Unfortunately, when we went in it appeared there was only one person working. So while my family and 2 other strangers stood at the empty register waiting to order, someone was in the back flipping burgers. After almost 10 minutes with no word or extra employee we saw the writing on the wall and left. This was supposed to be a quick top on a roadtrip but we wanted good burgers, sadly we ended up with McDonald's across the street. If staffing is tight this place should get the self-ordering kiosks to mitigate these issues. Menu looked good, and they have the beyond burger to boot if that's your thing and you are actually able to place an order.

Poorly lighted. I suppose if you are involved in some illegal activity or on a clandestine date, this is the place for you.

Tired and hungry for lunch, we pulled off the highway to the truck stop parking lot to find on Yelp a sandwich place to eat at. Fuddruckers (located at the truck stop) popped up and sounded good. It had been years since we went to Fudds, which was one of our staples in Maryland and in Texas. This place was ok. I got the medium size burger with fries and drink combo and my partner got the small cheeseburger combo with onion rings instead of fries. The food came out pretty promptly and each tray came with a decent portion of their respective side (fries/rings). The fries were nicely prepared - not mushy, with a crisp outside and nice potato meat inside. The onion rings were not greasy at all. I liked the breading. Nice and crisp and a good flavor. The burgers were prepared as ordered (medium and medium well). The fixin's bar has lettuce, sliced tomatoes, red onion, white onion, pico (which was good), pickle slices and jalapenos. The vegis all looked and tasted fresh. We enjoyed our meal. One of the two "freestyle" soda machines was broken, but the other had the items we wanted. The counter person, William, was friendly. The only negative comment I have is about the lighting of the place. I know it's a truck stop location, but it is lighted very low and was, in a word, depressing. It's unfortunate, because the food and service were decent, the fixins bar looked fresh and yet we sat there feeling like the owner was ashamed of the place. Kind of sad. I'm deducting one full point out of five for the ambience, which should be easily fixable. (Four points for the food minus one for the ambience.)

4/18/21: We were passing through the area on the way back to Richmond & my family wanted to stop here. We haven't had Fuddruckers in years. We ate inside & ordered 2 kids meals and a large bacon cheddar burger with fries. The food was pretty good. The restaurant was clean & marked off according to social distancing guidelines. My only issue, which I am taking a star away for, is the cookies that came with the kids meals & my soggy bacon. We got 2 sugar cookies & although they looked good, they were HARD AS BRICKS & very stale. I could've easily cracked my tooth on mine. Never again!! I can't say we won't go back. I will just say that they can keep those nasty cookies.

I really wanted to like this place. But walked out sad that a place I loved to go to as a kid has fallen. The hapless employees have been abandoned by management. There were no diet soda options in the machine. The bun wasn't fluffy and was soaked in grease and I had to ask to remake the burger only to get another pathetic sandwich which was cooked well done when I asked medium rare. I asked why this location was so bad, and the employees informed that new management was trying to cut corners. I hope this is an isolated incident and not business as usual for fuddruckers. Please do not go here I felt bad for the employees.

Wow! Who woulda thunk that such a nifty restaurant would be a part of a travel center? The service was excellent. The place clean. Great ambience. And the food -- excellent. We had the Kobe burger - which was amazing. The registry bacon cheese burger was also good. The turkey burger was the least nifty - a little mushy, but flavorful. All sandwiches came with ample FRESH lettuce and tomatoes and onions. And the self-serve drinks had plenty of options. Covid precautions were plentiful and respected. Highly recommend.

First, I checked out the menu that is posted on the wall, and tried to make the right decision. EVERYTHING is homemade. Ok, I decided on the Tuna Salad on a white homemade yeast roll. You can select one side, so I had cucumber, tomato and onion salad. I couldn't pass up on fresh lemonade and a slice of one of the most delicious coconut pie I've ever had. The lady that took my order was soooo sweet and of course knowledgeable of the menu. I didn't feel rushed, just relaxed. Soooo we had the most interesting conversation that concluded her parents knew my mother back in the day. I didn't expect tears of joy at lunch. It was lovely! I didn't get her name, but I'll never forget her until I return with friends and family to experience this "small town" treasure. Ok, the food. The roll was golden brown, soft and screamed HomeMade. It was filled with a white flaky and well seasoned tuna salad, topped with fresh crunchy shredded lettuce. YUM ! The cucumber, grape tomato and onion salad had a lite vinaigrette dressing. Fresh !! There is freshly made strawberry lemonade, lemonade, Iced tea and the Pepsi fountain drink products. Ok, the star of the show. That slice of coconut pie was Perfect. The crust was brown, very flaky and filled with a thick creamy coconut filling. This little cute old town restaurant is next to the railroad track and train station that's across from Randolph Macon College. It's popular to the students and residents of Ashland. If you would like A DELICIOUS Lunch in a warm and cute small town restaurant, come to Homemade's by Suzanne!!!! Thank you

It opened 5 weeks prior to…read moretoday's visit, and the owner says things are going well, although my wife and I were alone in the dining room during our visit. The menu (at least the menu that was available at 3 PM) is limited to burgers and sandwiches ($9-$10), wings, fried or baked chicken dinners ($9 - $9.50) and side dishes.($2 - $3.) Sandwich offerings include Pulled pork, cheese steak, pork chop, fish, and crab cake, each comes with one side. Sides include string beans, coleslaw, fries, potato salad, and mac & cheese. There is a decent bar set up that appears to be geared toward tropical drinks -- lots of colored liquid in bottles. (The chalkboard special drink was a "blue long island.") I noticed some top shelf brands as well, so they are prepared to make people happy. We opted for a pork chop sandwich with mac & cheese and a cheese steak sandwich with fries. My wife and I always have a debate in small places how much of the food is precooked by Cisco or PFG and how much is truly made in a kitchen. I have to say in this case the food seemed to be truly fresh from the kitchen for the most part. The pork chop was tender and well seasoned, deep fried and on white bread. It was too big for my wife to finish. The cheese steak was gooey with melty cheese sauce and well-griddled onions in addition to bite sized thinly cut steak, again very well seasoned. I finished it and could have eaten more, but I was satisfied. The macaroni had a good amount of cheese mixed into the bechamel, seemingly house made. Only the fires were guaranteed frozen, and I have no qualms with that, very few affordable eats cut their own potatoes. This was a very satisfying lunch. Only two quibbles. Service is in styro take out containers, not plates. This was surprising, since the numerous tables bespeak an expectation of dining in. And for whatever reason they only have sweet tea, no unsweet. This is to be expected further south but seems an omission here. These are minor quibbles. Service was fast and friendly. Opening a restaurant on the back end of a pandemic is very brave. I hope the place thrives because the flavors are indeed good.

This is Around the Table. A family owned restaurant where everyone who walks in becomes family. I came in to get food to go after church which is probably their busiest day. The dining room was full of families eating after church or just enjoying a Sunday together. reservations are suggested. I went to the register and was met by one of the owners Ms Kelly with a warm smile. She made suggestions to my daughter and I and quickly got our orders in. They have everything from pork chops to catfish. From Mac and cheese to corn pudding and cabbage. And talk about Homemade desserts! Whew. While we waited for our food and we could watch the football game that was on the tv. We also met the other owner Ms Amie! They have an event space in the space next door and they were hosting a birthday party and catering the entire event. Every staff member I came in contact with had A1 customer service and with a smile. Our food was ready pretty fast and when it came up they went thru our whole bag with us to show our pipping hot order was correct. We barely made it to the car before we had sleeves rolled up and forks in. I highly suggest the Catfish with Cabbage, Yams and Corn Pudding. My daughter had cabbage and Mac and cheese and we shared some pound cake that was perfection. If you need a good home cooked meal and wanna feel the warmth of family I recommend you hurry to Around the table.
