I've been coming to Fruitvale Optometry for 17 years. Having grown up with this doctor, he always checks up with me before the tests and knows what to look out for. Their attention to detail is meticulous. Never had a problem with them until this year. There was a lab error and my prescription was mixed up. The doctor immediately rushed the order on my glasses and all was right. I trust no one else with my eye health! The staff here is professional, well trained, and always looking out for the customer. Trying to be all clever and thrifty, I got an exam here but bought glasses online. The exam was efficient but thorough and I felt very well taken care of. Doctor seemed genuinely interested in my previous optometry history, my current vision needs for work and play, and just giving me a positive experience. Of course, I messed up my online order and received cheap glasses that gave me a perpetual headache. I e-mailed Fruitvale Optometry, was invited in for a free follow-up, and got my prescription right this time. I doubt they can guarantee it, but I went in on a Friday and the glasses were ready Monday. Basically, I got what I needed in spite of my own poor decisions, and was never chided or treated coldly in spite of having obviously taken my business elsewhere first. Fruitvale optometry was the first place I call to make an appointment for my son who needed glasses since he failed his eye exam the person who pick up the phone was very nice and polite and answer all the questions I have asked. Sometimes you can get the same day appointment if they aren't busy or sometimes you can get appointments in couple of days i like the service there and I actually made an appointment for myself next week to go get my eyes check and to get new glasses. They also take medical for age 21 and under but for adults the medical only cover for eye Exam but not for the glasses. read more

Dr. Irani has been my optometrist for about 15 years. He has always given me great advice. His staff are kind and knowledgeable, and deal efficiently with my insurance. The location of the office is great, too! Right at the Fruitvale BART plaza, I can set up my appointment around lunch and get a great meal just a few feet away. I really like the doctor and the staff. We had a lot of fun getting my order figured out. I got four pairs of glasses so it took a while. They had quite a few styles of frames that I really enjoyed (obviously, I ordered four pair). I would've given them five stars but the glasses seemed pretty expensive. I expected to go over to Fruitvale to get a little better deal than going to the mall or something. But that's not the case. Otherwise it was a great experience. read more

One of the greatest optometry in the Bay Area! Something came into my right eye during a weekend windy storm and my mom took me to Kaiser emergency hospital and no one was able to assist me with my trouble since during a weekend no optometry specialist was available all they give me is pain medicine that didn't even work. When I called Fruitvale Optometry clinic Dr. Payam was very helpful to offer me to see me even after work hour and removed something from my right eye and applied some drops to reduce redness and help with scratches that I made in my eye. I've had about - oh, I don't know, 20? - different eye doctors over the years (I've moved a lot). Dr. Nancy Luu is THE BEST. She LISTENS and responds to what you're saying to provide the best possible outcome. In my experience, she is all about the patient. I will give a 4.5 on the location because parking can be a bit of a hassle. However, on balance, I give their hours a 5.5 because they are open late (and from an email I got today they are now open on Sundays???!!!). I had an appointment the other day at 5:45pm! It really couldn't be more convenient. Finally, I'd like to note that everyone in the office is professional, helpful and kind. Smiles all around. I found Fruitvale Optometry through a Yelp search and it would be impossible to find better optometry services, IMO. read more

You wouldn't imagine that an ordinary-looking optometrist store tucked away near Fruitvale Station would rival slicker-appearing places in downtown locations or fancier neighborhoods but to the contrary Fruitvale Optometry has those places beat, hands down. This small shop has a huge heart, the staff are smart, kind and helpful and many (all?) are bilingual, switching easily between English or Spanish depending on the customer. It is a welcoming, bustling location, packed full with a really fantastic selection of frames including many tempting designer options. Dr Irani, the optometrist, has such a charming countenance and gentle manner, he always makes me feel at ease. I recommend this as THE place to take care of your eye needs in the East Bay. read more

This place is fantastic for lots of reasons, and let me tell you why -- at least from my experience. I work in Rockridge in Oakland and was referred to Rockridge Optometry, where I made an appointment. The charge for the eye exam was going to be $235 out-of-pocket, since I don't need regular eye care and hence don't have insurance for eye care. After making the appointment, I went online and started searching the best optometrists in Oakland and saw that Fruitvale Optometry was showing up at the top. And Rockridge Optometry -- while up there -- had a number of negative reviews. So, I phoned Fruitvale Optometry -- who were very friendly and helpful at the start. I found out that the charge for an eye exam was $90. WOW. That's NEARLY ONE THIRD OF THE COST of Rockridge Optometry -- where there were mixed reviews! And people seemed to love Fruitvale Optometry. Given the positive review at Fruitvale, I decided to make an appointment there. From the minute I walked in the door late (because I had some difficulty finding them) they were totally accommodating. The staff was extremely warm and friendly. Omar did my initial tests and rated my old glasses. He was warm and professional, as you would expect in an appointment like this. Dr. Luu did my exam. Again, warm and professional is how I'd describe our interaction. I'd also describe her as very smart and intelligent. I had lots of questions, as someone who hasn't done a lot of eye exams. She was extremely patient and took the time to enlighten me. She also identified for the first time that my left and right eyes were different. My previous glass prescriptions hadn't recognized that. After the exam, Omar spent a lot of time with me recommending different eyeglass frames that would work for me, even though I told him I wasn't sure I was -- and at that point, I wasn't -- ready to order frames. These folks are awesome. My hope is that more people from Oakland will find their way into Fruitvale to discover what I think is an incredible optometry group. read more

The only reason I'm giving them 3 stars is because I've been a customer here before and their service was okay. I had my appointment today SATURDAY. I go to school an hour away from here so I made my appointment in advance with a day I figured would work best. I asked over the phone if there was anything that I needed to do prior to my appointment. The gentleman over the phone told me no and if anything came up he would MAKE SURE to give me a call back. As I check in this morning the girl at the front tells me that my insurance no longer qualifies. WHY DIDNT THEY TELL ME THIS PRIOR TO MY APPOINTMENT. I have been coming to this optometry for several years and the service is great.

The staff was very friendly and professional. For an office to be open on a Sunday and the last working day of the year it was absolutely great. After my exam Dr. Luu was so great. After I got my classes they helped me try a variety of glasses and were super patient with my indecisiveness. I ended up ordering contacts and holding off on glasses especially since my prescription improved. I was feeling extra fancy when I left there. I will be back and these hours are great and allow for more time without having to take off from my regular work hours. read more

Came In today for an eye exam, and from the jump I wasn't greeted friendly, but harshly with a "where's your mask" I explained that I was vaccinated and did not have a mask, I was provided masks and harshly reminded to have a mask the next time I come in. We proceeded With the eye exam fine and picked out a frame and then I was told that my child wasnt due for frames until march 2023, I tried telling the young man that with my plan I'm afforded frames lenses and exam yearly with an extra pair on top of that, he continued to tell me I was wrong. When I got to my vehicle I called up my insurance (Vsp) and they told me that I indeed was covered for the frames but by this time the office had closed, we traveled from Stockton to Oakland for this eye exam and frames a complete waste of my time. I've been coming to this place for over 7yrs and usually have no issues I don't know if the quality of there workers has changed or what but as a customer I was disappointed. We will be getting our frames elsewhere. read more

This time is was the worst service I experienced and will not recommend this place to anyone else. First of all, when I was about to chose the glasses, I felt no interest from the staff since they told me they had to close early and I should visit them another time to chose the glasses. Second, when choosing the glasses, although the lady advised me they could be adjusted later on, no one advised that the glasses had a limit as to how they could be adjusted, so now I'm stuck with oversized glasses for the next two years. They were more interested in selling me the glasses than helping a customer. Third, it took them more than 3 weeks to have them ready. I was about to take my wife there but will no longer go there or recommend this place. read more

I contacted Medi-cal a couple of weeks ago when I realized that my 22 year old son was no longer eligible to go to the optometrist he grew up with. Medi-cal emailed me a list of potential candidates and I remembered that my son was hanging out around Fruitvale when I saw Fruitvale optometry on the list. So I gave them a call and they do take my son's insurance and they also sale lens and frames at a reasonable price. read more
