The Chocolate Moose is a gourmet chocolate and candy shop that opened a couple of decades ago. Its inventory includes hundreds of chocolates and candies that are domestic and imported, sugar and sugar-free, dairy-free, gluten-free, kosher, etcetera. During our recent visit, this store had a wide variety of dark and milk chocolates on shelves and in display cases as well as gummy, sweet, and sour candies on shelves. I found some of my family's favorites such as a chocolate orange, peanut-butter and jelly chocolate, chocolate-covered pretzels, liqueur chocolates, chocolate roses, marzipan, etcetera. The flavors were often unique and very tempting! I think that more price tags could be added to the display cases, but the price tags on the packaged treats seemed to be reasonable, for example, several dollars for one chocolate bar. read more

Do not judge a book by its cover. It doesn't look like much from the outside, and there is no decor inside...other than chocolate everywhere! They have it all. Truffles, gourmet chocolate bars from all over the world, chocolate dipped everything, and so many kinds of candy. A must do for chocolate lovers. read more

I've been stopping by this chocolate store since I was a kid. While they are a little expensive, they have a great selection of chocolate - especially for how tiny their shop is. I love trying new bars and different chocolates. I'm a sucker for cute/interesting package. These chocolates also make a great addition to any gift. Staff are always nice and helpful! COVID safety - all employees were wearing masks (and wearing them correctly!) and masks were required by all guests. Hand sanitizer was also provided at the front of the store. Instead of their usual serve yourself bulk candy section they prepackaged all the candy into three different sized bags. If you need to indulge your sweet tooth definitely give this place a try and support a great local business! read more

Wife and i had just come from lunch and were walking buy the Chocolate Moose and I looked at her said chocolate we gotta go in. The store is huge with all sorts of candy both handmade and not. They have a huge selection of all kinds of great and totally delicious truffles. I ordered about 15 different truffles and everyone was totally delicious. I would definitely go there over and over again, I also would highly recommend this place if you are in need of a sugar candy rush. read more

A delightful candy store with a wide variety of treats. I had a hard time making a decision but went with some choco covered pretzels. They were great, both the dark chocolate and the Kit-Kat coated one. The prices seemed reasonable for quality candy. The best part was that there was an adorable little girl in the store and she was have a grand time looking at all the candies. When I said "She's like a kid in a candy store" she laughed and then plopped down. It was too cute. When I'm back in Squirrel Hill, I'll definitely visit The Moose! read more

I am so impressed with The Chocolate Moose. I wanted to have a special gift delivered for a birthday. I don't live in PA so I had to do everything from afar. After calling a few other chocolate shops in Pittsburgh, I luckily landed on the Chocolate Moose. I couldn't even get anyone to answer at the other places and their voicemail boxes were full. I never noticed the Chocolate Moose in Squirrel Hill my first few months living here. But one day I noticed a "Back in 5 Minutes" sign on the door and realized this was a chocolate store! Excitement! I like that they have free standing candy that you can buy as much or a little as you want. I'm not a huge sweets eater so I walked in and bought $1 worth of chocolate covered caramels, which was about 10-12 of them. I tried to English Toffee, Mint Chocolate, Pumpkin Cheesecake, and Cookies and Cream chocolate covered caramels. The English toffee one was hands down the best. The mint chocolate and pumpkin cheesecake over powered the caramel. I didn't like the cookies and cream. The caramels were very small, and the candy was mostly chocolate. However, a few are a perfect after dinner treat! I also their version of a peach ring, shaped like a peach instead of a ring, and it was delicious! Much gummier and flavorful than the store version. The owner was quiet but polite, and I'm assuming her daughter was there with her. I like family owned and run places so that was a bonus. read more

The Chocolate Moose have been helping us to pull off a big event for our membership which is a nonprofit organization. There are a lot of moving parts and both the owner and her helper have been amazing. I couldn't ask for more. The chocolates are not only beautiful they also taste amazing. The owner helped us stay within our budget and reached out to her specialty artists to make sure we were able to get a combination of regular treats mixed in with hand painted chocolates. We are even going to be able to distribute RBG chocolates. It's nice to brighten someones day by delivering a box of chocolate to begin with. I love the malt balls by weight...the most flavors of this type of candy I have ever seen in one place! The fact that I can customize a bag of whatever types I want makes it even better. Any place that does gourmet and exotic chocolate by customizable bags/weight is definitely a winner in my book. There is a nice selection of chocolate covered goods as well. As for the chocolate bars, there is not much in the way of variety. It carries the "common" gourmet chocolate brands of bars, such as Dolfin, Vosges, and Dagoba (this selection may have changed since I visited). I do appreciate that the store offers pocket-sized versions of these bars as well, since it's always painful to purchase expensive chocolate bars, only for them to fail your expectations. I stopped in for the first time yesterday and it smelled so good! I didn't have a particular thing I really wanted until I saw the pretzels. I am a big fan of a good chocolate pretzel and these were great. The woman who helped me couldn't be any nicer or friendlier, too. The price was also totally fair for what I got! Just went there yesterday with a friend. $14 for 4 truffles. I love chocolate and have almost never in my life turned chocolate away lol that said, they were not good, tasted stale. We didn't even finish any of them. In fairness, I've never tried anything else there. Maybe it was an off day..but not a good first impression.
