We have enjoyed breakfast at the Birmingham Frothy Monkey location for several months. The last two times we visited the service was not as good and last time (July 23rd) every step of the experience was a disaster. I tried sharing this feedback directly with Frothy Monkey first because we honestly want to see the establishment be successful and we loved their food and Gluten Free options previously. However, it's been 3 weeks with no reply from them... Last time we went we were told there was a 15 minute wait, no problem, in about 12 minutes we were seated. After that this is what we encountered: -After being seated our waiter disappeared and we spotted him behind the coffee counter serving people there -After 15 minutes we had to flag down someone to place order -Another 20 minutes before our food came out -Water not filled -Food came before coffee -One coffee order never arrived -One coffee order was hot instead of iced -Had to go up to counter to correct coffee order since no body came to visit our table at all once food was brought out -20 minutes after plates were clean because all food was eaten we still had not been visited by anyone or given the check to pay -Went up to coffee counter to ask our initial waiter if we could pay -Check was wrong and had the missing coffee on it, so we requested it be removed -Waiter told us to "ask Mac" to help us and I asked "Who is Mac" -Waiter shouted at Mac to help us, but Mac disappeared into kitchen and never came to help us -We had to go back up to counter and request check be updated for second time. -Waiter had to go to another staff member to find out how to correct check -Food quality was not great compared to previous visits. Meat (barbacoa and salmon) was overcooked, avocado was not ripe, dishes were underseasoned -Overall it took an hour and half for us to eat breakfast and pay and that was only because we flagged someone down each step of the way -I have worked in the service industry and understand that sometimes it's a bad day or you are understaffed. However, we found it odd that at no point did anybody apologize or come to check on us; especially since we were seeking assistance read more

The restaurant has a lot of charm. The restaurant appears to be a favorite with locals. There was wine available with some great specials and a full service bar. The restaurant was short staffed when we arrived, but if they hadn't told us and apologized for the short wait we had to be seated, we'd have never known. I ordered an omelet and it was spectacular. Idk the name of it but it was cooked to perfection. And the sourdough toast it came with was great! I asked for honey to sweeten my coffee and they had it! I was ecstatic! Friends ordered an eggs over easy breakfast with bacon and she said it was perfect. Another friend had the French toast and was very impressed. Very inconsistent from one visit to the next. It's hard to pay so much money for breakfast when you never know what kind of quality you're going to get. The location in Nashville is so much better and has a much higher standard of quality control. We have had good experiences here, but twice we have had long waits only to find the restaurant is over-seated and doesn't have enough servers to cover everyone so the service and food are really slow. It seems like you could seat only to the capacity you can handle, even if that means we have to wait an hour or more. We might leave but at least we'd have the right expectations. Popped in here after a redeye flight from the west coast. The food was well presented and on the lighter side of what most are serving, which was terrific. I especially enjoyed the coffee selection. The drip blend as well as the single origin pour overs were better than expected and hit the spot. The Andouille Hash had good flavors but lacked that seasoned, crispy potato vibe and the purple potato used was unseasoned and in larger than bite size chunks making it a bit clumsy to eat. I'll forever miss Urban Standard but let me tell ya, frothy monkey is a pretty fabulous replacement I was planning on chilling with at Frothy Monkey with a cup of coffee and my work laptop on a Wednesday morning, what a GOT was a literal weekday solo brunch!! I did not realize Frothy Monkey was a FULL SERVICE restaurant, cafè AND bar serving breakfast lunch and dinner I ordered a veggie omelette - please swipe to the last video to see alllll the tastiness that lived inside my unassuming breakfast it was such a delicious treat! And their HOT SAUCE is apparently made with their very own cold brew and was so delicious! I have been on a hot sauce kick lately and this one checked all my boxes I also loooved their canned cold brew (they also have it on tap)! I've been to the Frothy Monkey in Nashville before and was really excited for this place to open up in downtown Birmingham! What a great spot to hang out with delicious food and drink options. The space is really bright and airy and it's got a really cool vibe. I had the Royale sandwich - their most popular item - and it did not disappoint. Let me preface that I would LOVE to give this place 5 stars. But I simply can't after my experience today. Let me start by giving the pros Pros: - lovely atmosphere. The way everything is set up is extremely welcoming and comfortable. It's a very good spot to study or hang out. - food is immaculate, the chefs really know what they are doing. I had the Huevos Rolandos and it was AMAZING. $12 for a fantastic Sunday brunch Cons: - I hate to say it, but the front of house staff was pretty lackluster. Their attitude was rather apathetic. It seemed like they just didn't care. I will offer some grace. Sundays are busy. And as a person who works in the food industry, I know that busy times can cause us to go full task-mode and put our "customer service smiles" on the back burner. But the experience was the same nonetheless - They got my girlfriend's order right, but they got mine wrong. Had to wait an extra ten minutes for it. This was on top of the 20-25 minutes we had already waited for the food to come out in the first place. - I also ordered 2 pour over coffees. It took nearly 20 minutes for it to come out. And when it finally came, they only brought one instead of two. They charged me for two however, so I had to get this fixed with one of the managers (I assume he was a manager. Also he was extremely accommodating despite the rush, so kudos to him) Again. I would love to give this place 5 stars. But after todays experience, I don't think it rightly deserves it. Definitely a nice place to eat with friends, family, or alone. Service was great, many people coming to refill water and taking plates. Iced lattes are great although I don't recommend the mint iced latte, it's as if you're drinking coffee with gum in your mouth. Overall, it was good and will return for some lattes! read more

I am so glad Frothy Monkey came to Bham AL. We went today after church for breakfast and it was great. The service was incredible and the food equally as good. I had the farm breakfast and my husband had the bacon, egg and cheese bagel. Both great! I am on a diet and they accommodated me with honey to sweeten my latte and gluten free toast. Amazing people and food. Plus soon they are going to be open in the evening for late night coffee and dessert.
