assorted bonbons, and a Ritter Sport milk chocolate bar with raisin and hazelnuts. The Ritter bar (a German brand) reminds me of the Aldi milk, raisin, and nut bar, but in a good way. Creamy chocolate and plenty of raisins. The bonbons were pretty standard, but what truly made them stand out was not the taste: it was their beauty. The design is truly excellent! The craftsmanship is evident. Their own products are great, too. It was chewy and moderately sweet. The Lux almond, macadamia nut, and coconut bar is also very nutty. It's not quite chocolatey and rich for me, though. Only element of the store that was a large drawback was the price: it's not cheap. But, it's great chocolate for gifting (or indulging).

I went to Mon Aimee Chocolat the other day. The store is pretty big and has an excellent selection. The staff are friendly and very helpful. I got some dark chocolate covered orange peel and some dark chocolate liquor filled candies. The candy was excellent and I would definitely go there again. My only complaint would be that prices seem to be on the way high side. I would still go back as they do have a great selection and the candy is top notch. They also carry a lot of local vendors any made in Pittsburgh.

A variety pack, milk chocolate truffle bar from France and a variety pack of truffles.

I hadn't been to this amazing shop in quite some time. I'm so glad I had an opportunity to go, browse and pick out some delicious chocolate for myself and also buy some as a gift. The ladies that work here are very nice, helpful and lovely. They have such an amazing and large selection of chocolates from all over the world! I think it's best to go on a weekday when there are less people, and really go through the entire shop and look at all they have to offer. Ask questions! The ladies are very helpful and assisted me in finding a new favorite chocolate bar. The variety pack they put together for the Yelp Elite group is so awesome with a great variety. I've only started tasting and so far, the three types of chocolate covered pretzels are delicious! I can't wait to go back before Christmas and check out their selections!

    Hmmm...not the smartest business owners.

Mon Aimee Chocolat is a store in the Strip District entirely devoted to selling chocolate. They try to sell chocolate that no other store in Pittsburgh sells. Because of that, you can find chocolate of all kinds from all countries around the world. My choice is their little hazelnut chocolates that come in a foil wrapper. It is sooooooo good! One odd thing to note is the owner strictly forbids photography inside. In the world of social media and peer review sites like Yelp, it seems odd, but to each their own.

World class chocolates from Brazil, an enormous variety for chocolate enthusiasts

This hidden gem of a chocolate vault is the place for a chocolate lover to dive into the eclectic and unique varieties of chocolate assortments. Home of world-class chocolates from across the globe, Mon Aimee Chocolat offers so of the candy that you will be literally lost in the mounds of chocolate lest you have someone yank you out of this Charlie Bucket dreamhouse or your parking meter expires (trust me, the parking fine would be better spent on treating your taste buds). The shop has much of the bread and butter chocolates: chocolate-covered strawberries, chocolate-covered pretzels, chocolate-anythings. However, where this place shines are really 1) the award-winning chocolates 2) the owner's knowledge of chocolates and 3) unique varieties. Ever heard of guava in chocolate? Well, that's pretty basic here - try Umbu, Cupuacu, or some other fruit-blend from the deepest regions of South America. Of course, this place would do well for chocolates as gifts, and most certainly adds flair to an otherwise cliche gift, because of these unique and award-winning chocolates. Just make sure these recipients understand the specialty of your chocolate gift, or perhaps let them know how much of a hole you are creating in your wallet.

Gift bag of assorted treats and some dark chocolate non pareils to go with red wine!
    Paula Z.

Lovely chocolate shop, gracious service. Delicious treats. Wanted to try the hot chocolate, alas not on Sundays. Very clean, covid precautions in place. I so wanted to stay longer and browse, but the traffic outside was terrible and my husband was circling the block waiting for me. We opted not to stay in the strip because of the crowds and many unmasked clusters of folks. Plan to return on a less crowded day. Meanwhile, the treats I purchased were lovely and we are enjoying the dark non-pareils very much.

This is an odd sort of review, because the only chocolates I've eaten from here were the ones she tutored us to create. And...well...they were magnificent. So rewinding a bit... I was looking for gift idea for SB. A friend at work pointed me to a link to a listicle or PG article about a chocolate making class. I'd never heard of it before. Completely in the weeds. When I went to A519's webpage, it was not intuitively obvious to me where I could go to sign up. BUT...it's listed under "products"...https://shop.a519chocolate.com/products/private-truffle-making-class There...I made a link for you. If you love chocolate, or you love someone who loves chocolate, this class was really fantastic. It broke down a bit like this...(2 hours) 1) Introductions/qualifications/backstory (5 minutes) 2) Presentation about cacao to chocolate...bean to bar. Terminology, taste, geography (10-15 minutes) 3) Tasting...taste various types of "raw materials" used to make chocolate truffles, white chocolate, dulce, milk chocolate, various percentages of dark chocolate up to 85% (20 - 30 minutes) 4) Making chocolates (the remainder) Informative, entertaining, delicious, and satisfying. It's a working kitchen, but doesn't take up a ton of space, so a six person class can be a bit cramped, but not uncomfortably so. There was plenty of space for each couple to follow instructions and hands-on. We first decorated molds using cocoa butter sprinkles (a la Jackson Pollock), then painted with an air brush, then made ganache and tempered chocolate and poured and scraped, cooled and broke molds, each couple taking home 24 BEAUTIFUL truffles. SB likes 'experience gifts', and this one was a great experience for us both. And the truffles WE made were amazing, so I can't imagine how good the ones Amanda (owner/chef) produces would be. Strongly encourage (think: valentine's day gift).

They recently opened a pop up shop in central Lawrenceville which will be open through Feb 2018. When I arrived I met Amanda Wright's husband who is in charge of the shop. Chocolate truffles come in different size boxes and are very expensive. You can still order from Amanda either on-line or call her shop where she produces them if you are unable to come out. Boxes range anywhere from two to a box for $4.00 to about fifteen in a box for $30.00. Although they are grouped by category such as caramels, you are permitted to mix and match to your liking. I decided to opt for a champagne filled truffle and a dark chocolate one. They were box very nicely and I ate them when I got home. Believe me as always they are to die for! These chocolates are to be savored. Wine pairing also helps you enjoy the flavors better. I don't mind have to shelve out a little extra cash when I know something is extra special and believe me I have never been disappointed in any or their high end chocolates. If you are able to get to central Lawrenceville during the holiday season this place is a must if you want to get some of the best candy in the city. Amanda can also custom design a box using sports teams or beautiful art. This makes a great gift for someone who is indeed a chocolate lover.
