Strip District

Grandpa Joe's Candy Shop is a chain candy shop that was locally founded and has since opened in…read moreother states. It offers hundreds of nostalgic and modern candies. For many years, I have shopped at this particular store when I am in the Strip District neighborhood. During my most recent visit, I saw candies such as caramels, gummies, jelly beans, Pez, lollipops, hard candies, freeze-dried candies, powdered candies, chocolate bars, bubblegums, and more--as well as other treats such as snack cakes and sodas. Prices are similar to what other stores charge. Online shopping is also available for shipping on the East Coast. I always enjoy looking at and eating the candies. Overall, Grandpa Joe's is a fun store for both children and adults who have sweet tooths.

Don't even get me started on how many types of Mountain Dew I've tried. While I was happy to find a Rocket Fizz in Pittsburgh, we had those in California too. Grandpa Joe's was new to me, and I dare say their stock was bigger? Candy of all varieties and eras, from M&Ms to pickle candies to Clark bars. Their soda game was on par with Rocket Fizz, though I couldn't find any Jones Nuka-Cola variants (they did have Jones but not what I was looking for). Plus they had a whole loft area dedicated to toys and games. I almost picked up the RuPaul's Drag Race version on the spot. Here's the real kicker: after the nice employee rang me out and put my purchases in a paper bag, I walked out and headed to the bus. When I got to my stop, though, that's when the hole in the bottom of the bag sent my root beer to its death all over 21st St. I really wanted that root beer though, so I walked back figuring they were just going to tell me "tough muffins." The guy though just let me pick up another one, no questions asked! I showed him the bag to prove I wasn't lying, and he discovered that all the bags on the counter had the same issue. He was super friendly to my anxiety-having ass, and definitely sealed the fifth star. I'm all about badass customer service. It makes a good place great and a great place extraordinary. This is a nice little hidden gem if you are not from the area and in the know. I had been…read morepreparing for an event at work and my coworker told me about this place. I was looking for bulk candy and needed some specific types of candy. Before going to the actual location I went to the website beforehand and could browse what they have. Their physical location of this store sits in a small plaza below a car dealership along Route 30. Getting here is kind of easy depending on the direction on 30 you are coming. Eastbound, easy, pull onto the road. Westbound, may god have mercy on your soul, try crossing two lanes of downhill traffic while uphill traffic behind you is just zips by or backs up. When you exit, just don't go that way, go the opposite way as it will take you where you need to be and it is much easier on your stress for the day. I don't want to state the obvious here, but you become a kid in a candy shop when you enter. The front of the store is your basic candy store with items that are singular in nature and runs the gambit. Candies that you forgot about will show their faces. Then you move towards the back of the store and enter the holy grail of bulk candy. It is rather well organized and you can find what you want quite easily. If you cannot find what you are looking for, just ask the employee back here and they know exactly where it is. I was looking for something and it was literally right in front of my face, but I kept overlooking it. I spent a lot of money here, but it was bulk candy and for an event, it was well spent money. Definitely will be my spot to go for bulk candy for work.
