I've been in a burger mood recently and Yelped that category while in Auburn on Saturday. Frugal's came up with good reviews and at the right price so that's where I went. I entered from the South and actually began going into the wrong way on the drive through lane. Frugals is a drive through only building and has two drive through lanes, each facing South. This speeds up service but is confusing for newbies like me as the "Do Not Enter" sign was only on one side. Maybe they should have one lane going each direction for convenience? The stand alone building is made of shiny aluminum and has that mid 20th century airplane look to it. It is actually pretty and stands out for the area it is in. Reading on their website, they have several other locations in Washington and even in Montana! I ordered the Cheeseburger combo (#3, on the menu, I think) which has fries and a drink. I was tempted by the great looking milkshake flavors offered but stuck with a Coke Zero instead. The bill was $10.40 including tax but before a tip. That really is nice and it fits the restaurant name - Frugal's! The short line moved quickly and my food was ready when I reached the window. The fries were hot and served with the ketchup/mayo fry sauce and were good. The burger was decent with a thin patty, lettuce and a relish type sauce in it (likely chopped pickle?). There were several large napkins included in the bag for messy in car eating people like me. I liked it for what it is: a quick and convenient cheap meal. I still like Dick's burgers and fries better but for the price and to support local, give Frugal's a try. read more

Since I've moved to WA from Cali, it's hard to find a great burger the kind we get from hamburger stands. Haven't found one yet that doesn't cost $20. When I came here I got my moneys worth, they were kind of skimpy on their fries, their shakes aren't all that that people rave about. My bacon cheese burger though hit the spot. My daughter had the mushroom burger she was disappointed she said it was very dry and they only gave her 5 mushrooms. I've driven past Frugal's countless times and there was always a line of cars. Today was the day I stopped to see what the fuss was about. We waited in line and we were able to order our food. Some places the employee can't hear you or you can't hear them. Not the case here. We got their basic burger and some fries. I didn't know what to expect so I was cautious and set the bar low. However, the burger was actually pretty good and the fries had the right amount of salt on them. The employees are friendly and they seem to have a lot of fun. They seemed to have a lot of people working hard in there! I think I'll swing by there again next time I'm craving a burger. read more

In short: A classically-styled retro burger shack with good food, great prices, and no dining room. In long: I think there are a couple of these; this one's just off the main drag in Auburn. They have one side of a parking lot shared with a couple of big warehouse type businesses. No dining room! You can drive through either side of the shack, which is not really a shack in the well-built sense: it's pretty (covered with chrome for that Jetsons look), it's new construction, and clearly designed to be exactly what it is. You can drive through on the right, or on the left if you have a passenger to work with the window. The usual big menu signs with speakers for ordering. Menu's short--burgers, fries, shakes, pop isn't listed but it's there. The 1/4-lb cheeseburger to me was like a Big Mac that tasted especially good. Just one patty, and it didn't have that middle bun, but sesame seeds on top, and lots of that pinkish fry sauce in the flavor. It's been years since I've had a Big Mac, but this seemed reminiscent of it, in a good way. The fries were very similar in size and shape to McDonald's fries, except not cooked quite so toasty well-done. Good flavor, very consistent texture. I was out the door with that stuff and an iced tea for under $10, which is decent pricing these days. You can add a tip to that, which I did. The kids were super nice on the mic and quick at the window. I drove a long way to try this spot on the recommendation of an old HS buddy, and it was worth it. I don't know how often I'll make it back through Auburn but this place will stick in my head if I'm hungry next time I'm in town. read more

Frugals is a nice quick stop if you're in the mood for burgers but want a burger that tastes homemade and not like your typical fast food burger. The restaurant itself looks like one of the many small drive thru coffee shops that are scattered all around Washington which is very convenient because you can order your food from the drive up windows on either side of the small shop. They have typical burger joint food like burgers, shakes, fries, etc. I was disappointed that they didn't have onion rings at this location like they do at the one in Parkland. Friday December 6; 1:30pm I was traveling through the area and stopped here for lunch based on the four-star Yelp review. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger, fries, fry sauce, and a chocolate shake. The fry bag was a little short, the fries were barely warm, obviously they had been sitting around too long; the fry sauce was good. The bacon cheeseburger had; meat patty, cheese, bacon, lettuce, pickles, onions, mustard, ketchup, and mayo. The whole sandwich was barely warm, the cheese was not melting at all, the meat patty appears to have been sitting around before serving. It was like everything I got was left over from the lunch rush. The milkshake was typical of what comes out of a soft serve machine. Overall this was a terrible meal. read more

Do not recommend eating here unless you really want your food handle or to get sick. Witness a worker on her phone with her gloves, and then she proceeded to make burgers and handle the food with her gloves that she was using to text with. Multiple other workers were handling cash and cars and then proceeded to handle food without gloves, let alone washing their hands.. they have numerous health code violations for the same thing.
