We had a wonderful meal tonight. The crabcake, trout, pork chop and chicken were all delicious. The service was great with a nice touch by the chef bringing the dishes out and speaking to us. The pastry chef is a rock star... the breads and desserts were fabulous! A local gem in Ashland!

We were visiting Ashland for the Light Up the Tracks and decided to stop in for dessert and coffee. We were warmly greeted by a couple of employees and seated right away. It wasn't crowded. We enjoyed the dessert and coffee and really look forward to going back in the spring time and sit on the beautiful front porch. I love watching the trains go by and this has a beautiful vantage point. The menus for dinner and brunch look great. I love that they source some of their foods locally.

Had an amazing dinner. Wine pairing was right on target. All menu items were plated perfectly and flavorful. Save room for dessert.

It was nice and rich with great flavor. Nice dark chocolate flavor mixed with buttery crust. My view on this place has pretty tiny portions too.

Last Friday's lunch decision directed me to this small town delicious spot. I hadn't been there in…read moreyears. First, I checked out the menu that is posted on the wall, and tried to make the right decision. EVERYTHING is homemade. Ok, I decided on the Tuna Salad on a white homemade yeast roll. You can select one side, so I had cucumber, tomato and onion salad. I couldn't pass up on fresh lemonade and a slice of one of the most delicious coconut pie I've ever had. The lady that took my order was soooo sweet and of course knowledgeable of the menu. I didn't feel rushed, just relaxed. Soooo we had the most interesting conversation that concluded her parents knew my mother back in the day. I didn't expect tears of joy at lunch. It was lovely! I didn't get her name, but I'll never forget her until I return with friends and family to experience this "small town" treasure. Ok, the food. The roll was golden brown, soft and screamed HomeMade. It was filled with a white flaky and well seasoned tuna salad, topped with fresh crunchy shredded lettuce. YUM ! The cucumber, grape tomato and onion salad had a lite vinaigrette dressing. Fresh !! There is freshly made strawberry lemonade, lemonade, Iced tea and the Pepsi fountain drink products. Ok, the star of the show. That slice of coconut pie was Perfect. The crust was brown, very flaky and filled with a thick creamy coconut filling. This little cute old town restaurant is next to the railroad track and train station that's across from Randolph Macon College. It's popular to the students and residents of Ashland. If you would like A DELICIOUS Lunch in a warm and cute small town restaurant, come to Homemade's by Suzanne!!!! Thank you

** 7 Year Review Update *…read more Hubby and I visited this location again and guess what? Great service again. They were super busy, but made time for us as soon as possible. Our server (Jessica) was pretty thorough. I see my server mentioned in my previous review was a Jessica too. Unsure if it's the same person, but certainly the same great service. Hubby and I ordered the following. Signature Pancake Plate - Delish! Fluffy! Plentiful. Seagram's Ginger Ale - Welp, it was a Ginger Ale. Strawberry Peach Lemonade - Very tasty! Not too sweet. Great flavor. U.S. Farm Raised Catfish - Deeelish. Fresh! Impossible Sausage - Very good! Almost couldn't tell it was meatless. As always, there were some pretty cool items on clearance in the lobby. I grabbed a few candles. Regularly $30, paid $13 each!! Winning !! If nearby, stop in. You'll be glad you did.

I have been there couples of times giving a try to different menus but honestly they go very loose on salt and oil and butter. Ooow! Salty to the point of not feeling good.

Mallory's is located in a strip mall, and has a large dining area. It opened 5 weeks prior to…read moretoday's visit, and the owner says things are going well, although my wife and I were alone in the dining room during our visit. The menu (at least the menu that was available at 3 PM) is limited to burgers and sandwiches ($9-$10), wings, fried or baked chicken dinners ($9 - $9.50) and side dishes.($2 - $3.) Sandwich offerings include Pulled pork, cheese steak, pork chop, fish, and crab cake, each comes with one side. Sides include string beans, coleslaw, fries, potato salad, and mac & cheese. There is a decent bar set up that appears to be geared toward tropical drinks -- lots of colored liquid in bottles. (The chalkboard special drink was a "blue long island.") I noticed some top shelf brands as well, so they are prepared to make people happy. We opted for a pork chop sandwich with mac & cheese and a cheese steak sandwich with fries. My wife and I always have a debate in small places how much of the food is precooked by Cisco or PFG and how much is truly made in a kitchen. I have to say in this case the food seemed to be truly fresh from the kitchen for the most part. The pork chop was tender and well seasoned, deep fried and on white bread. It was too big for my wife to finish. The cheese steak was gooey with melty cheese sauce and well-griddled onions in addition to bite sized thinly cut steak, again very well seasoned. I finished it and could have eaten more, but I was satisfied. The macaroni had a good amount of cheese mixed into the bechamel, seemingly house made. Only the fires were guaranteed frozen, and I have no qualms with that, very few affordable eats cut their own potatoes. This was a very satisfying lunch. Only two quibbles. Service is in styro take out containers, not plates. This was surprising, since the numerous tables bespeak an expectation of dining in. And for whatever reason they only have sweet tea, no unsweet. This is to be expected further south but seems an omission here. These are minor quibbles. Service was fast and friendly. Opening a restaurant on the back end of a pandemic is very brave. I hope the place thrives because the flavors are indeed good.
