I had an errand to run in Canonsburg today, so since I was in the area, I thought I would check out…read morethe NEW Sarris Candy Factory Store (not to be confused with the original location store (and Ice Cream Parlor), which is also in Canonsburg). It's a little bit off the beaten path, and thankfully I had my GPS to guide me back to this location, (although it would have sent me to the wrong part of the building (employee factory area) had I not noticed the signs for the store). Look for the big blow-up balloon on the left side of the large factory building to find the correct door. The inside is reminiscent of Willie Wonka's Factory, lots of colors and unique decorations. It's a very Instgrammable spot. They had a nice selection of candies, clothing, and gifts. Some of the candies were on sale, such as the "Assorted Goofs," which are items that didn't fully meet the perfection standards of Sarris. Also on sale, and what I purchased, were an assortment that was marked down from $29.95 to $9.95 (a $20 savings), because they are redesigning the artwork on the packaging, hence the discount. I restrained myself and didn't go crazy buying all kinds of sweets, but I could have gone bananas and purchased all kinds of yummy looking stuff. This place was worth checking out, and I am glad I went. The cashier was so nice and after my purchase, she threw in some free chocolate covered pretzel samples and offered me two free different designs of postcards. They also offer a factory tour for ten dollars which lets you go up on the second level and peer onto the production floor and it looked like you get to see videos also about how they make the chocolates. My husband and I visited this factory store one time. When we entered the store, an employee greeted us and asked if we needed any assistance. Some of the flavors of chocolates were not labeled, so I recommend that the store add more labels. The employee did answer my question about a particular flavor. This store had many display cases and shelves of chocolates in flavors such as chocolate truffle, cherry cordial, caramel, peanut butter, pecan, cashew, butter cream, pretzel, coconut, Oreo, etcetera. I also saw some candies such as gummies, licorice, and taffy. My husband and I picked out five chocolates for a total cost of $33. The employee promptly rang up our purchase, thanked us, and wished us a good day. At home, my husband and I ate our chocolates. Here are our ratings: Chocolate-covered mini pretzels - 3 stars - I thought that these chocolate-covered pretzels tasted *very* buttery. Peanut-butter cup - 4.5 stars - This chocolate was a large size and looked as if it could have been poured more neatly. I did enjoy the flavor of the peanut butter. Bag of bloopers chocolates - 4 stars - This one-pound bag contained an assortment of imperfect chocolates. I felt happy that a cherry cordial was included, and it seemed to contain crystallized sugar. Some other flavors were nut clusters, peanut butter, coconut, pretzel, etcetera, and they tasted good. Cordial strawberry - 5 stars - A cordial strawberry is covered in chocolate and contains much liquid. According to the business's website, a cordial strawberry is made from a cut piece of strawberry that is dipped in liquid fondant and then chocolate layers. I thought that this piece was a large size and that the cordial was a bit messy but very flavorful. Milk-chocolate bar - 4 stars - My husband ate this 3.5-ounce milk-chocolate bar, and he said that it was good.

You look at this huge "strawberry" the size of a golf ball and think this is going to be soooooo good. It can be hard to figure out what you want as you take in all they have to offer here. Homemade fudge, chocolate covered pretzels and Oreo cookies, giant peanut butter cups, chocolate cluster treats, lollipops, caramel apples...and more! Every sweet goodie you could ask for is available here. I won't pretend that this is the cheapest candy store, but considering the quality of the goodies here, the splurge is SO worth it. The homemade fudge in particular is some of the best in the city, and it's hard for me to say no to an M&M topped cup of chocolate. I always visit this little place on my way out of Kennywood. So do a lot of other guests, so the store fills up at the end of the night. For me waiting in line beats carrying sweet chocolate around the park all day, especially in the summer; but if you'd rather skip the worst of the line, you'll want to avoid a last minute visit as you exit Kennywood.
