I was in the need of some candy for my valentine. I decided to try somewhere new. I decided on Yetter's Candy. Descent size store with a large sitting counter. I got some dark chocolate covered pretzels and some dark chocolate covered caramels. The pretzels where good and fresh. The staff where friendly and helpful. The only negative for me was that the selection was pretty bad. They hardly had any selection at all. I probably would not go back again.

I live for mom and pop stores like this! The bell rung as we opened the door and I immediately I was taken back to 1950 which coincidentally was the year Yetter's was founded. There's a lunch menu full of sandwiches and salads and then a soda bar menu including floats, milkshakes, and sundaes. Before I continue; they have a cup of coffee for $.80...how cute is this?!?! Anyways, I got the Caramel Nut Sundae was not disappointed by the rich and cream vanilla ice cream, thick caramel, candied nuts, and fluffy whipped cream. They were out of cherries : ( but it was still delicious nonetheless. I'll be back to try more flavors and treats. Oh and maybe snag some chocolate, because after all, that is what they're known for.

I was killing time while waiting for a Yelp event to start in this neighborhood so I thought I would stop in here for some ice cream. Yetter's is a friendly place where I learned they make their own candy. They have a sandwich board as well. Prices are very reasonable for everything including the sandwiches. I did inquire about the ice cream however. They used to make it in house but since Millvale suffered from a major flood years ago they have it brought in from Ashby's in Michigan. I asked if I was allowed to sample and when given consent when with the lady's recommendation to try the amaretto cherry ice cream. It contained real cherries and chocolate chips and was her favorite. I only wanted one scoop in a bowl and was floored by the size of the ice cream! Needless to say it was just as good as she said. Real cherries and real chocolate chips. For around $3.00 you can't go wrong here. I was glancing at some of the candy they made since they had just brought out chocolate covered pretzel pieces. It was tempting but I knew I had enough with that ice cream. In addition to their own candy which either comes in boxed packages or in different shapes, you can get your traditional cheap candy here like you would at the grocery store or a store specializing in kid's candy. I would have liked to have purchased their candy to take home but with my event upcoming, I knew it would melt in the car. Therefore, I held off for now. For a hot day this ice cream was refreshing and I was pleased to have found a nice shop in Millvale. Metered street parking is available for a nominal fee. This is definitely a must return for me to check out their candy and maybe grab a sandwich.

One of the landmarks of Millvale. Been here forever. Awesome chocolate, and even has a lunch menu and deli inside.

We (my steady Betty (hereafter "SB" and I) attended a chocolate truffle-making class here. It was…read moreheld at their Millvale location, which is not a storefront, per se, but where the chocolates are made. This is an odd sort of review, because the only chocolates I've eaten from here were the ones she tutored us to create. And...well...they were magnificent. So rewinding a bit... I was looking for gift idea for SB. A friend at work pointed me to a link to a listicle or PG article about a chocolate making class. I'd never heard of it before. Completely in the weeds. When I went to A519's webpage, it was not intuitively obvious to me where I could go to sign up. BUT...it's listed under "products"...https://shop.a519chocolate.com/products/private-truffle-making-class There...I made a link for you. If you love chocolate, or you love someone who loves chocolate, this class was really fantastic. It broke down a bit like this...(2 hours) 1) Introductions/qualifications/backstory (5 minutes) 2) Presentation about cacao to chocolate...bean to bar. Terminology, taste, geography (10-15 minutes) 3) Tasting...taste various types of "raw materials" used to make chocolate truffles, white chocolate, dulce, milk chocolate, various percentages of dark chocolate up to 85% (20 - 30 minutes) 4) Making chocolates (the remainder) Informative, entertaining, delicious, and satisfying. It's a working kitchen, but doesn't take up a ton of space, so a six person class can be a bit cramped, but not uncomfortably so. There was plenty of space for each couple to follow instructions and hands-on. We first decorated molds using cocoa butter sprinkles (a la Jackson Pollock), then painted with an air brush, then made ganache and tempered chocolate and poured and scraped, cooled and broke molds, each couple taking home 24 BEAUTIFUL truffles. SB likes 'experience gifts', and this one was a great experience for us both. And the truffles WE made were amazing, so I can't imagine how good the ones Amanda (owner/chef) produces would be. Strongly encourage (think: valentine's day gift).

They recently opened a pop up shop in central Lawrenceville which will be open through Feb 2018. When I arrived I met Amanda Wright's husband who is in charge of the shop. Chocolate truffles come in different size boxes and are very expensive. You can still order from Amanda either on-line or call her shop where she produces them if you are unable to come out. Boxes range anywhere from two to a box for $4.00 to about fifteen in a box for $30.00. Although they are grouped by category such as caramels, you are permitted to mix and match to your liking. I decided to opt for a champagne filled truffle and a dark chocolate one. They were box very nicely and I ate them when I got home. Believe me as always they are to die for! These chocolates are to be savored. Wine pairing also helps you enjoy the flavors better. I don't mind have to shelve out a little extra cash when I know something is extra special and believe me I have never been disappointed in any or their high end chocolates. If you are able to get to central Lawrenceville during the holiday season this place is a must if you want to get some of the best candy in the city. Amanda can also custom design a box using sports teams or beautiful art. This makes a great gift for someone who is indeed a chocolate lover.

Kelly's Sweets & Greets still uses the name "St. Moritz Chocolatier" on many of their packages of chocolates. The retail store is located on the second floor of the One Oxford Centre building in downtown Pittsburgh. Currently, its hours are Monday through Friday from the mid-morning to mid-evening. I had hoped to stop by the store on a Friday evening, but I was running late, so I instead placed an order through Kelly's website. On that same day, Kelly's mailed my package via UPS. On the next day, UPS delivered the package to me. The package contained the correct chocolates as well as two mini bags of jellybeans for free. My favorite chocolates were the chocolate-covered raisins (5 stars), which were a very large size and very flavorful. I also really liked the pecan turtles (4.5 stars), chocolate-covered pretzel twists (4.5 stars), and cordial cherries (4.5 stars). I thought that the buckeyes (4 stars) were good but could use a richer peanut butter.
