My husband & I have been Whole Food Plant Based (WFPB) for 4 years and this is the 1st and only high-quality restaurant we've found in all that time that actually served organic, whole, fresh, & healthy vegan food the same way we would cook it at home -- just real & whole plants (fruits, veggies, grains, beans, nuts, & seeds) -- YUM! Additionally, we sat outside, had amazing & quick service, and had a great conversation with the owner (Greg) and his family who were visiting from their other FRUITIVE in DC, as well as one of the staff members who is also eating WFPB. We got wraps, smoothies, fruit bowls, and salad and all of it was CREATIVE & DELICIOUS. Even our meat-eating 21-year-old Navy PO2 son said the fajita here was better than a real one. I do not come to Fruitive as often as I should maybe because it is out of the way or maybe because often I still feel hungry after I pay an exuberant price for my meal. As a chef I know the cost and value of food and you cannot put a cost and value on both quality and customer service. I must say that today Fruitive on Laskin delivered both. Not only did they remember the friend that accompanied me but they were pleasant and my bowl was sinfully good and it skated my sweet tooth. I must make a conscious effort to put better quality foods into my body! I ordered a large foreger soup! I think I misspelled that( I apologize) the vegetables were raw and added to a warm broth in a to go container. The broth lacked dimension. Some fresh herbs or some added acidity would have been a pleasant surprise. I did enjoy the vegetables and quinoa. Also the caramelized onions were a plus. The to go container must be revamped. It did not hold the broth for transport and not only leaked thru the container but also thru bag and this was quite disappointing due to the fact that I paid $14.00 for a broth that I couldn't truly enjoy. Fruitive in it's organic bliss, has the most knowledgeable veg lovers representing them who excel at their craft. To some fruits and veggies can be somewhat of a bland chore/necessity but fruitive makes them dance on your taste buds. You will not only leave this eclectic venue sated but feeling like your consumption was productive in such a healthy way! I love the protein power salad and the green acai bowl... I think to truly appreciate this place, you have to be okay with spending $10 on a smoothie, which I did. It tasted fresh and it felt healthier than smoothies you would find at Tropical Smoothie Cafe and Jamba Juice. No added sugars and fillers. All natural sweetness. It just didn't stand out for me. It didn't make me say, "OMG." I ordered the Wellness Warrior, but after that first sip, I wished I ordered a different drink. Preferably one that was a few dollars cheaper. Their price range is about $7-$15, depending on the flavor and size. The drink satisfied and filled me enough, but I should've gone with my gut and got the chocolate covered cherry. The lady that helped me was SUPER nice and went as far as describing the drinks and trying to get a feel of what smoothie I would like the most. I was so indecisive, but she was really patient with me. I'd give Fruitive 5 stars just for their customer service. They get extra points for the interior and packaging of cold pressed juices. Normally not my kind of place BUT was pleasantly surprised. Very pleasantly indeed. Fruitive is not a chain yet the interior fit & finish, menu options and staff all have that polished edge one would expect from a major corporate operation. The staff were very friendly, informative and quite frankly, excited about their products. Menu options are all vegetarian (and I think vegan as well) and split between beverages (juices & smoothies) and salad options. Decor has a relaxing library feel and much of the interior woodwork is recycled/repurposed. I ordered a pineapple ginger juice (very good) and sampled a green energy drink (also quite tasty). I'm not a vegan by any means, but I love this place as a whole. I first discover this small quaint place nearly two years ago in the busy hussle of a shopping center in Hilltop. They're the first "green" restaurant in all of Hampton roads which is a feet on it's on. As you walk in, you are greeted by the entire staff every single time. As you approach the register you are greeted once again with a smile... Every single time. The fruit and veggies are freshly prepped every day, since this establishment's claim to fame is it many juices. Juices to boost your immune system to juices that will help out your digestive system all tasting delicious. The decor itself is something to behold. Wood used by a fallen walnut tree during hurricane Irene is one of the many facts the are posted on the wall. You get a sense of warmness as you take in the experience. I have promised myself time and time again that I need to eat and live a healthier lifestyle. With places like this conceit lot located at the shops of hilltop fruitive makes that possible. This is a great place. I enjoyed stopping here and grabbing some food for a 3 hr trip. Completely satisfying! Grabbed two wraps - Mediterranean wrap and Green Collard wrap. So yummy! I'm happy I got to try their food but sad because it's 3 hrs from home! I read about food being pretty expensive. So, I emailed them and asked for their prices. I received an email as soon as they opened and they gave me the prices for every wrap they have. . That was so helpful! They are not as expensive as people are making them sound. Their food is organic, healthy, and so delicious!! I would come here every other day if I could! I am getting what I'm paying for. You should definitely try this place you will not be disappointed! Also, I overheard one of the guys who worked there ask if they have the college wrap or they would have to make it fresh. Parking in downtown Norfolk comes with a cost, so plan accordingly. I initially had a hard time locating the building and then realized that Fruitive is located adjacent to the Hilton's lobby (near the escalator). Nice vibe and extremely pleasant personnel working here. No pressure but plenty of support if you need a minute to take in their menu. Be patient as all of your items are made to order. After a wee bit of deliberation, I finally decided on the immunity smoothie and the strawberry mango super grain bowl. Now, I'm not a fan of oatmeal but the quinoa, coconut and fresh fruit paired well and actually was very filling to me. I was driving and took a sample of the immunity juice (served smoothie style). I was pleasantly surprised at the kick from the cayenne and the ginger. This was just what I needed on a day where I wasn't feeling 100%, it was zesty and so delicious. They have a few tables if you want to dine in. Military discounts are offered and they are capable of accepting pay by phone options. If interested in juicing, talk to one of the representatives and they'll be happy to create juices for you based on your goals and feedback for ingredients. There are a few grab and go bottles (glass) of juices if you so choose. Tipping is encouraged as the customer service is on point and you'll love your food/drink option. Since I started working next door I've been avoiding this place because I knew it was pricey, but as a sometimes vegan always vegetarian I completely understand why. Unfortunately we don't have many places like this, I wish we did because it would be a lot easier to source ingredients and perhaps lower prices a bit. But as someone who takes my grocery shopping and what I put into my body very seriously, know that you are getting what you pay for here. Yes it's pricey, but it's fresh, organic and legit. If you want fresh, healthy food, this is the place to go. I had the protein power salad, which came with a carrot ginger dressing and was topped with the most delicious croutons. My salad cost nearly $10, but it was quite large and very tasty. They have a variety of salads and also have wraps. The restaurant itself is pretty small inside. Most of the tables seat just two. They also have a few larger tables out front. You order at the front at a register, and they call your name to pick up your food in the back when it's ready. Staff was pretty friendly. I noticed a few reviews complaining about the cost and going so far as to give them one or two stars for that reason... Yes, it's a little on the pricey side, but to me it was worth every penny knowing I was paying for the quality of the food I was putting into my body instead of the name on it. The food is amazing here, and the Chai Latte is better than any coffee shop I've ever been to and actually costs LESS than any drink you can get at Starbucks :-) The thing that topped both of those, though, was the service. The guy working the counter greeted us the second we walked in and was so friendly, I wish i had gotten his name. He asked about what we liked, answered our twenty questions with a genuine smile and even made a point to ask if I was ok with the cayenne that was in something I ordered because it might be a little spicy (it could not have been made more obvious that he truly cares about what he does). I told him I loved spicy and he even suggested I try a side of their jalapeño sauce with my wrap. I did and it was SO good, I'll never get the Tuscan Kale wrap without a side of it again. I've had this place bookmarked for a while so I was excited to buy a smoothie and wrap there! Honestly I've had better for a better price. The prices here are steep and I wouldn't mind paying those prices again if I had been impressed by the smoothie and wrap. The Mediterranean wrap really needs some work. This isn't something new for me either because I love Medditerranean food! It seems like they need a different kind of hummus or maybe a different dressing? It just wasn't that good at all. After the first few bites, I was ready to throw it away but when I pay $10 for a small wrap and I'm hungry, I'm going to just eat the whole thing and suck it up. As far as the smoothie goes, I got the carrot craze and it wasn't anything special. I feel like it's missing an ingredient or two to improve the flavor of it. I've also been drinking all kinds of smoothies for years and buy them whenever I see them on a menu so it's not that I'm picky. A couple of us came here for breakfast, this place has high quality food, it's a bit pricey, but the ingredients are fresh and locally sourced. I don't think I was paying attention when I was ordering, I thought their morning super bowls were oatmeal, but they're smoothies in a bowl with toppings. So, I was not pleased with that, so when ordering, pay close attention to the menu. The bowl I got was really good, basically a berry smoothie with bananas, some oats and nuts on top. My friends got the waffles and really liked them. If you order a drink in a reusable glass, you can return the glass for $1 or keep it and get refills (not sure how much the refills are). This place is environmentally conscious and has a lot of great vegan options. I love finding places like this, I'm not a vegan, but if I can find something delicious without dairy I'm a happy foodie, hehe.
