A Nashville staple! Honestly, this is one of the best places for breakfast in Nashville. For some reason the brunch scene in Nash is limited, overpriced or simply non-existent. However, you can get a lot of food here for bfast for an affordable price and food is wholesome so you won't be hungry in an hour. Overall, great food and their coffee drinks are delish. Frothy Monkey is a must when in Nashville! They have really nice coffee, I especially enjoy their lattes. The Hummingbird is really unique and does not disappoint. Their food is pretty tasty too. The sandwiches are my favorite because the bread they came on is so good. Even though you'll probably wait in a line to order, the food comes out quickly. The line was out the door when we arrived. Within 15 minutes we had ordered our skinny vanilla lattes and rolls. The yummy cinnamon roll tasted homemade. My granddaughter loved the gluten free blackberry muffin. The lattes were perfect. The crowd was fun. Since the place was packed and it was a lovely day, we took it all to the park which is about 7 blocks away. My husband and I get coffee here several times a week. The staff is warm and friendly, the coffee is excellent and the food is fresh and creative. We were thrilled to see their new evening hours and look forward to checking out their new menu items. We love the atmosphere and the new addition has helped to ease the crowded weekend hours. It's a hip coffee bar, but really so much more. A great hang out for studying, writing, meeting, or doing whatever it is you do. I've had both breakfast (I had the Julia: scrambled eggs, tomato, feta, and fresh basil on a bagel.. yum!) and lunch (something came over me and forced me to order a rueben and it was delish), and the coffee is great, too. All of these make for a great coffeehouse experience, but to top it all off they are VERY into using local ingredients, which takes them from 4 to 5 stars in my book. read more

We stopped in for an iced coffee today - a group of 5 of us. The menu was hard to read as they had a spot light on it and the glare was too bright. We asked the girl behind the counter several questions about their coffees and she was rude and acted like we were inconveniencing her. While the iced coffee was great, we were left with a very negative, unwelcomed feeling toward the place. Personally, I think that great customer service is just as important as a great product, and Frothy Monkey lacked in putting it's best face forward today. This is my favorite coffee shop in Nashville, and that says a lot! In a city with over 40 locally owned coffee shops, Frothy Monkey stands out for their unique atmosphere and stellar coffee. A lot of local shops seem to have a pretentious attitude towards their customers. However, at Frothy Monkey, all of the employees and owners (there are 5 wonderful partners) have a great attitude and genuinely enjoy getting to know the customers and hearing about their day. I'd recommend the White Monkey Mocha and a plain jain on an everything bagel - and be sure to add the local Benton's Bacon! read more

The pasta I got was really good, but it was so busy that we stood for nearly 15 minutes with our drinks before finally snagging a table. I'm sure it was just a busy time so I'll definitely be going back soon. Also, I heard this place was kinda hipster-y but it was really a mixed atmosphere and most seemed to be younger professionals. Pretty neat place. Busy and crowded for a random Monday at 10am. Guess that is due to its popularity. Coffee and baristas are good, had the PMP sandwich, good but the prosciutto was thick sliced so a little hard to bite into. Overall was a nice experience, EXCEPT for the table hogs who sat 2 to a 4 top chatting when people were looking for somewhere to sit and eat....there is a side porch and exterior seating though. read more

There is more than one good coffee shop in Nashville, but Frothy Monkey on 12th S is my favorite. I've been spending a lot of time here lately to read and write, and my only complaint is the lack of seating at peak times. The patio has ample additional seating, but that isn't much good during the Tennessee summers. The drinks are good, and the staff is friendly. I haven't tried much off the food menu, but my limited samplings all have been good. The "Ida," FM's twist on a pimento cheese sandwich, is particularly tasty. On Wednesdays there is a $15 wine tasting happy hour. The $15 gets you three fairly generous pours of pretty good wine. Don't expect the finest of French reds, but it is a good value. read more

They have the essentials: warped tables, cramped space, awkward outlets, overpriced drinks. But they make up for it with a thorough menu and a surprisingly luxurious restroom. The Nathan is a delicious sandwich. The servers are incredibly friendly. I've waited upwards of twenty minutes for a drink, but you can't beat the people watching. It's truly prime real estate. My biggest complaint and the reason I don't go here more is that their internet is SO PAINFULLY SLOW. I mean, ow. Maybe one day I'll post up with a typewriter and clack away in protest. read more

Stopped in for breakfast on a Sunday morning. It was packed, but the wait really wasn't bad! I ordered the California with sprouts, fried eggs, salsa, avocado, and the most delicious sourdough toast I've ever had! We had high expectations for this venue given the previous reviews however we were sorely disappointed. For starters it was $5 for a small cup of fruit (4 strawberries - not kidding). The service was extremely rude and u helpful, customers clearly aren't their first priority. The coffee was bitter AF as my friend described it. Meals were very average, we could make them better at home. Overall, very disappointing. We won't be coming back or recommending. The worst coffee I have ever had.... everyone said this was one of the best places in Nashville, we were so excited to try it as we are serious coffee buffs, traveled all over the world and had a wide variety of coffee and brews, and this is the worst we have ever had hands down, so bitter and lacking, not to mention the food was terrible, the potatoes we got were rock hard, we could hardly eat them, for a bagel, eggs and two orders of potatoes was $45, not worth it at all! read more

Let me start out by saying a week ago to a co-worker I clearly said "I hate coffee." But, I was visiting Nashville & Franklin this week and went to Frothy Monkey more than once. My first stop (Frothy Monkey Franklin): chai latte. was tasty and warm and hit the spot, since I didn't like coffee and all. Got it to go because the place was packed and I had a lot to do. Second stop (12 South): Per barista's recommendation branched out and got a Monkey Mocha. Loved it. Thanked the barista at least 5 times. Busy but still cozy and studied while I was there. third stop (franklin): Saturday morning, was busy, got another Monkey Mocha. Loved it so much I bought one to go on my way out. Needless to say, I love me a Monkey Mocha. Love the atmosphere and the awesome staff. So very kind and helpful. Next time I'm there I want to try some food. read more

Hits such as Beyonce's "Single Ladies" and the front half of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" were written in the downstairs seating area. Dress to impress. I really like this place a lot. It's suprising to me how much so. This place is so far from something I usually like. The breakfast is a little pricey but its very good. I love their whole grain waffles and the jam they have on the side for your toast is awesome. The coffee is good but my favorite thing there is the Vanilla Chai. There is a very nice guy there named Philip and he is master on the machine. I enjoy watching him make a cup of coffee. He is very methodical and seems to really take pride in his work. Plus he makes the best Chai I have had anywhere. Parking isn't the greatest but you can't expect much because of it's location. The interior of the place is simple and very modern styling. The bathrooms are very small but are clean. If you get there after 7:30 the place is packed but they still seem to keep the line moving fast. So all in all, I'm a fan of this place and I highly reccomend It and tell Philip I said hi! read more

My first impression of Frothy Monkey was not very good. For that reason, I avoided it like the plague for quite some years until my friend convinced me to give it another chance. I'm glad I did. The place is spacious and has a great variety of seating ranging from outdoors, quiet study space (i.e. the room to the left), chill chatting space, etc. I sat in the quiet study space where there are benches lining the edge of the room but also one long large bench connecting a series of tables to the left. It's visually cool, except in practice, it creates for awkward situations when you accidentally hit or bump the bench, thereby shifting your neighbor's seat five tables down from you, causing you to then awkwardly chuckle, smile, and apologize. Not like that's ever happened to me before. But, seriously they should consider bolting it to the floor. Anyway, the tables are spacious and provide a great space to study or work. Although, some of the tables seem abnormally high for the height of the seats--this is one of my pet peeves of interior design for those of us who were not born with disproportionately long torsos. Bongo Java has again succeeded in creating a great welcoming atmosphere. Cool vibe. Perfect for catching up with a friend, studying for an exam, getting some work done, or just enjoying a cup of coffee. I've said this before and I'll say it again, I'm not a huge fan of Bongo Java coffee. That being said, though, their lattes are usually pretty good. I wish Frothy Monkey had a bit more of an adventurous drink list for specialty lattes. The ones posted seemed pretty typical, nothing special. (Unless I misread the blackboard which was positioned awkwardly and had insanely small text). Also, the lattes are pretty price-y and because I cannot convince myself to drink Bongo Java drip coffee straight, I always shell out for an espresso drink instead. Anyway, my stint of avoiding Frothy Monkey has officially ended. I don't know why I had so much aversion to it before. But, I would definitely come again to get some work done or hang out with a friend. read more

Crowded but popular. Near Andrew Jackson theatre, did not have to park twice. Good selection of sandwiches and salads and beer and wine, had the stag pastrami with Krout on rye sandwich with a Icelandic coffee porter. Staff busy but responsive was happy.
