For $11.50 for one single slice of toast, almond butter, a few slices of bananas, cacao nibs and chocolate drizzle, i at least expected this to be accompanied by the rest of the banana, maybe some other fruits or almonds on the side and two slices of toast (not two half slices). My husband and I stopped over at this fast casual concept to grab a cold drink. The menu is entirely vegan and they use local sourced ingredients. Some of the items are in small refrigerators for grab and go. Others you have to order off the menu. The menu is pretty extensive. I was questioning the oatmeal in a jar I saw in one of the cases and learned that like a parfait it is meant to be eaten cold. These products do address the fact on their labels if you have nut or tree allergies. Cash is not accepted here; only cards. I decided to go with a small "Wellness warrior" smoothie made from cashew milk, acai, strawberries, blueberries, and apple juice. I was told it had antioxidants in it to help you stay healthy. After paying the $12.00 I picked it up and another counter. The vegan chocolate bars looked addictive but decided to hold off for now. As soon as I got my drink we left-please note they have outdoor seating. You are given a plastic (not compostable) straw to drink it in. I drank it as we returned back to the hotel and it was delicious but not overly filling which I didn't want to see happen so late at night. This is a great place to go if you are vegan and looking for plant based products. The items they sell have no preservatives so without refrigeration they are extremely perishable. They don't accept money (cash). I know that whoever reads this prefers to pay with credit and pay apps, but let me state a few reasons why having options as a consumer can be a good thing for the consumer and / or the business: 1) I don't want to have to pay a credit card bill a month after I enjoyed a smoothie (I know I can get all the pay apps and figure out which company uses which pay app or I can use debit, but why? Why do I have to track all of that?) 2) I'd like to be able to send my children into the store with cash to buy a smoothie. The kids learn some simple math, how to budget, how to tip, and then get to keep and save the change. 3) I'd like to see the business retain a better profit margin (businesses have to pay a percentage when a consumer uses a card) 4) Using a card is not a more sanitary thing for me - people say cash is dirty. Well so is using the touch pads at businesses or having the employee run the card. 5) I don't want to be the typical consumer that spends and spends beyond their limits (which is much easier with cards then cash. . . wait a second... Now I know why businesses are going this route, ha ha!) 6) I don't want to be coerced into a 15%, 18%, even 25% tip because someone hit the button on a blender. I'd like to give a cash tip as I see fit, which now a days, I give 30% to businesses that accept cash. 7) If I'm buying for a group of people, I don't want to ask for all their credit cards or have to have them use the different pay apps to settle the bill. 8) Consumers should have options when paying premium prices on a product. When consumers have options, they spend more which equals profits for businesses. Other negatives: $48 for 3 smoothies, wow! Inflation has been taken advantage of here. On the day I visited, about 75% of their menu was out of stock or not being served. This is unfortunate because the menu looked so good. The bathroom was out of order. The berry smoothie tasted horrible! I take responsibility for this one though = it didn't occur to me to look at the ingredients and see that they add cayenne pepper to a fruit smoothie. Positive: This gets more than one star because the employee was super polite when refusing to accept cash. Plus, I'm not trying to hurt anyone's business - I just want my opinion to be heard. Summary: This is my first non 5 star review and I wasn't going to write it because I like to stay positive. I chose to write it because paying nearly 50 bucks for 3 smoothies and being so frustrated that more and more businesses are getting away with not accepting cash is annoying and worth mentioning to other consumers. read more

I came here with my friends and I got the Avocado Toast and the Peaches and Greens Smoothie. The place is in a super cute area and everything on the menu honestly looks so good. The staff were also super nice and friendly! My biggest complaint was that it's pretty pricey, as in a small smoothie is like $12. I came here two times during my short stay here in DC on my quest to locate vegan breakfast. Everything I ate was outstanding and full of natural flavors. I make lots of overnight oats at home for myself so I was very happy to find a restaurant with such a variety of refrigerated oats at your own service. Inside is full of mini fridges with oats, natural juices, and walls full of in-house granola/kale chips. I ordered the Berry lavender oats my first visit and the lavender was so subtle and added the perfect touch to the oats. Fruits were fresh, and presentation was 10/10. My second visit, I ordered the banana nut oats and the Early Riser breakfast wrap. Both also delicious and consistent. The wrap was so fresh! The cashew garlic cream was amazing (I would love a jar of it lol). All oats come with a small side of maple syrup to drizzle on top. The menu is vast and tons of gf options to accommodate everyone. But I ended up paying $25 for an acai bowl and 2 pieces of bread (granted, I did share the avocado toast) which is expensive. I'm not a vegan, and so for me, this has to be a once every couple of months thing. I wish the menu was a bit more affordable or that there were a few cheaper options (maybe a combo or something like that?) but I also understand that healthy food isn't cheap. Fruitive is the rich hipster version of your typical neighborhood health food cafe, but somehow just as inviting. The staff are always friendly and helpful. While nothing on the menu jumps out as unique - smoothies, açaí bowls, wraps and pressed juices galore - the quality is better than you'd get at most places in this category. I appreciate that they are fully plant-based and use fresh, simple ingredients. Their liquid meals are both delicious and filling - top marks for the Coffee Date and Iron Berry. I got a kale salad that had many surprises and it was quite tasty even without being drowned in salad dressing. It's so good I'm going to try and make it at home. I got the 8 oz and according to the menu it was $5.50 but I was charged $6.00. I also found it incredibly spicy, wish there was a disclaimer for wimps like me. I need water badly, my throat was burning. Strawberry Peanut Butter Toast: loved the flax & spelt bread, strawberries were slightly mushy for me and I think they forgot the maple syrup. The peanut butter was ample and the chia seeds added a great texture. Sesame Ginger Tacos: $4.35 plus 10% DC tax, I was thinking eek $4.79 for a meatless taco. Great sesame flavor and I didn't even miss the meat. The buckwheat noodles were hearty and the vegetables were earthy and fresh. We stumbled upon Fruitive at a outdoor market! We tried the Pineapple express juice & Sweet Kale both were Amazing!!! I got the Pineapple Express 2 other days. My favorite part of this juice bar is they use mason jars instead of plastic bottle. They also sell glass straws and pipe cleaners at the front. They give a gracious $1 per jar brought back you cannot loose with this amazing local eatery! The Kale chips are $5 and worth ever cent. They are spicy crunchy flavorful bags of delicious! Fruitive is delicious, a healthy alternative for lunch. With that being said, this place gets ridiculously packed for lunch and because the space is so small, that makes it much worse. I would recommend coming after 1:00 if you don't want to wait in a long line. So far I have only had the smoothie bowls and juices. At around $8-10, these aren't the cheapest but the prices aren't too bad. The smoothie bowls are a little on the smaller side but they're made with high quality ingredients and are topped with a good amount of fruit and granola. My favorite is the PBnoJ, made with peanut butter, acai and bananas. The juices and milks (love the brazil nut milk) are top notch and flavorful, thankfully not watered down. I have not tried any of the wraps or tacos but definitely plan on trying the collard tacos soon (vegan tacos made with a collard "shell". The avocado toasts look good, especially the one with the strawberries and balsamic, that one seems to be pretty popular. $5 does seem quite steep for two little avocado toasts though considering I could make it myself for much less than that. Note: they have stands in most of the Farmers markets in the city. I usually see them at the Thursday market near the White House. read more

Four very solid stars for honest, real, organic, vegan, healthful food in a lovely space with a fresh vibe and attention to detail. One star lost for my crazy hours not aligning with theirs (I wish they were open later, especially on the weekends!), the non-raw (or 75-85% raw?!) menu items (tacos and salads) and the price point making some people (not me) possibly avoid dining here (people do have budgets). After that, well, the oh-my-yes-more-please menu makes me wish for one of just about everything. The liquid meals/ smoothies are delicious. Power up! The price point is steep though- but they are all delicious (anything with raw cacao or berries is a winner!) The juices are fantastic for my veg-vampirism, but again, watch your wallet and don't go crazy if you are on a budget. I love love love the tacos- even if they have legumes/beans and cooked grains- because of their unique cornucopia of ingredients packed in to an outstandingly delicious result. I don't have a favorite, they are all good, but I think the original and Tuscan are just a touch better than the other two. This food makes people heart plant-based and not care that there is 'something missing.' I would eat here once a day if I could- or more often if I can have a liquid meal every time I stop in! The juice! The tacos! The super berry bowls are amazing for the wealth of nutritious ingredients that all go together to taste brilliantly filing and satisfying. In-house gluten free granola is cool and a festive crunch on your palate. If you are more traditional, yay for wraps, avocado toast and sandwiches. Again, my biggest gripe is probably the ability to have raw food items and a clear choice to stay more traditional with their menu. It makes business sense- the raw food community is rather odd, and maybe not often eating out... But just 1 raw taco and/or 1 raw salad would be a nod of acknowledgment to the raw community and better justify the raw/live tag on Yelp. If you go here, you will enjoy what you ordered. No doubt.
