We want to shave ice and were quite surprised to learn that we needed make it ourselves! Seriously the strangest set up. They give you a bowl and they explain how to shave ice machine works. Never have a made shave ice before I severely disappointed myself. And my friend made his shave ice like shave was soup having had no experience. If they're gonna offer shave ice they should maybe put some elbow grease and do it themselves. I'm from the bay area, and I have had my fair share of yogurt. When I went to Hawaii over the summer, I came across Yogurt Mama, with the letters YO MAMA standing out. Of course my friends and I had to go in! What started as an initial attraction with the name turned out to be one of the finer treats i have ever had. I absolutely loved the mochi, and the yogurt definitely hit the spot. The layout for the store is colorful and welcoming, and the chairs are quality, definitely not just cheap plastic crap. The owner's family was there as well, and the enthusiasm they have for their product is immensely warming. I pray this place stays open so that the next time I visit Hawaii, I can stop by and get another extra large serving :) PS. The owner's son is hella cute ! =) read more

I love this place! My daughter introduced it to us and we have been back many times. The thing I love the most about it is the extras you can put on your ice cream (or dairy-free pineapple whip, which I chose). Their homemade brownie and cookie bites are very tasty. If you go with a large group, pay with one ticket. If you charge over $20, you will get a spin of the wheel to win great prizes. My daughter got lucky and we got a $10 gift card for a future visit! I'm on a serious Yelp tear right now and my Hawaii review shebang wouldn't be complete without quickly touting the awesomeness that was YOgurt MAMA. I'm not a regular yogurt-goer, but in my opinion the yogurt selection here was pretty awesome. Fruity flavors for the fruit-lovers, fatty flavors for us fatties (although it's yogurt, so not exactly truly "fatty", ya know?) Anyway, there's a pretty intense selection of toppings here. I'd recommend that you start with the smaller cup or else you'll leave this place having eaten 200 calories worth of yogurt and 1200 worth of cheesecake bites and Heath bar chunks. My wife looked like she bought a fresh fruit bowl for a small Superbowl party. One last thought - they weigh your bowl at the end to determine your price. I though it was really reasonable, honestly, considering all of the solid foods i put in my originally-healthy snack. I'd suggest you keep the volume of your toppings in mind. Fruit is full of water and therefore heavy. Yah, that's it. All the more reason to eat oreos. You're welcome for that rational circle. Seriously good yogurt, y'all. This was our first time at a now very popular trend, yogurt bars. The girl at the counter gave us some cups to try out the yogurts. I wasn't a huge fan of the flavors I tried, but I did really enjoy the cupcake flavored yogurt. There were about 12? flavors available to choose from. There are also infinite toppings available. I was hoping to try to peanut butter yogurt that many Yelpers talked about, but they didn't have it available the day we went. My husband loved his chocolate yogurt and Reeces toppings! It was a little price at around .45 cents per ounce. Glad we tried it, not sure I will be back. read more

Pros: The selection of frozen yogurt is really good, I really like the pistachio flavor, they also have mango, strawberry, mama's cake batter, cheesecake and more I just can't remember at the moment. Also the selection of toppings is great too, from fruity pebbles to chopped macadamia nuts, also they even have red velvet cake. There is a good amount of seating area. Yogurt Mama is similar to most self-serve froyo places. There was a good split between fruit and non-fruit froyo flavors. There were also a decent array of toppings. The pricing was about average--not as expensive as some places I frequent in Boston, but not dirt cheap, either. I spent a little under $5 for a pretty moderate serving of froyo+toppings. read more

The yogurt is normal, self serve with toppings. So you can't complain if something taste off, you made it! The only thing that makes me rate 2 stars is the employees. Came here twice and the same thing happened with different cashiers. They don't greet you when you walk in, don't offer sample cups, don't say anything to you but your total. Both never told me my change back, nor did I get a "thank you". I know I was in a good mood both nights, so it couldn't have been a vibe I gave off. Really seems like they don't want to be there at all. Aside from that, it was quite slow and the tables weren't wiped. We stopped in twice during our week in Kailua. The shop was clean and cozy, had lots of yummy fro yo options, and friendly staff.

I've tried various yogurt establishments and I must say the one thing I liked about this place is that they leave the sample cups out. Hmm, is this an invitation to help yourself to as many samples as you want? You could get your fill of yogurt and not pay a cent. The blueberry yogurt is pretty good but be careful with those toppings. I added a few blueberries and mochi balls to a half cup of yogurt and the price was almost $5! Eating a good healthy snack doesn't come cheap. My 3 stars are for those sample cups that you can help yourself too.... read more

My niece loves this place but I almost died when I put two of the smaller cups of frozen yogurt and toppings (3/4 full, not overflowing or anything) on the scale and the cashier told me I owed $18.87 ! Last time I had gone (in 2012) it was about $5 per person. In answer to my look of panic she only replied "the fresh fruit makes it really heavy" and I glumly handed over my credit card. Although I pasted a smile on my face for my niece, I totally did not enjoy my yogurt as a result, as I sat there secretly fuming about letting myself get sucked into paying $19 for a pretty crappy dessert for 2. That would buy a lot of Haagen Daz ! Also something in my bowl had that tangy bubbly sour taste of "about to go bad"... I think it was the mandarin orange segments. (My fear at these places is that when they re-fill an item they may just add new pieces into the old container and everything goes bad much quicker as a result. Don't know if thats what happened here but I have known people who have worked at places that did that.... mixing new product into leftovers in a used container causing the new product to spoil that much faster. This was done out of ignorance of youth but I know it does happen.) So happily when I got home and actually looked at my receipt it was only (!) $13.87 for the two yogurts not $18.87. I guess the cashier just read the number wrong on the register. Still, I can think of a lot of desserts I would rather pay $7 per person for, than what I had at Yogurt Mama. I assume it was an honest mistake, but I was glad I paid by credit card.... if I had paid cash which total would she have used to make my change?? This would be one way for an employee to pocket $5 cash and still have her register come out even. I do think it was an honest mistake of reading a 3 as an 8. Anyway. It also pisses me off that after paying $13.87 for two yogurts, they won't give you a free cup of tap water. If you want water you have to buy bottled water for $1.25. This is the only frozen yogurt or ice cream place I've been to that has that policy. When I mentioned to the cashier that she should check the mandarin orange segments, that they didn't taste right, she just said "really?" as if that was impossible and then didn't make a move that I saw to actually taste them herself. Visit: 10/27/09 - Before dinner snack. What a fat thing to do huh. Had the coffee, vanilla and cookie dough. Wanted the cheesecake but the yogurt came out watery. I didn't care for any of these flavors. I thought they were bland or sour. Most of the yogurt came out runny so poor marks for that. I love their toppings. They have a good selection. The quality was good too. Nothing stale. For healthy people, they have a lot of healthy topping choices. Price is a little high. I spent $6 for my snack. That is a combo meal or zippy's special. I would go back. I like the toppings and that is what lures me into these places. read more

I love this place! The set up is pretty similar to other froyo shops, but there's something unbelievably convenient about how they set up their toppings bar(s). They broke it into two, the dry and wet/perishable bars. This is great for helping to eliminating the dreaded melted froyo due to waiting for your toppings, it also gives you less to focus on at one time. Their froyo flavors are nice, and they do a wonderful job of labeling any special diets aligned with any of the flavors! It's also nice they offer bobba drinks! The only down side is they don't have outdoor seating. read more

Update... the owner contacted me to let me know that half their products are made with a yogurt base by YoCream which meets / exceeds the National Yogurt Association's requirements allowing them to display the Live & Active Cultures seal. I like Yogurt Mama! There are several flavors that seem to rotate that cater to most tastes. If you like fruit try Pomegranate or Mango, If you like sweet try Cake batter (Nom!), and if you like plain...try plain! Toppings are nice and also range from mochi, to fruit, to cereal, to candy. In fact I like this place so much that when I visit I get one cup to eat right away and then buy one of their pre-packaged deals to snack on later! Tired of the tourist beach scene and drippy shaved ice with colored syrup? Want a nice quiet beach with blue green waters? Come to Kailua Beach Park and then go to the new Yogurt Mama shop (across from Zippys) and enjoy your self served creation. Plenty of flavors but peach was my favorite of the day...lots of the usual toppings but no one has 7 (SEVEN) flavors of little mochi balls as toppings! Ample indoor seating with big windows and A/C as you stare at the empty shaved ice store across the street and watch people come from Zippy's for their dessert. A favorite spot for students and young families. Give yourself a treat and check out YM next time you drive along the Pali Highway. What's not to love? Serve yourself as many flavors of yogurt and countless toppings and believe it's healthier because its yogurt and not ice cream - I'm in! The yogurt flavors are great, they have the traditional (chocolate, vanilla) and even acai, taro and my favorite, mint. Yo Mama has one of the best selections of toppings. Plenty of fruit, candy and other yummy things like mini mochi, brownie and cheesecake bits. Parking is difficult in that small lot and the seating isn't all that comfortable. I love yogurt Mama, they have a wide variety of flavors and toppings and I've never seen the place messy or out of anything. The fruit is always really fresh, too! Yay! A fro-yo place on the Windward side. =) Yogurt Mama, or Yo Mama, as my mom mistakenly called it, is in an inconvenient area, lots of traffic and junk parking area, but it's worth going to. It's small inside, but it still has all the yummy flavors and toppings. They had a lot of fruity yogurts: Lilikoi, Lychee, Peach, Pomegranate, Pineapple, Blueberry. And the sweeter flavors: Chocolate, Vanilla, Cheesecake. As well as a couple others. And they have a good assortment of toppings. Lots of fresh fruits, and a lot of different mochi varieties. Teeny pieces of melon mochi, or small chunks of chocolate mochi. They had azuki and lychee jelly too. I believe the price is $0.43/ounce. And there was this lady sitting outside when we went that gave us a buy one get the other half-off coupon. Yay! read more

Definitely not Yogurtland. Maybe I went on an 'off' night. Customer service/cashier was lacking in social skills let alone customer service skills. Don't try their bubble teas. They aren't good & they take 15 minutes to make. Girl making it said "It took so long because I had to heat water to make the tea" when she brought it to me. Eek. Then, my bubble tea tasted like it had floral scented Glade air deodorizer or Sunflowers perfume in it. I know it's not their specialty but that's not acceptable. Barf. Trash cans were filled to the brim so I guess people like the place but I won't return. read more

This is probably not my best review only because the nearest yogurt shop is in Kaneohe but I gotta say the yogurt taste is always consistent and the tart is tart (as it should be). Fruit is fresh but the strawberries are always cut too large for my taste. Nice thing though is the shop next door was torn down and turned into a parking lot so now it is easier to find parking (my family and I stopped going because of a lack of parking). The other cool thing about this place are the three TV's above the north wall where they seem to have good children movies or programs on at all hours... making it easy ot keep the children occupied! VERY SMART. The other thing is it is out of the "tourist trap" of downtown where Macy's is so it is a little more peaceful. Go, you'll like the taste. read more

We were in search for a Dole Whip since it is our tradition to have it on our vacation. We were lucky to find this place on Yelp! As we walked in we were greeted by a friendly staff; they offered us sample cups and encouraged to check out their selection which also included organic flavors. Once we made our choice and moved on to toppings we were in for even more of a treat - they had a selection of home baked toppings and let me tell you, they were delicious! Great yogurt and topping selections, friendly staff, family friendly inviting atmosphere, and cleanliness will definitely will make you want to come back! read more

Ah! Another frozen yogurt place. I might be weird, but I don't mind! This place is cute and the staff is always (at least when I'm there) friendly. The place is clean and the yogurt area is clean and not sticky. (I hate sticky!) The prices are comparable to other froyo places, but this place offers something that it's competition a few streets over does not - BUBBLE TEA! They have this HUGE size that will satisfy your need. It's not that expensive either. Overall, a great place to visit. The only reason that I didn't give Yogurt Mama 5 stars is that the parking lot can be a real pain. It's tiny and is shared with the other stores in the building. So, if the lot is full, I will just continue down to the other froyo place down the road. read more

You can always get your standard flavors & awesome fresh fruit OR indulge on a huge selection of toppings- oreos, captain crunch cereal!, mochi, peanut butter cups, walnuts, etc. They also offer seasonal flavors- the pumpkin & eggnog this holiday season had me there twice a week at least! One of the few places in Kailua that stay open past 8pm!! 11pm closing? I'm down with that! I don't get a chance to come here as often as is like but when I do, it's so worth it!! They have so many delicious yogurt flavors( I usually only get plain and top with fresh fruits) but I love the fact that if I wanted to venture out it my comfort zone, they have a plethora of flavors to choose from! Also, they have the buttload of toppings to choose from! Gummies, to cookies, cereal, granola, nuts, candy bars, baked goods and FRESH fruits!! Only bad thing? Parking!! There's like only 7 stalls for 10 stores here!! Ridiculous!! There is street parking around the corner though, guess that's not too bad. read more

I'm a fro-yo lover through and through and Yogurt Mama is delish! I've been to several self-serve frozen yogurt shops and this one is great but not the best. Raspberries are my favorite topping and the three times I've been here there, they haven't had any! No waffle bowls or waffle cone toppings either.
