I was driving up 267 from the southern side of Avon around 11:45 and was like "Holy sweet frozen deliciousness! And it's lunch time!!" I pulled in, parked the car, and prepared to be frost bitten for the first time. I ordered a chili cheese dog and a cookie dough Freeze. The dog was really yummy! It was a sizable tube steak, not those finger-width ones you find at most places. There were NO ONIONS in the chili, a huge plus for me as onions are my main food nemesis (along with lettuce). There was plenty of dough and chocolate chips in the Freeze and even though I ordered "small," it was a pretty good serving of ice cream. Which brings me 'round to this: real, creamy, yummy, vanilla flavored dairy ice cream, NOT your bland run-of-the-mill soft serve. Service was very quick. My total for lunch was $8.04 which I thought "Wow-that's expensive for a hot dog and ice cream" until I saw that the portion sizes were larger than I had anticipated. There are picnic tables with umbrellas at the front of the place OR you can dine on a covered patio with tables and chairs at the back. The drive-thru speaker is cleverly obscured by a large shrub so people aren't gawking at you. I was impressed that when the drive-thru line reached 4 cars, a girl came out the back door with a chocolate soft-serve cone and delivered it to the car at the end of the line, "Here's your chocolate cone, ma'am." She took the lady's payment and hustled inside for change. She was smiling and pleasant the entire time. There are pretty flowers planted all around the property. I'll definitely visit the Frost Bite a few more times this summer! read more

I've lived in the Avon area on toward Indy for many years now. I've seen this place on my jaunts out to Plainfield or Danville, so I decided to give it a go. I am in LOVE with their Frosts (which are Blizzards in DQease). I ordered a medium and it is insanely huge, so I would recommend a small. The price of their food and ice-cream is insanely reasonable. I got a Frost and a cone for around $5.00 -- way cheaper than any other place. The ice-cream they use tastes awesome. It is a random reference, but I am originally from Moline, Illinois -- and this place is the closest thing to a Whitey's Ice Cream I have ever found! Eating at Frostbite makes me feel like I'm back in my hometown. I've never tried the burgers, fries, etc. but they look pretty delicious so I would give it a try if it were lunch-time. This business is an Avon staple. For years, 15 to be exact, we've been patronizing this establishment and have never been disappointed. I've also not yet been able to taste everything on the menu. Either because my favorites sing to me when I approach the building or there is a specialty flavor on the menu for the season. This family run small business is not worthy of a public thank you for their service just because they have great quality ice cream and food but because of community. My very 1st experience was our son's boy scout troop was getting a nice treat on a warm day. My husband was den leader. We, our family of 4, had been there once prior via the drive thru and thoroughly enjoyed our ice cream. Returning with our family, a den of 9 scouts, and a few others, was a no brainer. We'd decided to sit on the rear patio as it had enough seating to accommodate our party of 15-16 people. Some of us stood as the young ones sat and busily discussed what they were going to get. To our great surprised, the owner appeared and greeted the boys with all the warmth of a proud grandpa. He talked to them and told them a story about scouting and his family. We told him we were there to treat the boys for all of their hard work and dedication. The owner was very happy and honored to be the chosen establishment for their gift. He not only assisted with taking the orders, he assisted delivering them to our tables. He engaged us for a bit but the store got a little busy and he had to go back to work. He made those boys feel so grand as if they were royalty. He also gave everyone discount cards for future purchases as an additional reward. He stated he will always look out for his community. He has not only kept that promise over the years but continues to practice as much. Any locals going for a nice cold treat or a fantastic breaded tenderloin sandwich with lovely, hot, crinkle fries are never surprised to see someone they know working there. You see. The owner hires locals, especially teens, to give them a job. Frostbite is the epitome of a local hometown must see place that should be on everyone's list. They have it all: soft serve, hard scooped, homemade ice cream bars, ice cream sammies, corn dogs, tenderloins, etc. Come super hungry or super snacky (especially now) and you won't be dissatisfied. I feel a little bad. My husband and I have probably driven by this place hundreds of times over the last few years and never made an effort to try it. As the weather warmed, we made that effort one weekend. Glad we did, all of the recommendations were right, this place is very good! Big thanks to the random guy who was there when we were who gave us the tip that the "small" frost is bigger than you would expect. He was definitely right. We decided to give those a try even though the nice guy mentioned that pretty much everything was good. Only complaint is mine [but not my husband's] was more melted when I first got it than I would have expected [see pic, I had mint chocolate chip], not a huge deal but it seemed a bit odd that they were different. Almost forgot, tons of your selected mix-ins in these frosts too! It was a little more windy than we would have liked to eat outside so we took ours home but they have an assortment of tables. For starters I just want to say one of the new owners named Mike is the most sexist man I have ever come across. he does not respect woman what so ever. If you work there he expects women to do his dirty work, he doesn't like confrontation, so he'll tell your business to other coworkers. The food they serve you doesn't require them using gloves during the process. so your meat, bread, vegetables have their germs on it. Your container with ice cream could have all kinds of germs in it, cause it fell on the floor, he expects you to put it back without cleaning it and gets mad at you if you throw it away since it was on the floor. he gets very upset with people using the bathroom for 5 minutes then will start banging on the door and we need time to use the bathroom everyone does. Mike always tries to cut people's pays short and not giving them their tip money. he is the owner and should not be taking tip money especially when he leaves at the start of his shift and doesn't come back but decides to take tip money. on the checks he cuts people's hours short so he doesn't have to pay them as much even though they worked for that. Your milkshakes has more water than it has milk, and the prices for just ice cream is WAY too high, he overcharges the price and doesn't give you what you paid for. Mike told his employees numerous times to spit in their food if they make him mad or disrespect him. Mike never washes his hands while preparing and bringing you food. He also smokes cigarettes in his car, then comes back into the place making everything smell like smoke. in other words, I'd avoid this place and just have dairy queen. read more

Love this place. The ice cream is so good. I've been coming here since high school, over 20 yrs. I got the Fudge Brownie Supreme today and I thought it comes with hot fudge syrup on top. But I could be wrong. I haven't ordered it in years, but the picture on the menu says they do and this is what I got today. For almost $5, you would assume there should be hot fudge with it. I agree that Frost Bite is better than Dairy Queen. They have great choices for ice-cream and a nice menu if you want want a hotdog, tenderloin, you name it. Okay so I'm going to be fair here. I gave this eatery 4 stars because the food was delicious. We ordered the big bite burger and the tenderloin. The tenderloin was super huge! The banana shake was good! However This place didn't get the 5th star because of its customer service. First off at the drive thru I had to repeat my order 3 solid times because the young lady said she couldn't hear me even though I spoke louder and louder each time. I ordered a tenderloin sandwich and a banana shake, one big bite meal deal and add mustard, another big bite burger by itself and add mustard. Then she asks me if with the meal deal did I want fries and a drink? Doesn't it include fries and a drink already when it's a "meal deal"? When we got our order we were charged for the tenderloin and 3 burgers instead of just too. They came plain with mustard only. My husband said he would eat the other burger, no big deal. The problem was when I went to go ask the girl at the order window for the vegetables for my burger. the girl called the manager who came up to the window with her hands on her hips and a mad face. She and another girl proceeded to tell me that this is how I placed my order. Of course I explain the situation and said That I was only adding mustard and I was not saying that I ONLY wanted mustard. Obviously it was just a miscommunication but the fact that she approached me the way she did to argue with a customer about vegetables was very rude and very poor customer service. Why was it even a debate? She could have just handed me a little baggie with lettuce tomato and pickles in it and been done. Instead I Had the embarrassing experience of people staring at me that were sitting out in the patio because the ladies were debating with me over veggies. Fun treat! Got twist cones and the Dairy Queen version of a blizzard which was also good. Seating outside in front and back which is nice. Drive thru window as well. Didn't try any food items but they smelled good. I think that their soft serve flavor is also better than Dairy Queen. Prices are about the same as DQ. read more

This review is coming from someone who worked at Frost Bite for 7 years, so I know the ins and outs of the place and the entire menu. With that being said, Avon is lucky to have a place this great. All of the ice cream is fantastic. The combinations that you can make with the shakes, frosts, dishes, and slushes are limitless. Some of my personal favorite ice cream items .. the mocha mudslide, chocolate peanut butter milkshake, and the Reese and cookie dough frost with a splash of cone dip in it. A lot of people don't expect for there to be such good food at an ice cream joint, but seriously, even after working there for so long, I whole heartedly love the food. The BBQ sandwich will forever be my favorite item on the menu, followed by mozzarella sticks and French fries. Service wise, it honestly depends on who is working. It is typically high school students and they can be hit or miss. However, if the owners are around, you can bet you'll have the best service of your life. They are absolutely wonderful people and truly have a great business! During my time working there, there were a lot of complaints about the prices. Yes, I openly admit it's pricy. However, it's at the same level of prices as everywhere else. Everything is expensive nowadays. However, the sizes are larger than DQ so you do get more bang for your buck. read more

The best burger I have had in a VERY long time! And to be honest I'm very picky/weird about burgers. I got it to go and had to hold myself back from eating the whole thing. I'm still surprised this came from a drive through. But you can taste the family heart that goes into it! And they gave my dog a taster of their ice cream. Frost Bite was recently sold and the new owners are changing the food and ice cream! I always ordered a strawberry milkshake. It was good quality thick ice cream, and was full of strawberries. I ordered a strawberry shake today, it was extremely thin, taste like ice milk, and had no strawberries. My wife and kids always order chocolate shakes. They said the shake was thin and runny, and doesn't taste the same. They have also changed their tenderloins, and are using a different vendor for the sandwich buns. Cheese has always been free on your tenderloin, be prepared to pay $0.75 now! The new owners are looking to cut cost, so they can make more money! We will never go back to Frost Bite again! I'd highly recommend you go elsewhere, and hopefully the new owners will change the food and ice cream back to what it was before they bought it, or go out of business! I had ready to review that somebody had posted where they came with their significant other and they brought their puppies. They're puppies got served ice cream as well. That's all I needed to hear for me to try this place out. Not only did we get our own custom ice cream made, we also got ice cream for our little fur babies. The lady behind the counter was such a sweetheart. She even served our puppies their ice cream. This place has some of the creamiest ice cream I've ever tasted. It's delicious and local! This is some of the best ice cream base I have had in Indy, definitely the best in the Avon area. The Frost Bite will definitely take you back to your childhood. An Avon staple-Frost bite. I've had their malts before which alone garner a 5/5 rating. They're the perfect amount of sweet and whopper, hitting every spot appropriate on a summer day. I finally got around to trying the food, which underwhelmed. The burger was probably 1/4 pound of beef topped with minimal condiments in a bland, pillow bun. The French fries followed suit. Being neither salty or crisp, they probably could not be consumed in entirety without a boat of Heinz. Really disappointed with Frost Bite. It used to be GREAT - the frost was the best, hands down, drive the extra 10 minutes out of the way because the other chain ice cream places don't live up to them. However, the last 3 visits have resulted in less than good frosts - most of the time the add ins are only about 1/2 way through the cup. No huge chunks of it draped on top like before. Here is the kicker though - went there tonight - place was packed. Tons of families waiting for orders - lots of kids - little ones excited and waiting for ice cream. They were terribly understaffed, it was taking over 10 minutes to get out the orders. Then two middle aged people walk up, knock on the window, the owner comes over, greets them (obviously knew them) and proceeds to make their orders. They didn't wait in line to order, they didn't wait to get their food and every little kid waiting patiently just looked at them like "how come they get to cut." Then the owner didn't bother to stay upfront and help the obviously overwhelmed workers - he walked out back and had a seat. The ice cream is good quality. However the mix ins are a little skimpy. I ordered the cheesecake blizzard (they called it something else). Besides the large cheesecake portion on top, the ice cream lacked anything else cheesy. A little disappointed, especially for the price paid, but it was good quality ice cream. I suppose you're supposed to ask for extra mix ins? I'm a milkshake (blizzard) fanatic, and most places do put substantial mix ins in the blizzard for you (Dairy Queen, Steak and Shake, even McDonalds). Good stuff! They advertise the best shakes in town and they do not dissappoint. My chocolate ice cream cone featured some pretty intense chocolate flavor. The ice cream was so dark in chocolate color that it almost seemed black in against the night light! The strawberry shake was not too thick, but just thick enough to be sinful.
