Place was delish for lunch, burger and Huckleberry shake (oh yeah). Next day (Monday night) went back for a quick shake around 815pm. 3-4 Girls were playing with dish soap in the back while 2 were busy running around working the customers that come in right before closing. Frost top left my pallet quaking with flavor, unequivocally busting, in particular, the blue bacon cheesburger. Let me tell ya, that blue cheese has just the right amount of STANK, and that freshly fried bacon will make your cheeks quiver with joy, I tell ya, could not have asked for a more homey experience. read more

Decent food, waitress down right rude. I'm not sure who runs this joint but when you have a bunch of teenage girls working for you, you might want to teach them how to treat customers. First we were asked to move our motorcycle which was fair enough and my husband obliged. Then we were gonna move seats to sit outside and we were told no its too confusing for them and their boss doesn't like it. My husband was gonna leave I said no, kinda wish we would have. Been rolling on the 20 through Ashton since 2003 and the Frosty Mug sign (been around since 1965) always caught my eye. I knew that someday I would stop at this little piece of Americana. I hit up Frostop back in 2015 after a day of fishing on the river. Family owned, it by no means like the other corporate dining spots one sees along the highway. Fast forward to 2017, I would visit again after building up a huge appetite while wetting lines all day in the Snake with a buddy of mine. It was busy for a Saturday night, so it took some time to get things rolling. I was hangry and began to think less of the experience. But once the following order was taken, things started happening. - Large Jalapeno Poppers, large, $5.49 - Large Battered Cheese Sticks, $5.49 - Frostop Burger-cheese, bacon, ham, beef with tots, $8.99 - Bacon Cheeseburger, $8.39 - Large Root Beer Float, $3.99 I went to use the restroom (located outside and in the back) and took my spot amongst the other traveling diners. When I came back to the table, the massive amount of food was on it's way out. I was dumbfounded by how quickly the food was prepared. It was delicious and we ate till our hearts content. After the burger, poppers, cheese sticks....sadly, I could not finish my tots. Before heading up the hill and continuing whatever your adventure might be, if your in need of some solid chow, pay the Frostop a visit. You can eat in your car or dine inside. We looked up the store hours online and the Apple Maps said they were open until 10. We showed up at 8:38 and one of the employees came up to us and very rudely asked how long we have been waiting. We told her we had just driven from Yellowstone to eat there. She said they were closed. We asked about the store hours posted online and she rolled her eyes and walked away. We had crying kids in the car and come a long way to have received such horrible service. We checked online and yelp had their store hours open until 9:00. We have never been to this place so after years of going to Big Judds, we decided to try Frostop. Staff are friendly and the prices are good, but we were very disappointed in the food. The hamburger patties are so thin you can almost see through them! They were very dry and no taste to the meat. The fries and tater tots were good though. We also ordered a huckleberry shake after being told it's a top seller. Berries were sour and the ice cream wasn't sweet at all. If you end up at Frostop, do yourself a favor and just order fries and a chocolate malt. read more

The young people working on 4th of July were friendly and very efficient. When we saw all the cars parked at the drive-in we figured we'd be waiting around a long while. But to our surprise, a young woman immediately attended to us, took our ice cream order and handed us the finished product in no time flat. Impressive! And when the youngest member of our party dropped his cone on the driveway, another young lady popped out the door and offered a fresh cone for the lad. Don't hesitate to stop even if it looks full. Burgers were not good. Halibut and shrimp were meh... the root beer and the floats were great that made up for the not so great food. We've driven by several time throughout the yrs going to and from Yellowstone. Needs a good cleaning on the tables and some better meat but the ice cream and drinks are good. A really nice surprise. The food was good and inexpensive ($8 or $9 fora platter including a drink, about $5 for kids' meals). The burgers were simple but tasty; the kids both had chicken nuggets and fries, and it was more than they could eat. I'll probably never be in the area again, but if I was, I would definitely go back. read more

There are places that try and reproduce and old timey atmosphere and then there are the places that are actually OLD. I don't think that the frost top has changed since 1940. It has a giant root beer float in effigy as a sign and everything comes with tots and fry sauce. The girls who work there could re-define the term "run by locals" as Ashton is truly a wide spot in the road. They are old-fashioned, down home friendly. They will tell you what the weather will be like up ahead, where to go if you need something in the area and what the best frozen waterfalls are to visit... (something you didn't even know you wanted to do!) I stop here twice a year at least - on my way to Montana for christmas and on my way back to LA after Christmas. If you are on your way to Yellowstone its worth a quick stop and if you like authentic Americana, don't hesitate to go out of your way. read more

This place has so much going for it: old 1970's interior decor, drive-up with carhops, and a gigantic revolving root beer float. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end at Frostop. On my first visit, I had a burger for $8.59. When our burgers came out, they were absolutely drenched in "fry sauce". I wasn't aware that everything here (and possibly in Idaho) comes with "fry sauce". Fry sauce looks to be mayo and Thousand Island - think McDonald's secret sauce. It was disgusting and I scraped off all the sauce that I could. My boyfriend thought the sauce was OK, although there was too much. It was difficult to taste anything except that pink, vomitus mess. Our carhop did not provide us with napkins, and I smelled like that sauce for 24 hours despite having washed my hands and face multiple times. The fries were great. We also had tater tots, which was fun. I learned my lesson about "fry sauce", and the next time Frostop's quaint drive-up and rotating root beer sign pulled me in - I was ready. We decided to dine inside this time and walked in to their fabulous little diner and sat on the bar stools right in front of the waitress and the soda machine. My boyfriend ordered a burger, and asked for it "without" the sauce. The waitress was completely stunned - this obviously never happens. I ordered the chicken tender basket with barbecue sauce as my condiment of choice for $7.99. The order arrived, and my basket was only three, small, Cisco product tenders. Dairy Queen does a superior chicken tender basket. The barbecue sauce was plain Cisco brand sauce, and that pink puke "fry sauce" appeared in my basket in a little plastic container. There is no ketchup or mustard in visible sight. We could have requested it, but our waitress's attention wasn't easy to get. Our Cokes came in frosted mugs, which was cool, but when we ran dry the waitress really took her time in offering us a refill. When she gave us our bill, my boyfriend laid a $20 down on the counter. It sat there for at least a solid 15 minutes, right in front of the waitresses, completely ignored. We needed change, but the staff was ignoring us and we were so over Frostop at this point that we just left. This place should be great, and I think that is one of the reasons we found both dining experiences to be so frustrating. We will not return. read more

If you're not from this dirthole town however, you should expect to be treated like a serial killer. I would have asked for some ketchup, but the occasional service was not available. I noticed that the family who was running this place for the last few years had got really fat compared to their pictures on the wall. That's fine and all, but they all seemed very angry. Angry and taking it out on their coworkers and everyone else who was around. The hogzilla queen here was fairly outlandishly abusive to the hot two-tone hair number that was serving my table. It seemed a pattern. Pure dogpack dominance stuff. Since no one came to my table to give me a bill, I walked up to the register. There was more weirdness there. I had to go outside for water and remembered that I didn't leave a tip when I was miles away. So here's my tip: hotskinnyservergirl, leave that town. The hogzilla hates you because you're pretty and her husband looks at you like he doesn't look at her anymore. Leave before you end up sad, angry, and pathetic like her. Go to LA and party. Get on a bus and go somewhere before these people weigh you down and drown you in hamburgers and milkshakes. read more

Ok so maybe I'm a little more than biased since this was the restaurant that my husband and I stopped at on our way to our honeymoon cabin in Island Park...but...I've got to say this food is delicious. I'm sure it's not very good for you, but hey, splurging every now and then is good for you :). The first time we visited frost-top I ordered a salad and my husband got a burger. He loved his burger and the fries *which I helped him finish* were DELICIOUS. This last time we stopped by we shared a chicken strip basket, fries and of course - a frosttop rootbeer. YUM. The chicken was delicious! Most chicken strips look like they were ground at some time and then molded into chicken strip shape *yuck* but THESE chicken strips were REAL CHICKEN. The fries were still AMAZAZIIING! And the rootbeer was delicious. Waist of time and money. 2 hours for a 12 dollar 1/4 pound burger. Worst service/dining experience i can remember. Didnt get greater almost thirty minutes before order were taken. 30 + minutes of waiting just to find out our server had lost our order. Another 20+ minutes and a manager informs us they haven't got to our ticket and she might be able to see if she can get it moved up in front of other tickets. This place was amazing! On our way to Yellowstone, my friend and I spotted this along our drive and just had to stop in. Our waitress was very friendly and gave us a great food recommendation. The combo meals come with tater tots which is awesome and they were delicious. Our burgers were also very, very tasty. I got a soft serve ice cream cone and my friend got a milkshake. Both amazing!
